I'm returning to Sosua for the third time Nov 27-Dec 4. The New Garden has a king bed room available for $55 (**** cash rate) including tax and breakfast. I'm assuming it is in the older part. D'Piero has a 1 bedroom (king?)for $50 or a large room (king?)for $40 available including tax, breakfast and airport transfers. Some of D'Piero's safes are keyed some electronic. I believe all rooms at the NG have electronic safes, a big plus in my book. I enjoyed my previous stays at the NG but D'Piero's rate is very attractive and it looks nice on their website.
Any recommendations or suggestions? Pros/cons especially from guys who have stayed at both establishments would be appreciated.
Headed to Sousa for the first time, 5 nights at the NG, starting on November 19th. I have been reading the reports from this board, as well as sending PMs to various members. I can only say that I appreciate all the information that I have gathered thus far, from many of the ISG members on the forum and through PMs. I also gathered information from the Teflon Monger, and I am thankful of that as well; nice blog and Web site.
Having said that, I'm a true believer that one cannot have enough information and could always use more. So if anyone is there the same time frame, I would enjoy buying a couple of rounds and picking your brains for more insight on what Sousa has to offer. I love the beach laid-back lifestyle, and that explains why I like Rio and Pattaya so much.
The only question I have at this point is; Is there one place better than another to exchange dollars for pesos?
Looking forward to the trip and meeting some of you as well!

I'll be in a couple days after you at NG. For cambios, I always use one of two different store fronts. The best is hard to find. When you exit NG go right to the corner and make a left. Pass Bailey's restaurant and the Banco Popular. The next corner is a small plaza of shops including the Orange store. Go to the back of the plaza and enter an unmarked blue door. inside is a gate and if you wait a second, they'll buzz you in. I consistently get the best rates there.
In the alternative, bear to the left when you pass Bailey's and just before you get to the Happy Bar, on the left is a money exchange.
Lastly, you can also exchange money when you buy groceries at the Supermercado Playero. Pay in dollars and they'll convert. Used to be the best rate but now it's always just below.
Remember, the rates go down on weekends and the ATMs tend to run out of money so stock up on Friday.

The guy with the baseball cap walking along the beach, I don't know his name but he is the only one. Consistently always gives the best rate.. A few months back he was giving me 36.80 while every was getting 36.50 at the hotels and the guys screaming CHANGE CHANGE by the Verizon place.

Clean, secure and busy. Never had a problem and I exhanged dollars every couple of days.
Last visit was Jan '08. It was my first visit to Sosua, but my second time in the DR. Big shout out to Mr. GoGo! We didn't get a chance to hang out due to flight issues landing, but if we happen to be there around the same time...drinks are on me.
I enjoyed my stay at the NG. I have nothing negative to say about the place. It was a great choice.

Many thanks![/QUOTE] That was the trip from hell. I was visiting a girl in Tampa. Well I get a pre recorded phone call at 6am that my American flight at 9am was cancelled. My connecting flight from MIA to POP was at 1:20pm out of MIA. I get on the phone and Continental has a 10: am to MIA for 150usd. The plane was like a big coffin with nine seats and two propellers. The flight wasnt bad and you actually get to see the pilot land as I was looking over his shoulder.
I get to MIA and meet Always Horney and we board the 1:20 to POP. We get all the way to POP and the pilot can't land because of weather. So we fly in cicles for two hours while the flight awaits orders from Houston. They send us back to MIA and everyone has to stand in line for changes. Some people opted for the SD plane at 8:30pm. I said fuck it and American later gave me a 400 dollar voucher.
I was wondering what ever happened to you. You still drinking Patron? And the trip report you posted about catching the wrong bus to nowhere was funny. Keep me posted on your dates.

I will be in Sosua November 14-23. Not staying at NG this time around but will be dropping by to see who's there. New Garden is always a good choice, especially for a first timer. You'll see what I mean when you reflect on your trip.

Exchange money at any small place in sosua. The rate is about usually the same. Also, there will be men in the streets exchanging money as well. When exiting NG go right to the end of the block. On that corner, there will probably be 2 or 3 guys exchanging money. It is safe to use this method.
Got to the exchange bank in Charimicos. It's right down the hill from the Caribe Tours bus station. It's the building next to Bon Ice Cream. They have the rate posted outside and there is nowhere on the tourist side of Sosua that can beat their rate. right now they offer 37.15 or better when the best you can get on the El Batey side is 37.05.

Good idea. If you change US$1000 you will receive 100 pesos more than you could get in El Batey. This should pay your motoconcho fare there and back.

Well I am going to Sosua on 19th. 23rd DEC, have question about la passion. I saw take out menu on there rate sheet. Is there any extra fees the girl charges or ask after I pay take out charges? Is that fees includes every thing for the night for the girl? Any hidden charges? How many pops you are allowed with the girl? What is the take out charges iin crystal or bohen? Do I have to pay extra to the girl for the night? Do the charge extra to bring them to sosua from puerto plata? Do you know crystal website? Is there any more places like la passion in sosua / puerto plate that I need to know? What will be Sosua girls from bars or disco all nighter will cost me on average? I will appreciate if any of you guys give me some feed back. Also give me the price value in US dollars.

You've got time to RTFF before late December, it would be very worth your while to go back and spend some time on it. None of these things has changed in a long time. It is probably not a good idea to arrange for "all night" (LT) with some chica you don't know. There is little point in transporting chicas from PP to sosua. Crystal/Bohen are overpriced venues for the same chicas. There is a similar place right next to Passions, but otherwise no similar places. There is a lot of discussion of prices that's worth reading to get a feel for it. The exchange rate is 37:1 so get used to different dollar equivalents because you will really lose money if you try to pay chicas in dollars. Generally chicas will ask you for 2K-3K and will settle for 1K to 1.5K. At 37:1, 1000 pesos (1K) is about $27. So think of 1000 as $30, 500 as $15, 100 as $3.
You will read lots of reports from guys who regret blundering in and negotiating for LT (all night) and having the chica turn out to be... no good, crazy, have to leave for 'emergency', etc etc. You can always ask her to stay longer if you really hit it off and things are going great, if you make her a larger offer in advance and you want to give her less and kick her out early she may have issues with it.
