Mai Pen Rai....
One of the most common statements in Thai. Literally means It's nothing. but the loose translations can be no worries, take it easy, it's cool, never mind, oh well can't do anything about it etc....
"Go with the flow and smile"
But yes you are correct, only question is which is the more potential for danger, first or second. I have had better luck with the second. I have Thai's working for me, I apply the same.

I like mai pen rai.... I hate up to you.... I use mai pen rai all the time... and it's fine if a girl others say it to me. To me that is not so dangerous.
I never let a girl tell me "up to you..." You can never win that situation. But I'll use that saying to girls many times.
But then again I'm just a male bastard wh@re ****

Sorry it goes like this ....
Girl: Can I spank your Bottom
Tansak: Only after I tie you up and spank your bottom
Girl: Can I thai box you?
Tansak: After I take you and your sister at the same time then you can do whatever the hell you want to me. (true story)
UM... and the girl did end up throwing a few elbows and knees after I finished with her friend (different time) and told them I was going to take a different girl on holiday.... But I will surely see them all, girl, sister, and friend, in August.
Ah... the life of a bastard wh@re.... If my boss only knew what I really do.

for those lamenting the declining nana parking lot scene, it will only get worse as the struggling nana disco will close at the end of this month. they're offering free drinks and no cover charge on the final night so it should be a wild one.
-----------------------------------------------------------
they say that all good things come to an end. and so, following a period of 13 years, angels disco situated in nana hotel, is hosting a fond farewell bash. this is the end of an era in bangkok’s nightlife history. for the sake of nostalgia, i have labelled it, “nana disco grand finale party.” there will certainly be some surprises on the night. the owner of nana disco namely rick, is retiring from the nightclub business. rick started out in nana plaza, when he took over the ownership of hollywood stars (now angelwitch go-go bar) in the early 1990’s. after rick opened angels, or nana disco as it is more commonly known, it rapidly became an icon and therefore, popular from the very start. business has dropped off as other discos and nightclubs have emerged in recent years. also, the thai authorities with their increasingly idiosyncratic ways have not helped matters at all. hey guys, think ‘tea time’ and you know what i’m saying here!
i have had some terrific times in nana disco, in which my frequent visits have spanned over a decade. let’s just say, i have met some ‘very interesting’ thai girls during that period. personally speaking, i recall many entertaining nights and fond memories will remain forever. i would often finish a shift in nana plaza and hit nana disco on an almost nightly basis. in the late 1990’s and early part of the millennium, the late night hot spots were nana disco and thermae coffee shop. these venues were brimming with notorious ‘ladies of the night,’ but i was prepared to take my chances. i can only describe this exciting era as ‘the good old bad days.’ long gone are those times, when it was 500 baht to ‘love you short time’ and 1,000 baht to ‘love you long time.’ nowadays, some bangkok bar girls and freelancers are coming up with some scary figures. anyway guys, where were we? oh, about the party…
on friday, july 31st, the grand finale party, will offer free entrance and free drinks to everybody. in case that completely stunned you i repeat; all the drinks are free until all the booze has gone. similar to a bar girl from [CodeWord900], the motto is ‘drink ‘em dry!’ doors open at 10:00pm.

Run Mann,
Like yourself, I have been going in and out of Nana Hotel for nearly 10 years and Angel was the attraction I stayed there. It was packed and so convienent when you pick one up and if it didn't turn out you could just go back down the elevator and right back in and start all over again. In the good years I got in for free just by showing my room key.. so many of the girls that worked at the NEP, came to Freelance at the Disco after they didn't get pick at their own venues.
The owner of the bar the guy name Rick, is he a Farang, if so, I'm just surprise with his experience and prior venture at the other bars that he couldn't turn it around and trying to remodel the place when it was already dead and then reopeing and continue to charge a high fee at the door makes me wonder? since personally I think the high door charge was what contribute to the decline.
It also seem at the same time the disco decline, Spice club on Soi 11 was getting popular. Have you been there and if so what are they doing that Nana wasn't?
Did you try to change the subject with your report! The guys were having a good time! Well! up to you!

About Nana Disco, it's a pitty that this place will close, but to be honest, I were the last time in on my last Holiday in October and the place, even when they lowered the entrance fee to 200 Baht, if I remember right, where empty. The closed at 2 am and that was just to early since the most gogo close at 2 am as well.
In earlier times I were often in Nana Disco, though the entrance fee of 500 Baht was quite high, imho. Nevertheless the club rocked, purly mongers and freelancer, not so much "happy" Thai-Farang couples. Spice, Spicy, Boss, Bossy, etc are besides the monger vs freelancer crowd, a place were farangs bring there rented thai girls to show up and spent the night.
But, beside Nana Disco, there were other clubs which had good times and went down the river. For example Kings Lounge, upstairs in a small soi between Patpong 3 and 2. The Club still excists as far I know, but last time I were there was October 2008 and the place were empty at 2 am.

LBM,
I think there are several factors that led to the decline of Angel's Disco; it wasn't only the entrance fee problem. As was pointed out in the story, the cops, competition and yes, mis-management all contributed in some ways to its demise. Never been to Spice Club so I can't comment. There's a relatively new club/disco on Soi 7/1 that seems to be doing quite well, can't remember the name, maybe Rick can visit them but he seems resigned to the fact that Angel's is history. Despite having a dubious reputation, Nana is still a popular and prime time attraction for many, would be ashamed to turn that good retail space into an oversize empty closet.
As for changing the subject, not my intent, as you very well know not even Jackson can accomplish that feat, right? I just thought this bit of news may have been of interest to some. The boys can resume their "good time" chit-chat anytime. ;)

Since when is the NPL scene declining? It seems that Angels has been dead
and waiting burial for at least a year or two now, so any impact its closure
will have on the NPL should be minimal.
Also i wonder if there is any such correlation between the two, or if it might
work out the opposite of that. For example, if P4P ladies who frequented
the disco decided to go elsewhere because it has been so lacking in
customers, then they might think about going out to the NPL. Following up
on that idea would make the NPL more busy. My guess is, though, if they
liked the disco scene they would probably go to another disco rather than
be an SW. And that's where they might find former Angel's customers.
If NEP ever shuts down, as some have suggested it may do w/i the next
few years, that may have an effect on the NPL. Though there would still
be many bars, MPs, and hotels nearby with P4P customers, besides the
historical reputation of the NPL, to draw the ladies there.
An increase or decrease in LE harassment of SW ladies in the area is
another factor and one which seems to concern many of these TGs. If
become too scared to work there any more then they will go elsewhere.
Likewise if there are not enough customers due to it being low season,
an economic downturn, with political instability and scams on the rise
in BKK, the law of supply and demand might dictate that women look
for another line of employment.

Are you a regular in Thailand or just on this board? If you saw the scene on a regular basis even three or four years ago and compare it to what it is now or what it was last night, you would not be asking this question.

it's a pretty severe restriction of this forum that it's in this rolling single-thread format -- so the subject is always changing and you can't really get upset if someone does taht cuz its here for pepole to come and talk about what they want, so... otherwise you're asking people to stop talking, not exactly the spirit of forums. what would be nice would be if this forum would have a bangkok nightlife section where users could create threads with topic titles -- then we'd be talking now in a thread called "angels disco closing" and there'd be another one about the other topic, and then it'd be fair to ask people not to change the topic cuz they could just go and post a new thread. oh well.
anyway, angels is closing in a few days. there was a bit of info about it at this site (it's not a forum, so this should be ok to link) http://www.davetheravebangkok.com/ .
the door fee was probably the main factor, along with all the working girls abandoning the place, from what i've heard. i've seen mentions of how management treated the girls badly, but not sure how. anyway, the article on that site seems to hint that tea money played a role in the entrance fee rising, so if that's the case it would mean the cops' greed was ultimately responsible. another theory might be that they did it deliberately to drive him out of business. who knows. all i know is that i went there in 2007 and saw a sign for 400 baht, this around midnight, peered past the ticket table to see a totally empty club. hm. just 400 baht to go into an empty club and make like billy idol.* it had reached the point of absurdity.
* "dancing with myself" for those who missed the 80s
ps oops i just noticed that the 'story' lbm referred to was from the same site i linked to

I guess it depends on what your definition of 'decline' is. I'll say that when I get to town, the one bar in town I make sure to visit the first night is Rainbow 4. Last time I was there, it was better stocked than any bar I remember seeing back in the glory days. I haven't been back this year but what I've seen in reports is that that hasn't changed. Other than that, sure there's fewer cuties in the rest of the bars than in the past (perhaps), and prices are up (as they are everywhere) and the attitude more mercenary (ditto). Atittudes seem to overall be a bit better in Soi Cowboy, tho again, not in all bars. Nana still has something like 1000 girls (a number taken directly from out of my ass, feel free to correct that if you have a better estimate), and the % of those that are stunning is probably around the same if not better than the 1000 girls (see above for source) at Soi Cowboy. Me, I like the luxury of being able to go to ONE bar and see a great lineup altogether there in one spot, as opposed to (as at Cowboy) having to hit a number of them to finally find a good candidate.
And I'm sure there's plenty here who have reasons just as good why they prefer Soi Cowboy or whatever other venue they like.

This is not a discussion about Nana Plaza bars but about Nana (Hotel) "Parking Lot" scene.

I gotta say that I had very poor experiences at NPL for about the last two years and never really stop there. I do not like the noise of Spice / Spicy / CM2 and others. I'm just not a bar / disco kind of guy. Thermane, little luck there. But overall the FL scene is kind of on a down ward trend FOR ME which is a shame as I really like one FL I caught. YMMV.
I'm not that old but the closing is making me feel old now... thanks guys... you've depressed me... guess I'll have to get a BJ to put the smile back on my face.
