The sign warns NOT to use illegal taxi. Fair enough! nice gesture
The signs reccomends to look for the 'official yellow", ie the guys in yellow jacket, (being agents for the ) AOT LIMOUSINE.
That means, AOT buys your confidence in informing you not to end in a taxi scam and use their services, allegedly presenting themselves as a legitimate taxi company.
They surely are not illegal, they are legitimate BUT, they are not taxi and they do not charge taxi prices.
These services ARE NOT THE METERED TAXI, but limo-service.
So if you do not want to overpay 2-3 times what you can spend in a normal taxi, BEWARE also of AOT yello jackets!:)))
I used the taxi meter from the departure curb, pretty new car, regular driver, got a bit lost to reach LL (but have to say I mixed up the sub-soi) and we both could not the clear street sign of LL. A call to LL sorted out the technicalities and the guy asked wheteher he could a round the block ride to reach LL with a legitimate drive )ie not a funny reverse.
I nodded and the total cost ws barely 300Bt.
Same cost on the way from LL to the airport. With another legitiamte meter taxi. In bothcases I asked how much they'd charge for the ride and both smiled "meter price":) So not all taxi guys are there to pick in our pockets, lol

I think it is still good advice to go up one level to departures, look for someone dropping of, and make sure meter. I paid 225 once, 175 on the meter plus I gave him a tip fo being honest, that was to LL. 300 is max, either way they take you.

I always did this at Don Muang, and a couple of times at Suvarnabhumi. However last week I tried and got waved off by an officious little prick in a uniform. The taxi made no attempt to stop further up the kerb.

The business about "illegal" cabs is playing with words on the part of AOT. The ordinary city cabs are not "official" in that they are not owned by AOT (Airports of Thailand) but they are not "illegal".

Forget the limo unless your ego requires it.

For the normal meter cab, there is a very well-signposted desk where you tell the woman your destination, you get a ticket, jump in the cab at the front of the queue, and off you go. Make sure you have some small money to pay the two toll stations. The cost of the toll is written clearly on the side of the toll booth.

It's a no brainer.

I know people who want to save two or three bucks by walking towards the airport gates and along the way picking up a cab that's dropped someone off. But it's a long walk.

There's a newish bus, Route AE-3, yellow in colour that runs the length of Sukhumvit to and from the airport. It's Baht 150, it leaves from the Public Transportation Centre of the airport, located near the Bangkok Catering Company Building about 5 min. drive from the passenger terminal. You get to the centre from the terminals via a shuttle bus.

Going the other way, that is, to the airport, it actually drops you off at the departure level. (Arriving you have to go to the Public Transportation Centre.)

It's handy for people going direct to Pattaya, because the bus stops at a tranfer terminal where you can get an air con bus to Pattaya.

Maybe I'm Cheap Charlie but I think the AE3 is the way to go. Save the baht for a more noble purpose! AE3 is clean, air-conditioned, and comfortable. Crawl in and doze off while the bus heads for Nana. It probably takes longer than a taxi, but it's a hell of a bargain.

What I mean is the signs warn people to only use the official taxi and avoid all others. Outside the door, though, is an official meter taxi stand that does not use the AOT taxi. These are regular meter taxis. I think someone's brother-in-law needed a job, this is the usual reason they have "Official Taxis" with AOT backing.

Yes, it can be confusing, yes it can be dangerous, but don't loose your common sense just because you are in Thailand. Keep you common sense and remember " Don't put yourself in a position of something happening ".
Never take something from anyone especially if you don't know them deliver anything for anyone. If you buy something and it is wrapped always check it again later before you pack your bags.

As for Taxi's, when you walk out of Immigration, there will be many people, and I don't care what color they are wearing just say no and walk past them to the left... out through the spinning glass door to the sidewalk. You will see a taxi booth. Just tell him or her where you want to go, she will give you a slip, if you are going to Bangkok, this slip will include a 50 baht charge. The slip will be given to the next Taxi guy in line. He will take your bags etc... once inside the car... if he doesn't turn on the meter tell him and point to the meter. After that is taken care of tell him or give him a card of the hotel where you are staying. You can always get on the web and print out a map of the hotel. If he ask you tollway, that is extra and depending on the time of day it might be a good idea. If you come in midnight really not necessary! usually around 65 baht total. Like everyone said, meter will be somewhere are 210-300 baht. I last came to BKK by taxi from airport this last January, to Nana Hotel... tops 210 plus 50, I gave him 300 baht. If you take a Taxi to Pattaya, in June, I paid 1500 baht, that included everything along with the tollway charge. The guy did a nice slow job so I gave him a 100 tip.

Personally, unless I need something fancy like a big limo or big van... I just take the taxi that comes from the booth.

going to the departure area is still the best bet..police are moving people along, but taxis still have to stop to drop off passengers and are happy to pick you up, and properly turn on their meters

Nice report Showdown. I were in Chinatown myself during this vacation, but not to find street *****s. I went there for sightseeing reasons and because I was amazed about the atmosphere and the lively street scenes.
Though on one occation I saw some street hookers on the parallel street to Charoen Yaowarat. I guess it's Charoen Krung street.
But, you are right, they are not pretty and I wouldn't do them even not for free.
I thought I could see a ***** house, but I didn't. Anyway, I trip to Chinatown is a nice experience. I like the China Tempels, they are totally different to Thai Wats. Also, the open store and workshop houses are interesting to see.
There are different ways to Chinatown. On is the MRT until Hua Lampong station. But, it's also possible to go there by a river taxi, for example from Saphan Taksin. With the river taxi you will also see some not so famous Wats or Tempels on the river. Some are worth a visit.
At Saphan Taksin, is a Thai Wat in the shape of a Chinese Junk. It's interesting to go there, since at the kwai on the river the water is full of fishes. Thai people go there to feed the fish. It's amazing to she thousends of fish near the surface of the water.
Nearby is a old Marine Landing Ship. Guess it's not more in service.

bangkok's chinatown offers less-expensive sexual adventures than those usually reported here [i wrote this before reading recent reports; obviously this has been a recent topic of discussion]. it is a more locals'-oriented seen, yet the ladies are happy to be with farang.

i go to chinatown for other reasons, but sometimes keep my eye out for an opportunity to relax, shower, cool off. aside from the street ladies mentioned in my earlier report, where you pay a modest fee, separately, for the lady and for the room, massage parlours often offer services.

yaowarat soi 2, for example, often has ladies waiting for customers in the street, like i described before. it's easy to find on google maps. the massage parlors on that street might be better than sw, and the ladies sit outside the mp, so what you see is what you get. i got many offers from both sw and mp in that area.

yesterday i was strolling down soi 2 alley and at one massage parlor, a lady from chiang mai with thai nickname pim offered a massage. i wasn't ready, so she suggested i come back later. i did.

she was happy to let me take a shower ("ahb nam dai mai" is how you ask), gave me a very good massage, was friendly, and after the massage asked if i needed anything else. it was clear that sexual satisfaction was on the menu, in part because she had observed my fireman coming to attention and commented on it, and also because she patted my balls under the towel at one point.

can make love? can. tao rai (how much)? hok roi baht (600 baht), but then pointed out that was in addition to the previously agreed 200 baht fee for the massage.

pim has a child, and being late 20s / early 30s just a bit of chub, otherwise she is firm, strong, and not half bad to look at. much better than the 300-baht lady previously described, but not as young and beautiful as nana ladies, who generally cost about 2100 baht including bar fine, after you buy them a drink or two. for 900 baht total (see below) she was just want i needed then.

it is a large, open room with curtains between the massage palettes. visual privacy only, but there was nobody else in the room.

she was friendly, responsive, cooperative with various positions. i decided to go for a bit of daty and she seemed to enjoy it. finishing in mish, she encouraged me gently to come soon, but otherwise she did not rush me. fortunately, i was ready to do just that. a minor quibble is that she was not much for kissing, though she allowed some of that, not dfk.

she speaks limited english, i speak a little thai, both of us were patient with language. ability to speak thai not required but may make them more friendly. a simple sawadee cop will help.

when it was time to pay, i gave her a 1000b note, but received only 100b in change. asked her about this, she claimed she said 700b, but i know for sure she said "hok roi baht" (600b). i did not fight it: the extra 100b became her tip for good service.

most likely local boys are charged less, and perhaps you could bargain down if you are willing to risk service quality.

the chinese/thai seafood restaurant at the corner of soi 2 (past the bend) and soi 4 was a good way to ease the appetite i built in my session.

This is just idle chat, so please don't take it as criticism .. I'm probably no closer to the truth than you are ..

I would think that for every sponsored girl, two or three would take her place in the hopes of landing a sponsor themselves. What better incentive to take the plunge?

And I think the environment is becoming safer and safer: the girls themselves are evidence of a dangerous environment. More safety, less girls.

Working in a beer bar or a gogo, the salary is around 6000 or 8000 baht a month, according to various girls (from Sukhumvit beer bars and Patpong gogos). If you don't supplement that, you won't send back a lot to the parents. For this to be better than FL, I think you'd have to get only one customer every three days.

I agree that girls have better options: Thailand is becoming richer. More jobs, more money, better education than 10, 20 years ago. Not so?

I went to Beergarden today for a lunch and the following happend.
The waitress came over and I could see that she is in a very bad mood. So, I said sawadee khap to cheer her up. She looked at me as if I would told her old hag. So, I repeat sawadee Khap and she replied some in Thai what I not understood, but sounds not so friendly. So, I said 3rd time sawadee khap and she replied sawadee khap, which is not friendly, since she should reply sawadee khaa, except she was a ladyboy.
Ok, I ordered 29 on the menue (marinated beef with noodles and salad). I told her that I want my salad without onions and tomatos. I got the impression that she didn't understand well and so I repeated no onion no tomato, me au khap onion and tomato. So, she went away without answer if she understood.
Another waitress came by. I know her from before and told her that she should explain her colleague that I don't want onions and tomatos on my salad, since I believe she didn't understand. The waitress followed the one.
After a while the unfriendly waitress came back, with a potato salad. I said that's not what I ordered, I just want 29 from the menue and the salad should be without onion and tomatos. She replied I had ordered potato salad. I said no, please take it back. Second waitress came over and I explain her, too. Both were not happy, but took the potato salad away.
After a while unfriendly waitress came back, with a bowl of salad, with onion and tomato and the dish with marinated beef and potato salad. I said no, the green salad should be without onion and tomato and the main dish with noodles and not with potato salad.
Now they were serious angry, but brought the dish and salad back, but yelled with other waitrer and Thai bar girls, about the stupid Farang. rofl.
After a long while they came back with a dish of marinated beef and noodle which was right and a bowl of green salad, but with tomatos.
So, I just took the tomatos out of the salad and eat the staff.
Needless to say, that this was my last visit in Beergarden, which isn't a big loss for me, since the cuter girls can be found in new wave.

I'm new at p4p with a trip to BKK for 4 days last August. I had a great soapy at Nataree and visited NEP to see what it was all about. But other than a few beers with an English guy and the barmaid in the centre bar I didn't even enter any of the go-gos.

DG69, I read that the owner of the Biergarden had just recently died and the funeral was on the 23rd. That may be the reason the girls aren't too happy. Guys, correct me if I'm wrong.

Taxi from airport-LBM is right just ignore all til you head out main doors and go to the booth. I paid 350 including tolls to the hotel doorstep on Soi 11 in about a half hour. No hassle, clean cab with seat belts too.
