Well guys i will give you a secret, the best time to go to DR, Brazil,etc.. is a week before christmas.
Sousa is going to packed with bitches from all over the Dominican Republic, Its Christmas time so they need money for gifts for there family, friends and children. so everybody is going to be thirsty for cash. You will have alot of fresh meat in Sosua.
I will be in sousa a few days before Christmas. So I will give you guys first hand intel.

I value your opinion. My opinion is different. As equity markets never improve until debt markets improve, same way DR. Spain now has a glut of investment oppotunities, it's first world jurisdiction only hours from European countries. I follow European forums and I know what I am talking about. Btw, Cabarete is a disaster, a desert in comparison to every other successful tourist destination. Turkey, Egypt, Spain, Cyprus, Croatia etc are times closer, cheaper and more friendly. Any investment plot to turn Sosua into New Buenos Aires? I call it baloney.
Also, half of the street 'business' is done before dark, there is some game on the beach, then like up to third from lunch time to before night falls.

Cabarette a desert? Have you been there at night and noticed all the people hanging out having a good romantic meal, or the jazz festivals that have live entertainment on the beach. Cabarettes problem is that they can't expand. As for as world economics you seem to know what your talking about.
Sure, there may be some cosmetic changes in how the game is played in Sosua, but a statement from some politician is not going to change the fundamentals, which are:
Poverty
Unlimited supply of unemployed young women
Easy money from sex seeking tourists
Free enterprise culture
Cultural acceptance of prostitution in general
Relatively safe, cheap and close to the U.S.
We have politicians that have "cleaned up" my city in Canada, but prostitution is more prevalent than ever, only its gone to hotel rooms, massage parlours, and outcalls.
But Canada's lack of the basic fundamentals listed above, means that it is an expensive, hit and miss service, with no reasonable guarantee of a satisfying outcome. That's why we look elsewhere.
As long as there are lots of rich guys looking and lots of needy girls to look at, the age old deals will still be struck.
And for guys like me that likes to hook up with a regular, no big deal. She also has a wide circle of friends, so I can still do my ogling and side deals too, if need there be.
But if politicians can change the culture by decree, it would be the first time in history.

I can tell you right now that the Mayor has no input in this whatsoever. The money coming into Sosua is what is behind the crackdowns and they are the ones giving her marching orders.
Even if we followed this premise, how is she wanting a better life for them without providing job opportunities for them? They have taken away the only source for girls to make any real money, and this is all most of the girls have known for a very long time. It's like taking someone off of crack or heroine without providing them the necessary treatment for transition.
I don't know if you have stayed at any of the hotels in Sosua, but how many of these Marriott/Hiltons do you think will hire an abundance of women? There are a total of 3 guys working the front desk at Terra Linda at any given time (Willie, Andre, and the blanco-skinned guy with the dark hair); 2-3 girls working the bar in the restaurant. The maids are older women. New Garden has even less; A girl works the front desk when Omar is not there, and there is one server girl who I think is there every day. The cooks are male. The maids are older women.
I don't think any new hotel/resort will be much different.

Whether the folks there want to admit it or not, we provided a quick fix to a problem they either don't care to fix or are too lazy to put in any effort to fix: unemployment.
There is nowhere on that side of the island where a chica can go and make the kind of money she makes off a tourist. Especially when you factor in the times when she hooks up with someone ignorant to the price structure and overpays. Even half-way decent looking girls come to Sosua and can earn. I know everyone knows the big girl with the blond afro. Somebody is giving her money because I always see her on the strip in Sosua every trip! She is pushy as hell but I always tell her I have a girlfriend and she leaves me alone. If she wasn't making any money she wouldn't continue to come to Sosua.
Another unspoken truth is that Sosua is a "quick fix" for almost all the women all over the island. Chicas come from as far as Boca Chica and Santo Domingo to get a quick fix for family problems. It's like a an epic Quest for some of them. If a family member/kid gets sick or needs money for something important, what does the family/village do? They send out their best on a mission.
-She dons her "Warpaint" (Hair, makeup, nails etc. She may even have to borrow pesos from friends and family to get this done but she knows she will earn enough in Sosua to pay them back)
-She readies her armor (clothes, shoes, jewelry)
-She mounts her horse (Caribe Tours)
-After staying in Sosua for a few days or even a week she returns from her quest to her village either sucessful or a failure
The DR can kid themselves all they want to but WE know that they have nothing for these chicas in replace of the income we provide them. To somehow believe that they will all give up hooking and go enroll in the University or work at a normal job (which is in short supply there to begin with) is laughable.
They only thing that ever got hurt in Sosua is feelings. And it was usually the monger who was it's casualty. Which reminds me of another point: chicas who are skilled in the art of spell casting (wizard class) can easily get set up with a "retainer-boi" via Western Union!

Most guys send money to places they frequent. What kills me is their timing with the crackdown. Why not wait till the year is over and start a "new initiative" rather than kill Christmas?

While Ilana Neumann is the new Mayor of Sosua, Willy Olivences the owner of the Sosua Life nightclub a.k.a. Latinos is the deputy Mayor, so where does he come into the picture?
And what are the politics of the PRD. I'm no expert on Dominican politics, but my understanding is that the PRD is a left wing party and has a history of spending a lot of money creating jobs for poor Dominicans.

As far as where my information comes from I am purely speculating as to what is going on. I ask the same question as you: where does the Deputy Mayor come into the picture? Because surely he wouldn't purposely be commiting Hari Kari with his business, right? What does he stand to gain in this crackdown other than less people visiting his town and spending money at his bar?
BUT, if someone behind the scenes offered to buy his bar at a later date once the cleanup has been completed, then of course he'd go along with the process with no fuss.
Let's look at this further: I do not know how the election process works in Sosua, but who elected the female mayor to begin with? Surely it wasn't the chicas; surely it wasn't Wilfred of NG knowing what her plans would do to his business. As fucked up as the situation of prostitution may be, do you think the citizens there are happy that there will be no more stupid gringo money coming into their home brought home by their daughters, nieces, granddaughters? Somebody's going to be missing a few more meals in the mean time...well, until the PRD creates all those new jobs as you put it, lol!
And sorry, I'm still not convinced this is all of her planning and doing, not for one minute. When you have people like mayor Bloomberg trying to convince New Yorkers that the Ground Zero Mosque will be good for New York, you close your ears, open your eyes, and FOLLOW THE MONEY TRAIL leading up to the doorsteps of his office.

There is really no ideological differences between the parties. In fact they are not really political parties at all in the European sense (though maybe a little bit nearer to what are laughably called political parties in the US).
Both main parties were founded by the same man, Juan Bosch, which indicates you would have a job to insert a cigarette paper between their ideologies.
And in any case their ideologies are just cosmetic. Better to think of them as being like two mafia families who sometimes bicker about sharing out their ill-gotten gains but can be relied upon to close ranks when the whole rotten system and their common interests are threatened. All the top people of all parties have dinner together, inter-marry, promote commercial scams together, and cover up each others crimes on the rare occasions they are brought to light.
The US State Department and the CIA would not permit the existence of a genuinely left-wing party in the Dominican Republic. Nor is the country ready for one educationally or culturally.
None of you see what is really happening. There is no special reason why they are having this crackdown. They don't have some special agenda. The crackdown is designed to move the Haitians out. All of them. They can't just arrest all the Haitians because that would be racist but, if you harass all the hoes with putting special interest to making the Haitian hoes extremely more uncomfortable then you can achieve your ultimate goal. Yes, Sosua will suffer for a while but in the long run the Haitians will be gone and less likely to return.

With the crackdown, do you believe it will have any impact on Passions or the new place nearby? Technically these girls work at these places as is evidenced by the menu for services and "take out". My understanding is that the only women allowed to travel at night alone need to provide proof of employment to get around there, unless accompanied by a male. I am sure Peter can provide the chicas with something allowing them to get around Sosua to his place after dark.
How about the chicas at NG? Could the owners there provide these chicas with a "job" to allow for coming and going during the crackdown? Would he want to?
Is this crackdown, if truly enforced, going to push punters to places like Passions, BBs, O2, you know the list?
Although it is good for banter to figure out why this is happening, I am more concerned about effects of this crackdown. It seems to me more than a coincidence that SD gets cleaned up, then it moves to Sosua. My fear is what this will do to change to my little playground, the DR. If venues mentioned in this post benefit from the crackdown and business increases for them because of this, punting prices will inevitably go up (supply and demand). I don't like less competition, I like more.
What do you guys think?

Just say you heard it from me first. I know my detractors will disagree but, history does seem to repeat itself if only in different forms.
I'm guessing Negro562 has got it right. With all the crap going on with Haiti now (Cholera, earthquake aftermath), Dominicans are even more scared of Haitians bringing their problems into the DR.
