You're right in spanish the V's sound like B's. And I kept on seeing the signs of beauty Parlors in my head with the B spelling and I said that can't be right. I'll never mess this one up again.
while here on my thoughts, just thought i let you guys know a few things noticed during my recent really short and unexpected trip to rio. the scene in copacabana and ipanema were ripping with all kinds of activity. there were the world military games, which added to the off-hobby entertainment, a surfing tournament and things like that.
someone mentioned that they liked the street vending churro guys? the city is apparently giving licenses to a lot of people to sell them on the street with these really nice and clean carts. i liked the churro and tapioca carts, but man, oh, man, i have to tell you guys about the popcorn carts. i already love popcorn, but these guys came up with a new way (for me that is) of selling the stuff that i haven't see before: the add crunchy bacon with the popcorn. as it is said, you have to die of something some day, i can tell you that heart-attack waiting to happen popcorn was just addicting. i'd never been hooked on anything except bunda; this came a really close second. just the flavor is enough to hook you.
besides my one bad encounter at 4 x 4, one can never get tired of the countless amount of fine as hell, willing, and able nymphs that live in this paradise. brazilians really know how to live life to the fullest, and their women, aaaah, their women, gdps, regular girls, and so on are so into getting their ego's stroked that it makes the environment worth the trip at least for me. they don't wear that low cut blouse or a skin tight pair of pants or jeans, or a tiny mini skirt if they didn't want you to take a peek at the merchandise. we just need to be classy in how we acknowledge their 'assets' if you know what i mean. a smile, a nice long look sometimes is all it takes in letting her know that you like what you see. she smiles back at you and the rest is up to you. i like the attitude, i love this place.
as far as the gdp's, nothing beats their very athletic, feminine and very skilful knowledge of their sexual prowess in the cabine or bedroom. just hearing that lady's voice saying over and over, 'te voy a brincar' was enough to not even think of taking a day off even if i needed a day off or two. as i was told several times, they would leave me dry once finished; they were not kidding! after being drained by the gdp's and left hurting (in a good way) after every session everyday (except for just one bad session) while there was worth the extra expense of a last minute trip. i cannot tell you where i went that things went so well, except to mention the obvious places: 4 x 4, cancun, lluomos, solarium, etc, just check bubba's guide. as far as the hole in the wall places, i can't tell anyone of these spots. prices are low and there are and no knuckleheads overpaying or over tipping! jeez, we destroyed help (i couldn't stand the place, but it was an option) , and the whole city is getting used to over generous mongers overpricing even a damned coconut on the beach. can't have that!
i can't wait to go back.

The prices have been pushed up by local Brazilians, just normal Latin American inflation. Most of the Rio hotels are operating at almost full capacity, pretty much all local Brazilians on holidays ramping up then price of everything.

It's not going to be a long time when IBOVESPA will be in the 25. 000 range I believe and lots of people will be trapped in there.
I am not an expert in economics but I have seen it happening in many countries around the world including Greece of course. Although Brasil is a much healthier country and there is not direct comparison.
Eventually Reais and prices will go down but it will take a few more years for this to happen.
In the mean time I am staying away as much as possible holding to the Far East. I am refusing to pay 150 euros for a 4x4 garota session when three years back would cost me only 50. Not that I cannot afford it. I simply consider it very highly priced for Latin American standards.
That decision was made when they asked me for an 85% rental increase, for the same apartment in Fortaleza, from February to December of 2009.
Nevertheless I have to go back this year in order to maintain my permanente. It will be around X-mass.

Let me explain myself a bit better. GDP inflation is caused by us, the regular consumer / mongers of local or foreign origin. If the locals set a price for services, say 1BR per minute, and no one overpays or tips, prices will not go up as quickly as in say, as an example of opulence and plain stupidity, a place like Help. Go back 5 years ago. Even though the prices has been set in stone for years unofficially, and communicated in every forum available, it was overran by a bunch of stupid f*ucks who went out of their way to show everybody how much money they had. Remember the wannabe rappers? Bling, bling, loudmouth jack*sses of all creeds and races, raising hell and stuff? They overpaid for everything: Girls, drinks, etc. Next thing you know, brazilians could not afford to go to their own disco and if they did it was just to drink, dance and maybe watch, just like most of your termas.
Fast forward to today. Everyone acknowledges that prices are going up for everything. However, some spots, some places where foreigners wouln't dare go have not been overpriced because it IS all locals who go there or some of us who know how to act outside the tourists areas. The prices have NOT gone up in 5 years for GDP's there and they are doing great business at these places. They are kept in my back pocket and known by locals. They should stay hidden because locals can enjoy the spoils and not worry about foreigners overpricing shit like they always seem to do.
In 8 years I watched and warned time and again about overpaying for GDP's at Help. Prices went from about BR80 for TLN and went up five fold until it closed. Again, this isn't about regular inflation it is about out of control knuckleheads who won't respect another man's backyard and follow simple instructions. In order to get along, some need to learn to go along. I know you are not one of them, but there are way too many of them out there waiting to destroy what has not been destroyed yet. So I keep some secrets because I am not having what happened before to happen again; I love this place too much.

If you are going to "rest your case" on reasoning like that, then I don't think you would make a very good lawyer. I certainly would not want you to represent me.
Your argument has been around for years. I simply don't subscribe to it when I reason it out. The high end places, of which Kilt is, account for a tiny % of the overall P4P market. Less than 1% of the market IMHO. If one person is willing to overpay at a high end place then I don't see every other GDP in Brazil asking for that price. 99% of mongers are just going to tell the GDP to get lost and go to his favourite place. I really don't see how if affects the price at other places. 99% of mongers, particularly the locals, are well informed and know the price. Adding to this the high end places are really struggling for business now, there are very few foreign tourists and Brazilians tend to not want to pay for the high end.
Inflation on the other hand is rampant in Brazil. In 2004 I paid R$1. 10 for a bus, now it is R$2. 50. A coconut on the beach R$1, now R$3. Bel Prazer type prives were R$50 for the hour, now R$100. T502 was R$85 entrance-40minutes-girlfee=total, now it is R$170. Pretty much everything in Brazil has doubled in local currency terms in about 6 years. Add to this the Real strenght and Brazil is an expensive place now. Just can't see how a wayward monger in Kilt has affected the price of anything. Can't see how this wayward monger can be blamed for Brazil simply being friggin expensive now.

To come here, after all the helpful information that people have posted (e. G, BubbaBoy, Sperto, etc.) , and say "I know some great local joints that I won't tell you about". Or the equivalent. Is just not cool.
I've continually put my experiences out there for everyone to read and I'd like to think that should be the standard for this community. If I've misinterpreted what you're saying, I apologize. But if you really are not telling people about good local places you've found, that's just not cool.

There comes a time when one comes to the realization that, no matter what you tell the grown people on this board about respecting another man's yard, they just DON'T. Like Rio and all of Brazil. I've been sworn my locals NOT to inform, because they know us. As an American I know that for every 1 report you see here, maybe 50 to 100 people go down there and do not report any information. It is their right not to tell as it is my right to keep a promise.
I cannot control what grown men do with their cash when on vacation. That is fact. It is their right to pay BR400 when BR50 is the norm and so on. So, instead of destroying what I promised to keep secret I report on the usual places. If it upsets other people here one the board, I sincerely apologize, especially the regular posters. But since the places remain foreign free as I mentioned before, I find it strange that prices haven't blown up like in other places. Their prices for service after 5+ years are exactly the same and one actually DROPPED their prices for GDP services! My friends continue to TRUST me, so I can go to where they tell me and follow their advice and pricing to the letter. I respect their information and don't distort it.
Believe me, I would love to share. But my friends will notice the influx of a few good foreigners followed by a bunch of morons and will know that I was the missing link. In a lot of these spots, I am the ONLY American. So again, if it offends people here, sorry. Get out of Copacabana, Centro and Ipanema, that's all.
