Sosua Reports

Well, this clean up basically pushes girls inside, to the casas and houses under the control of pimps. This is exactly what I hate, girls were free to go around and pick their punters without chulos and middle men. What a sheme.... (may be that's what they didn't like !?)

I think it will cause serious damage to the economy and businesses in Sosua. It will take years to recover, many Dominicans (or expats) who work and live in Sosua will suffer, if they think this is the way to clean up the place they are so wrong. This is how to kill it.

I blame it directly on a woman mayor, why not, I think she's not getting across the fact that Sosua only exists due to punters and chicas, all inclusive hotels died years ago, when other, cheaper places in DR and Cuba etc. came up with better offers. Another mayor would have made this point. Recall how national after midnight curfews a while back where changed for Sosua and there was an exception for this little town, because they got this point across to the authority. This woman mayor is probably doing the opposite.

In a few months Sosua will become a ghost town, it's all supply and demand. Once punters start cancelling trips, the chicas will not bother to turn up, why should they go to a place that get hassled and arrested and then not even find a punter to make it worthwhile.

Arrest ALL unaccompanied girls at night !!! - what kind of f**king law is that, isn't it against women human-rights or something, feminazis ahould be complaining against this law against women !!!!? I hope the daughter of woman mayor get arrested one night on the way to a restaurant or something, or some other important sh*t, so may be they start thinking about what they actually telling police to do .... nuts.

Really shame about Sosua, it was really good while it lasted.

I've been trying to get this same point across to my friend with no luck. For some reason he is hell bent on believing that "Aw, this only means that the girls will only show to the clubs at night." When I tell him that they would be arrested trying to get to the club his answer to that is "Aw, they'll just take a motochono to the (front of) club."

He seems to believe that all this is geared towards making Sosua "family-friendly" during the day, and that it will still be "Rated R" during the night because this is when most of the family, especially the kids, will be asleep...perfectly unaware of what goes on after dark. I'm like seriously? So more families can come to Sosua? Are you kidding me? His answer to that was "Cabarete is more expensive, so families may want to stay in Sosua because it is cheaper..."

He refuses to except the premise that all of the arrest of chicas is perfectly designed so that they will pass the word to their sisters, amigas, and cousins that it is not worth while to go to Sosua because you will get arrested. How does that benefit a chica spending a day or night in jail when she could have been making money? That is like a hourly wage worker having to call off that day because his car wouldn't start; you don't get paid on days you don't work.

He just won't believe that this will have a trickle-down effect in any way, shape, or fashion. When chicas pass the word to other chicas and stop showing up for fear of being arrested, guys will stop showing up if there are no women around! Meaning the process produced it's intended effect. He also refuses to believe that just because the Vice Mayor of Sosua is also the owner of Latinos, nothing is going to change because he doesn't want to lose any business. Well, it sure as hell doesn't mean that he can easily be bought out if only just to close the place down I said.

To him, all this means is "business as usual, except things will happen a lot later at night."

I disagree with you in your anger towards the female Mayor of Sosua. Again, she is only a sock-puppet following orders from whoever has their hand up her culo. I stand by my belief that there are investor/developers wanting to turn Sosua into "New Cabarete" or "Punta Cana North." As if they don't already have enough places in the DR where people can fly hundreds of miles over just to lay in the sun in beach chairs all day looking at each other stupidly.

No, she is just taking orders and I believe this is the first step of a grander scheme. $89/per night for a King room at Terra Linda (which was only $55/per night back in March of this year when I stayed there) should have been the first sign of things to come. But first that have to do away with the pros.

I have to agree with you on this. No way could the mayor attemp to try to pull this off without some strong backing. When the crack down started there were those who said it won't last. Seems to be getting much worse than better.

Although I am disappointed with the recent backlash against prostitution in sousa I am not surprised. If you look at it from an outsider's point of view you will see it as a cesspool of filth ripe with disease and deprivation.

There are some of us that happen to like visiting such places but in the case of sosua it is right in your face without any attempts to hide it. I've never been to thailand but I assume pattaya is much the same way. Sosua has potential as a tourist town much like neighboring cabarete. They could very well promote it for scuba diving all inclusives tennis/beach resorts or as an extension of cabarete which is what they most likely envision it to be.

None of this progress can be made while NY Party Guys and their Euro counterparts are dirtying the image of sosua and creating such a dirty unhealthy living environment. The bucks come once the trash leaves or the bucks pay to make the trash leave.

Considering the overall worldwide economy, the timing doesn't make much sense. Is Iberostar, Marriott or Hilton suddenly flush with cash and willing to make a significant investment in the North Coast?

Well, I guess we can look at this in a positive light. I'm mean, look at all the jobs that will be created with more resorts! There are so many resorts in the DR already that it's no wonder they have such a low unemployment rate....right? More resorts should help to lower it even further!

It's a good thing they thought about their own people when implementing this crackdown. Now everyone will have a job! At the resorts....that haven't been built yet....

And just in time for Christmas too! This should prove to be a very merry Christmas indeed for the folks in Monte Lano.

It's nice to see that politico's are no different anywhere in ANY country. Our sellouts sold us out to the Chinese long time ago...I guess Sosua is going to the Russians.

What you say makes sense to me. Someone has a vision for Sosua. Whether or not it unfolds only time will tell. If the mongers pack up and leave Sosua will not starve to death.

Five years ago daytime in Sosua was "tourist" friendly. I made a brief stop in Sosua about six months ago and could not believe the amount of putas out and about mid afternoon.

The mongerers money that is filtered to the Dominican community will be missed. If not someone tell me how the shortfall will be countered? The euro investors are part of the game plan, but in time Sosua will revolve back to how we know it.

Quite possibly there are no plans what so ever for new resorts. Maybe the cleanup is also to make Sosua a family friendly spot for locals. They cleaned up Boca Chica a few years ago and now on weekends and holidays BC is packed with locals.

What ever the end result of Sosua and Santo Domingo I will grin and bear it.

The weekend of December 3 in Sosua will be very interesting.

You maybe onto something, maybe some big name resorts or hotels(Marriott/Hilton) want to move in.The Mayor(female) may have her hands tied or she can look at how much more money a resort/hotel can bring into the country. That or she can be looking out for the women of Sosua and maybe she wants a better life for them besides selling there ass?

Maybe the (Mayor) and the people of DR want to change the mindset of everyone not to think of DR as a place to come and ***k there women, but to bring your families and be safe walk the streets at night or day and not see all that goes on, women walking around selling themselves half naked and what not?

But it will never become a scuba diving destination. Serious divers would never consider going to Sosua or anywhere else in the DR for a dive vacation. The world class diving does not exist in the DR.

Will be in Sosua 11/27 – 12/4 and staying at D’Piero. Based on prior post sounds like I may be attending Socua’s memorial service. Could use a wingman to help mourn the death of Sosua. Anyone going to be there?

I'm afraid I will be attending Sosua's memorial service will I arrive on the 27th.

I am there in a few days and have not given up on Sosua yet. So from what I hear is daytime mongering limited to the hotels (like NG, Europa etc) and la passion. Where else can one find daytime action? how about the beach? I tried calling up my old contacts and 90% of the numbers are disconnected. I guess the local hustlers (like Ramon) would have field day arranging dates. I read the sosua news article. It says a woman cannot be found alone in a bar or restaurant or on the street at night. Well they have to get past all that to get to classicos or other discos and I guess its ok to be alone inside the disco?? Its not clear how this is going to work out. Somehow I feel its advantage to the monger in terms of negotiations and making sure the chica stays toda noche...:))
