Saw that this thread is closed but I did want to point it out as a hidden gem. You never can predict, so allow 2 hours for crossing back into SD. It may not take that long, but it may.
Loads and loads of good eating spots in Tijuana. None of them in the zona. Actually, the little restaurants that service the bar trade are fairly good, although the food is a bit pedestrian. The joint in the alley next to Hong Kong is reliable. Al Capone's, next to Chicago Club is also decent. Too early in the afternoon and there will be few taco carts. If you can spare a few extra minutes, walk to the corner of 5th (I think) and Negrete. Best fish tacos in Tijuana. Hotel Caesar also has very good food and it's close.
Yes, you will need a passport. There is usually a hellacious long line for those without one. Avoid the hassle and bring it.
Like Chris Long, I also got sick also during my trip in Tijuana. I ate from two taco carts. One was the fish tacos and the other was beef? I think where the guy slices meat from the top down of this big slab of meat.
Guess I should have known better. As for the trip itself, it was definitely a surreal experience. I think it's great for every guy to try it at least once but not sure how often I would go back. The girls are amazing looking (much better than I expected) but the whole atmosphere turned me off.

I know I brought this up before and I know the easy answer is that it depends, but I'm still a bit confused (yet grateful) as to how fast and easy I crossed back every single of my 3 nights from Tijuana. I mean absolutely NO line at all. I got out the cab and made the short walk and was immediately with an agent crossing back. Now each of the 3 nights (Thurs-Sat) I made it back to the border crossing at around midnight. Saturday a bit earlier like 11 PM.
My question is, was I really lucky? Or is this to be expected at these times? The reason I ask is because I have no problems whatsoever during my next visit to cross back at this time in order to avoid long lines.
On another note, As I mentioned I want to go back in early November. Initially I wanted to go in December but from reading the forum it seems that by then things might not be as good due to the holidays and many of the chicas heading home. What would you guys say from your experience is a cut off date? I wish I could go early next year but I need to use my vacation time this year. So that is why I am thinking early November.
Lastly, I was wondering on any recommendations for a motel / hotel in San Ysidro. While I might stay a night at Cascadas I don't want to cross over with all my belongings and money. So I might just get a cheap room to keep my things while I am over. On that same note are San Ysidro motels safe to leave things? You would think so. But you never know.

You are guaranteed to be stuck, if you decide to cross back around 8am, or pretty much, anytime when the sun is getting up and hovering ahead.
Personally, I think getting a hotel in san ysidro does not guarantee better safety, maybe it does give you a peace of mind, but I would rather just get a room at hotel ticuan or caesars or hacienda santiago and just leave it there, had good experiences all with these guys, besides, the constant coming and going, will put a dent on the flow of the entire adventure.
But of course, you are not here all the time, so that is a big difference.

I guess I'm just a little leary about heading into Tijuana with luggage and a pocketful of cash. Last time I felt safe but then again I was with a friend. I'm not too worried though. One thing I keep in mind however is "downtime" When I'm not on the prowl apart from having tacos, I'm not so sure there is anything else I'd like to do in Tijuana. I figure I can crash in San Ysidro and at least watch Sports Center eating McDonalds and reserve funds. Because we all know in Tijuana money flows like water!

First off, is there a place on the american side that exchanges for close to the xe. Com rate? If not, where is the best place to go in Tijuana that gives close to xe. Com. I understand there is a new entrance which will probably have alot of cambios but I'm assuming they will screw you on the rate. I don't want to use the atm because of all the fees on both ends.

By 4am, the line is already getting pretty long for people heading to work. I've been caught in a 1. 5-2hr line on more than 1 occasion at 4am, even on a Saturday morning.

Not taking too much but I think anything I do I'd want locked up. Good to hear those hotels have safes. I think those might be a better bet than Cascadas. I know the pricier rooms at Cascadas have safes too. I'll look into Pueblo Amigo. Haven't heard of that one. How close is it to the zona?
