We think differently and that's fine because that's what being human is about but I never allow myself to think I have been scammed whether it is for $1 or $1000. You do not think that you are being scammed at the airport, I do, and never ever buy anything there.
My wingman and I frequent a steakhouse near Provenza. We always order a bottle of wine which is about 30 to 40 USD. This wine is from Argentina and it costs around 10 USD more or less in almost all grocery stores in Medellin. The same wine can be found occasionally on the bottom shelf of some grocery stores in Argentina and it costs less than 2. 5 USD which is literally the cheapest wine.
The corkage is about 80 or 90 mil when we were initially told it was 60. The better steakhouse away from Provenza charges only 50 or 60 mil for corkage. You can get better wine in much better restaurant in Argentina or Brazil for that money.
Your point is fine but you're wrong that it's a scam. A price scam is when you are getting lied to about the value of something. In this case, you are not being scammed because the airport is not telling you that their water is better or worth more than a grocery's water. They aren't telling you that there is no water available outside of the airport or anything like that. They are simply charging more because they have a captive audience / the first point of purchasing for people coming off a flight.
Labeling filtered tap water as pure Fiji spring water is a scam while selling Fiji spring water at twice the price of filtered tap water is not a scam (it might be a scam for a company to produce that water and claim it's better though). It's the same reason buying a $10 hotdog at a baseball game isn't considered a scam, just a rip-off. You're still getting something to eat and it's what you expect, it's just marked up due to audience capture which is annoying.
This is the upside to capitalism; it's a free market. While capitalism does have some disadvantages, it's a gold mine for patient and intelligent people.
It seems like the real controversy is that by deliberately offering sex workers a higher price, you are then setting a new standard for other customers. Which might be true. But this is another aspect of capitalism; where opportunistic individuals (the girls) utilize shifts in the market. I think what is more likely true is that the girls are changing their sales pitch. There weren't many gringos wandering around Medellin, or quite frankly anywhere in Colombia during the 90's, because it was a bloodbath following the death of Escobar, and foreigners were getting kidnapped left and right. Then after 2010 Americans started popping their heads up all over the place. And what do the girls see? The these guys wandering around with the passports baring the red, white, and blue flag are loaded with cash. "Hell, if they have that much money, we can just ask them for more. " Word starts getting passed around on the street, and girls start noticing all these large, pale skinned guys speaking English everywhere. Now there's a shift, and the 18 year old girls who are just getting started learn the tricks of the trade from their 30 year old sisters who have been in business for awhile. "Try to draw the attention of the white guys, they have much more money than Colombians. ".
I'm not convinced that "reckless" gringos who don't follow The Code / Patron's Handbook are 100% responsible for P2 P prices going up. These girls have at least a rudimentary understanding of supply and demand. And even if they are poorly educated, some of them may have a higher IQ when you look at raw intelligence, and simply choose this lifestyle due to lack of legit economic opportunities. So, the girls can always start asking for a higher rate. But in turn, the guys always have the option to say "No thanks", walk away, and approach the competing girl down the street, or go back to their hotel. If large percentage of men consistently decide to reject the higher prices over a long period of time, business will dry up very quickly, and they will lower their rates. I don't see this happening. I don't think most Americans are disciplined enough to pack their bags, hop on a plane for a few hours, arrive in Colombia, then leave "empty handed" having not gotten laid. What, only to spend several hundred dollars on a flight and lodging a couple of months later hoping you might get a better result? No, it would take a coordinated movement amongst a very large group of men, and I don't think that's likely to happen.
I guess the better question is, why deliberately double your sex worker's salary? Are you just feeling generous today and want to leave a big ol' tip? Or are you afraid you won't get service without offering a higher price? If you just offered 10 or 20% more, that's a huge difference compared to offering 80 or 90% more.
Only about 20% of them respond to DMs based on my experience, but it's likely because I use a fake profile.
What do you expect when you use a fake profile. Would you respond to chics that are using fake profiles? Man, some of the things you read on forums. Smh. For Facebook, you need to do things differently. I have over 400 medellin chics on my Facebook page. I started here with chics that peeps world recommend. I then started to request their friends and family. They would respond once they see I was friends with someone they knew. It takes time but you will build up your network that way. I wouldn't even see the hard core chics that these guys posted. I would just befriend them. I prefer the ones that don't have gringo friends. I've met quite a few that have not been with a gringo before and was curious. A few turned out to be a little stalkish, needy and jealous. They told me from the beginning they were not prepagos and didn't have sex for money so I sort of convinced them I was a little serious minded. Well that wasn't a good idea. LOL.
Those of you who aren't trying to learn and speak basic Spanish, these chics will try and play with you. They already think we are stupid for traveling there just to pay for sex when they give it away for free with Colombian dudes. And don't think cause you are paying a lot that they respect you more. It's just the opposite. The more you pay, the dumber they think you are. If you have any Colombian female friends, ask them and see what they say. It's always funny when guys say they pay what they want and they don't care. Chics have said these guys don't know Spanish so it's easy to get more because they don't know how to negotiate because of the language barrier. Smh.

Visit Medellin
I am visiting Medellin on Dec. 5th. I would like to hire someone to give me some tours. Please PM.

I totally confirm what you say. In Plaza Botero all the girls fuck bareback! Girls ask 50 mil for fuck but if you want to fuck her bareback you have to pay 50 mil more + 10 mil for the room.
Everyday I go fuck one lady. Most of the ladies are young but most of them are not so sexy but if you have time to search like me, you always find 2 or 3 sexy ladies 18/25.
Most of them are friends and work together and are from Venezuela.
Just an advice, always ask to see the ID because I've the impression now lot of girls who work there are 16 or 17. Never go with a lady under 18. Be careful. Sometimes it's not easy, that's why I always ask to see the ID.
Well the way she explained it to me was that in Lleras it was hit and miss whether or not she would get a customer. They may be out there all night til 5 am and not get a customer whereas in Botero / Veracruz she would always get several customers per day. So she would go to Botero first and get at least enough money to cover her daily expenses and money for a taxi incase she needs to get home after the metro stops running then she would head to Lleras in hopes of snagging a gringo customer but she wouldn't always get one. And it was $100 usd back then Lleras was 200 mil and Botero was 40 mil. When with me I was kinda like a medium in between the two I would giver her 100 mil but always demand bareback and I would stay close by in Centro usually off of Oriental by the exito san Antonio so I was like her guaranteed quick cash option but she always knew with me we never used condoms if she wanted that 100 mil. I think only one time I used a condom with her and that was way back in 2018 in Bogota in Santa Fe and I gave her 30 mil plus 6 k for the room so it was a total of 36 mil COP with a condom in a short time room in Santa Fe. The nice thing about Bogota is they don't have these parallel street venues with different pricing all the street venues in Bogota are geared toward the locals and all roughly the same price. You got Santa Fe, la capuchina, 7 de agosto, and primero de mayo and they all roughly charge the same 40 mil or 50 mil plus room nowadays and la capuchina is even cheaper sometimes as low as 20 mil plus room but those ladies are super old like grannies LOL.
I personally don't understand why anyone who comes here for a few days at a time and who stays in Poblado would spend the time it takes to navigate Centro when you can walk a few steps to Lleras and point and click your way to a date. A few hundred dollars over a week or two is a drop in the bucket when you think about the up to $2,000 it cost for airline, hotel, and food over a short trip.
I am a Centro Rat and only been to Parque Lleras twice and left early like 10:30 pm. I saw a few Centro girls both times. Just MY GUESTIMATE of the percentage of the Centro girls would be less than 10%.
Verifying Cedulas

To be extra safe use a hotel that will verify the cedula by checking it against the information registered to that particular cedula number (they have a website for looking it up).
Hotel Botero Real is a good hotel that will verify IDs and make sure that your lady is of legal age before they rent you the room.
And if the girl refuses to go to that hotel and tries to take you to a different hotel like on the backside behind the church, you should view that as a red flag.
Your explanation is good and well reasoned but this is why I think the airport is a scam: lets say you go to the supermarket and the bottle of water is $1 then you go to a mall and that same bottle is $2, it is understandable because the mall salesperson has to pay rent. The airport salesperson probably has the same rent to pay but charges $5. Why does he do this? Because he knows that you cannot leave the airport to go buy the water somewhere else. That's a scam in my book. I always go the airport well fed and well hydrated and window shop only. The exception would be duty free items that are reasonably priced and that I need, of course.
Let's just all agree that all airports are scams then. No matter where they are located LOL. Paying friggin $4 for a small a $$ bag of chips, wtf. Lets dump movie theaters in there too.

Enables you to make more trips. Plus even if we did pay $2,000 for those three things, we'd still want to pay reasonable prices for the fourth thing, the fifth thing, etc. That's not sound logic. "I don't understand why people who've already spent a lot of money don't want to spend more money. " That would be somewhat like saying why bother to use public transportation since you already paid a lot for a flight. Hmm maybe you think that way.
However, it's true that a real Centro rat would never stay in Poblado.
I agree with Turgid, the airport is in fact a scam and guys who say that it isn't a scam and try to explain it using supply and demand, so not understand economics.
But he mentions that he likes to go to duty free. That is actually where the scam is. At the liquor store near my house in the States, Dominican liquor is cheaper than it is at the duty free in the Dominican Republic. Most people assume things in those shops are a bargain, but if they were to go to a normal supermarket or shop outside of the airport, then they will realize how much things are marked up in duty free.

For me opting for the casas is a no brainer. It is just as cheap, safer and the chicas are hotter. If there were no casas I would go for Lleras. There is a much better choice of girls there.

When the front desk looked at it closely the ID number on the bottom it said 0123456789. I quickly ushered her out the door and had her leave.
