Initial Thoughts on First Day in Medellin
For those who don't speak Spanish, it can be a bit overwhelming trying to understand what people are saying. I would just try to use Google Translate to try to understand what I am being asked to and to answer. Of course, the ultimate solution is to learn Spanish but some don't have the time to learn it or can't make the effort. I know that people say that it is easy to learn Spanish but especially for the older gents, it is not that easy but you can easily learn some basic phrases and that is better than nothing.
I know that people always like to talk about taking that bus from the airport to the mall and then taking a taxi to save some money but I am usually tired after that flight and with luggage, I just want to get to the hotel as soon as possible without any hassles. White taxi for 118 mil direct to your hotel. It is worth it to me but if you are tight on cash, yes, I would take that bus.
You can get cash from the ATM at the airport. I like the green ATM upstairs. I don't remember the name of the bank but it starts with a S. You can withdrawn 2,000,000 pesos so you will be flush with pesos from day one.
I have a SIM from a previous trip. Wi-Fi is available at the airport. I don't know if you can buy a SIM card at the airport or load. Last time I got a SIM card, I was informed that it needed to be registered or there would be issues in the future. So I did go to the cellphone company outlet to register my SIM card. I usually just buy load from a convenience store when I get into town. It is relatively cheap to buy load.
I actually had an issue with my Abnb. The wrong address was provided because the owner did not want to give out the correct address to Abnb due to concerns. Now, the owner usually messages the correct address directly to the renter but in this case, she forgot. So I am at the wrong address and I don't have load on my cellphone and there is no one there. Eventually I found a place with WiFi and was able to contact the owner to get the right address. She apologized and said she forgot. A little bit of stress there on my first day!
I had arranged for one of favorite girls to visit later that afternoon and she came on time, looking great as usual. 19 years old, pretty, great body, great in bed. It was a good way to start the trip.
Afterwards I had some wonderful tacos. That is my favorite meal here.
Search of Phone / Intrusive Questions / Interrogation by Officer
2 pm is the worst in the early afternoon. I think before 12 pm is best.
There have been many stories of phone searches and a large number of questions as to the purpose of your trip. I will only tell you how my experience with immigration went.
Just in case, I deleted all chats on WhatsApp and Messenger related to girls, and I deleted all pictures of girls on my cellphone and on Google Cloud. Everything is on a thumb drive that I left at home.
After my ten minute wait, I go to the immigration officer and give him my passport. I had filled out the MIG form so he has the information that he needs. He doesn't ask me any questions and doesn't ask to inspect my phone. After a minute, he gives me back my passport and that is my experience.
There is a final part where you are directed to the left where your luggage is x-rayed or directed to the right where you just walk out with your luggage. The officer tells me to go to the right and there is no luggage inspection.
All in all, it went very well and quickly without any hassles. Of course, your experience may differ.
