So, all fares go up. The definition of a 'nice' hotel is relative, so you may want to look into additional options as there is quite a widespread in pricing. I personally use Airbnb and always find good deals. Things are more expensive (aren't they everywhere) than they were before / during the Pandemic, so it that is understandable. Colombian economy is relatively strong, especially with recent investments and with the US tariffs on Brazilian coffee and chocolate making Colombian export futures look more positive.

The druggings and muggings have always been there, just getting a lot more press now than ever before. As more YouTube bros promote the city, more people without any travel experience or common sense come down, the easier pickings they are. You've already been here, so you will probably be fine. Most girls are just wanting to make a honest trade, and the minority looking to are advantage have pretty clear tell-tales that are easy to evade for all except the most obtuse idiots; or by those who choose to make high-risk selections (there are some experienced dudes who've gotten into trouble too, but a lot of it has to do with personal choices to make some higher-risk selections). The latest video someone posted a couple days ago is a really good example of someone making some really high-risk choices that got him burned.

Apologies if I was not clear. The Mansion was robbed just as New Life was, by armed robbers. Please correct me if any of that is not true. I brought up the fake police gang to illustrate the point that these kinds of crimes target foreigners. I did not mean to suggest the Mansion was the target of the fake police gang. I did not mean to offend the honor of the Mansion. I was trying to explain why I avoided the Mansion and why I avoid New Life in case it could help anyone else.

Robbing gringos will continue to happen; especially, as tourism increases. My first trip was 13 years ago and the typical gringo you came across was adventurous, cautious, well-prepared, and not flashy. Take a walk around Provenza, Lleras, or even Comuna 13 and Laureles to see that is no longer the case. The brazen robberies are the one like the recent Rolex robbery of an older Colombian man in an affluent area the other day. You do that to a gringo and he goes home ashamed and probably is in Thailand for his next trip, or finally realizes wearing a Rolex isn't worth it in Medellin. You pull that on an older wealthy Colombian. Good luck, my friend!

No one helped him until police arrived. He was not wearing any flashy jewelry sort of. Only thing is he stands out wearing shorts and sandals.
