If you use common sense Centro is perfectly safe during the day. I'm not saying there isn't danger but I'm saying you can easily avoid the danger by not being stupid (bringing attention to yourself by wearing flashy jewelry, having your Iphone out, or just acting stupid in general like the guys on the benches by the church).

Also centro is a great place to find bargains on many things, whether it be some fake Nike shoes or a new shower head (alot of cheap hotels don't have shower heads) or even wooden spoons for cooking, Centro has it all.

P.S.: I highly recommend the empanadas that come with a small cup of gaseosa for 2,000 pesos. It can be found right south of the San Antonio station also under the metro. They have the hottest freshest best ground beef empanadas and 2 different salsa aji one is spicy and one is sweet. Great place to try empanadas.

I'm planning my first Medellin trip for later this month, and appreciate the excellent information here. I am retired, late 60's, travelling solo, and my Spanish is decent (not fluent but more than enough to talk to a girl, book a date, and tell her what I want). I have pretty extensive experience in the US, have made several trips to Cartagena, and just got back from a tour of Vienna, Prague, and Berlin; to the point that I have plenty of experience in a variety of formats, from street pick-ups to long-term escort dates. In Cartagena I stayed in Bocagrande, and I am comfortable with the quality level of the typical tourist hotels there.

I appreciated the discussion of different personal styles and preferences, and the need to decide what you like and the best approach for you. I have two conflicting desires. I enjoy female company, and I don't want to spend my time eating and spending my day alone in between a couple of hour or half hour sessions every day. I would be very happy meeting a nice girl, spending a few days with her, and being temporarily monogamous. On the other hand, in my recent European tour I found that I like the idea of having a lot of girls who are all immediately available, like the laufhauses and FKKs in Europe.

Open to suggestions, but here is the plan:

Stay south in the Poblado area. I appreciate Nomars777's suggestions of Nakua and Selis, both of which look like they are very comfortable for spending some time with a beautiful woman. Maybe a bit pricier than necessary, but I want to be sure there are no guest issues. I always make sure the reservation is for two, and tell them the second guest will be arriving later. The first guest has always been free.

I feel like I am too old to be booking dates on FB or SA, but I have had good results with mileroticos or other ad sites, using local reviews to ensure the ads are legit. Doncolombia is a good resource for local reviews. I will try to make sure I have half a dozen to a dozen numbers in whatsapp before the trip. I may or may not pre-schedule a date or two.

More likely I will head to Lleras my first night and look for an overnight. I don't mind the hunt and it looks like a fun area to hang out and have a drink with or without company. I understand things start late, so also an option (as noted) to collect whatsapp numbers and schedule something for the next day.

I am interested in "casa" recommendations if I decide to go that way. I have seen Zandaly mentioned, but it isn't convenient to Poblado and it doesn't look attractive from the exterior pics I can find (to be kind). Mansion doesn't look much better, but at least it has a clear sign, and it is closer to Poblado. If there are any other casas with a decent number of chicas where I can plan on a sure thing I would appreciate the help. I am not demanding, but I need a clean room with a decent bed, and a place where I can at least find the sign. I'm not price-shopping; as I said, I like a large selection of readily available ladies.

I will probably do some touring in centro, and may accidentally pick up a chica, but I don't really see the advantage of centro versus Lleras. If there are nearby casas worth visiting, please feel free to name them.

It seems like Medellin is a pretty easy city to have a good time if you show common sense, stay in the areas you know, and don't get shit-faced or obnoxious. Any thoughts or ideas for other entertainment outlets are welcome. When I have firm dates I will post and offer to buy drinks for any locals who want to get together. J1 M.

In all my years of travel to Colombia and El Centro Medellin in particular I've seen only one violent attack. It was by a junky on a person and that person was me, for refusing to give. The junky ran off without me in hot pursuit of course. The lesson learnt was never allow someone on the street to get too close to you.

There is a ton of people walking around and eating and shopping. There are policemen roaming around. If you stuck to the crowded streets and don't wander around on isolated streets, you should be fine. As Gabacho stated, don't act stupid and make yourself a target. El Centro is a good place to visit while you are here.

But when compared to the Asian countries I go to it is much more dangerous. I lised just a few of things I have personally seen. I have spent more time in the Philippines 3 years, Thailand 3 months, Indonesia 5 months. All of my Asian travels I can only remember one thing in which a guy in Cebu Philiipines beat a guy and was kicking his head on a sunny day on a very busy street.

Funny thing about police there in Botero. Seen this countless times. You rarely see the police running when something is happening. They walk slowly giving the criminal time to run away.

Saw a girl fight once near the Botero museum in the afternoon but being a girl fight I did not pay attention. Boy was I wrong. That girl did not scratch or pull hair. She punched the other girl like a guy and messed her up. Police seperated them and let the winner go.

There is a place in the center of the second floor that has donuts and stuff on one side and one that sells coffee slushy drinks and stuff on the other. Slowly walk around the center eatery area. Look for single guys and guys in pairs in their teens up to lower 30's just standing to the sides and front. I get my coffee slushy and sit near the entrance / front and watch them. They will not be in the back. They need to be near the front to get away and to spot police. Every 15 minutes or so they meet up and then separate again. They are looking for people to rob. I watch them and make eye contact so they know that I know what they are doing. There is no reason be there and no reason that two or three buddies are not together. Surprisingly, I have not seen them do anything. But they have approached people asking for money at times. Kinda of feeling them out as a target. If they were begging they would ask lots of people for money but they do not do that.

One night around 9:00 in front of D1 near the bars behind Vera Cruz church I saw a guy with blood all over his shirt and all over the ground. Put it all together it was about the size of a basketball. Not sure how he was still walking around. Someone hit him over the head with a beer bottle.

Many guys do not believe me. Ask some of your girls about some things they have seen or heard about in the last few months. Bet it is an eye opener.

Use Parque Berro as a divider, there will be more danger, the further you go toward north, toward the Prado station. To the south all the way past the San Anotonio station is the largest shopping area. It is safer than the north since there is little drugs and no prostitutes. You can find things that you can't find elsewhere. The small businesses also shop here so many business here are more like wholesaler. Some specialty stores also offer personal shopper that you will get a sale assigned to you while shopping. Basically it offers a more personalized shopping experience.

The lineup is decent, most girls are in the 7 to 8 range. The place is clean and safe, and is a short uber drive from where you will be staying at. Rates are about 400 mil for 1 HR. I can't think of a better option.

It seems 100 USD or 400 mil is the standard opening price for most and some offered 250 directly. There is definitely a dual pricing going on. Just a few examples, one messaged me that we could leave at 12 for 250 when it was about 11, another one texted me right after we met to offer 250 to come to my place at 8 PM the next day before she goes to work in LLeras. We know some girls do that. So if you really want something fresh, get her the next day as the first customer and it maybe even cheaper. LOL. All you have to do is let her know you are not a tourist then some will come down even the same day. Keep in mind that these prices are offered to me without a real negotiation.

There are a couple of little people working. I saw a blonde one the first time a few weeks ago. The next time I saw one more with her so I think they are working.

More girls are trying to speak English but most of them are not conversational. The girls on average are on the older side compared to the age of FB girls that was mentioned here. I wonder why? Many are from Bello. I had a taxi driver who also tried to speak English to me to strike up a conversation.

In some aspects, Lleras is becoming like El Centro.

It appeared the city is trying to make Plaza Botero to be more like Provanza. I saw there are a few girls dressed in more formal dress. Some have price to match as well if you want to take them back to your apartment.

I would not recommend any of you guys to go north of Hotel Nutibara. I've gone up there many times day and night to catch my bus back to my barrio but I have seen locals fall victim to snatch and grabs by Venezuelans, also lots of drug dealers out and about, lots of stolen stuff being sold there too (although I did get a nice suitcase there for 40 mil once). But I wouldn't recommend anyone without Spanish abilities and some previous experience to go north of hotel Nutibara all the way to like hospital station. That area in particular is very sketchy.

How exactly is speaking Spanish going to help? Mostly it happens so quickly your Spanish means nothing. The criminals do not converse with their victims. Look at some of the snatch and grab youtube videos where they walk in with a gun into a resto in the middle of the day. I remember a girl tried to steal a wallet from an old man in front of the church across the street from Mercedes Parque with tons of people around in Cucucta. Luckily she failed. No conversation. Pretty sure he only spoke Spanish. I only see Spanish could help if there is a misunderstanding and the guy wants to fight you and you pay him off or something.

Someone please give me an example of Spanish being the saving grace of being mugged. Somehow you begged in Spanish or gave them a sob story and they walked away. Or better yet gave you money.
