I was there just last year in late Oct and it was nothing to brag about. There are some WL near the wall at nite but mostly non-thais (I think they were Cambos or Laos but not sure as I wasnt interested in the way they looked--mostly haggard, so didnt approach them).
Bar scene were kinda quiet, not much action going on so not many gals to choose from, again not too many up to my taste so skipped that also. Did go into one disco and had alot more prettier gals but unfortunately not all were WL as most were regular gals with friends on nite out only. Perhaps they could be had if you spoke thai but I didnt.
Overall impression of CM: best for relaxing and sightseeing with mongering as a minor side distraction, but if 100% on monger mission-best go to BKK.

I was there last year. It's not like BKK, but there is plenty of action. Lot of bars have hostesses who you can barfine for 400 baht or so; plus 1000 baht LT. There is also a couple of go go bars (similar procedure as BKK; one very close to Night Market) plus a disco where there are some FLs. This disco is in a large hotel whose name I cannot remember (starts with a P I think and it is a big white building supposedly owned by the Royal family). All the bars near the Night Market have hostesses for take out. I don't understand why people say it is hard to find action in CM - like I said it's not as concentrated as BKK but there is plenty of choice. Plus many hotels have in room massage with extras. I can't say much about prices because I was with one girl the time I was there and she wanted 1500 baht all day (night + following day until she had to go to work at 5 PM and then I'd pick her up at 10 PM from her bar). Of course, I paid for breakfast and lunch also. She was like a tour guide with whom you could have sex.

The PP hotel is not owned by the Royal Family.
The "hostess" clubs you mention, if they are the ones with all the girls sitting outside, they are Karoke clubs and the price is much higher than you describe; also take out is not guaranteed.
Not saying that mongering action cant be had in CM but as I stated in my post, its just not an easy mongering site as BKK
1)overall quality was not very good (compare to Pattaya or BKK)
2)FL or SW around the wall district were mostly haggards that looked like bad news
3)English not as common in CM so difficult when in discos
4)as the overall number of gals are smaller here its also a matter of timing/luck as all the nicer ones are taken out before you arrive.
agree that action could be had with more effort in CM but even then its not a guarantee as I've made my rounds (all over) but sometimes go home empty handed

Sayuri, just east of the wall, had a nice selection of ladies when I visited last month. Vast majority of clientele are Thai/Asian, though farangs appear to be welcome.
You can't beat the place for convenience and comfort. Walk in, order a beer, scan the lineup, and tell the manager your selection. Minutes later you're getting hand-bathed by a beautiful maiden and minutes after that you're enjoying yourself to the fullest on the clean bed with mirrors in front, above, and to the side. The lady in one case was young and cute, spoke just a little english, and was cooperative enough tho nothing special. She did ask "you finish" at the end which is like a magic spell that makes tips dissapear. 1000 baht / $26.
Don't ask me for directions, it's easy to find/google and most people in the Chian Mai service industry.
Update: May 06
This is what I've seen so far (Friday and Saturday)
1) Loi Kroh road, just where it starts from Thapae Gate - the beer bars here seem to be more vibrant compared to CEC. I haven't actually stepped into any one of them though, but there seem to be a lot more girls. Appears more Isaan girls here too.
2) Spotlight bar - a gogo bar similiar to any other in Nana Plaza. Barfine: 500 baht, LT: 1500 baht. The girls seem to be a bit lacking in the looks department though, but my taste is closer to the Thai than the farang. Perhaps other ISG readers might have different opinions.
3) Foxy Lady, another gogo bar across from the posh D2 hotel - outstanding and younger selection compared to Spotlight. Barfine is the same and LT rates depend on the girl. 1 of the girls, Nut, was really raunchy and turned up the heat with some farang girl. Her male buds bet 1000 baht then the farang girl wouldn't accept a kiss from her but was proven wrong. Fun night. She's really hot.
According to one of the girls, the best time to be there is 8 pm. Yes, things are a bit different in CM. Be careful when you walk there, DO NOT go into the beer bars just next to Foxy Lady - that's ladyboy central!!!
4) CEC - I passed by this place innumerous times without realizing it was the CEC. The entrance is fairly non-descript from the outside but just look for the Fedex sign and you're there. Last night's @ 11.30: wasn't impressive at all. Perhaps it was late?
5) Spazzy or Stazzy - one of the girls told me this was the one other gogo bar in CM that none of the farangs knew about. Situated on Loi Kroh road somewhere, it caters to locals. Anybody heard about this place?
6) Bubbles @ Porn Ping : went there from 10.30 and stayed to 11.20. Dead, dead, dead from a hobbyist perspective. Perhaps the 120 baht charge contributed to that.
7) Kanha karaoke - found this place but didn't venture in. It's located a block into Soi 13 on Nimmanheim road.
8) Nimmanheim road - tried to locate the brothel joints according to ISG directions but had absolutely no success. Is it the house with the dark tinted glass doors? There's absolutely no signs to designate it as a brothel.
Still on my list: sayuri, spicy, horizon, phucome and chiang mai hills. Will probably pick up from Foxy lady or spicy at some future time, since I still have another 3 weeks here.
Any suggestions, pointers will be really appreciated!!!!
Wet Nose,
Great report. Keep em coming!

What are they charging?
I was there at the end of March and could not get them to come down from 2000 baht! So I blew them off!
I have been there numerous times and paid 750, 800, 850. Usually in that area. I am a Farang. But I walked there, so no commission from driver. I had concluded that the price was now up, but you are saying you paid 1000 baht. Can we get others' to report?
Thank you
Harihara
Did they make any problem to you? I never had any problem there bringing girls, whatever is written on the guestbook I did not read.
Cheers
Amora Rydges is girl friendly. Brought many to my room in August of 05.

Bro Hari Hara,
Perhaps the prices have gone up. I paid (not 100% sure) about 1000b last time I went in Nov last year( not including tips). I too walked there to avoid tuk tuk commission.
But 2000b!!!!!! I dont think it could have doubled since Nov. but I could be wrong.

Anything more than that is a "foreigners' price " or a commissioned price with something going to another hand be it the captain, the tuk tuk or taxi etc.

Lets suppose you are at the Night Bazaar. Walk north and you will get to
Tha Pae Rd. Walk left four or five blocks and you will get to Tha Pae Gate.
If you don`t mind walking ( will take you about 30 mm at a leisurely pace)
keep walking past Tha Pae Gate, keep the same direction, after crossing the moat you will get to Suthep Rd. Keep walking on Suthep Rd for about 8 or 10
blocks and you will reach Nimmanhaenin Rd, walk to the right for few bloks
to Soi 13, it is right across 7-11 store. Walk on Soi 13 for one block and turn
right, there are four houses on your left. The first, third and four houses are
the day time *****hoses, I think it opens at 10 am to 4 pm. The entrance to
the first house is around the corner on Soi 13. These houses are for locals,
so don`t feel out of place. Beer is 40 b. The house in the middle charges 420 b. You Don`t have to walk, you could take a tuk tuk or a pick up truck from
Tha Pea Gate. Get a map to show it to the driver. The ride will cost you 20 b,
some will charge you more. Get off on Soi 13, they might charge you more at
the door. One more thing, if you don`t have your own raincoat they will charge 20 b.
Its just as easy to get a tuktuk to the Amari and walk down the few blocks to Sol 13, or for a more interesting diversion take the first lane after you leave the Amari car park and follow that down one block., turn right and keep on going. There are a couple of advantages in this.
1. less obvious (if the tuktuk drops you at a hotel he’ll be less likely to follow you and get a commission, I had one wait for half an hour at the CM Hills, just stood outside the massage parlour while I had a drink in the bar ) (Different subject, I hate paying commission when I’m telling the driver where to go, if he’s showing me a new place fine, otherwise no, not fair) If you head to the far right back corner of the car park you will find a passage through to the shops in the lane.
2. the shops are quite interesting – good art and gift shops a lot different to other places in CM
You get to a cross street with a road side food stop on the corner that’s sol 13. One of the places is right in front of you. (big steel door to your left on the opposite side of the road)
When I first went to Sol 13 it was quite daunting, very few non-Thais, lots of students and no signs. It just looks like residential and small businesses. It took me 3 days to get up the courage to go in and find out what was available. It just didn’t look like a brothel. (You would think that after 5 years of travel in Thailand I could spot a Thai thug better, sometimes I amaze myself)

Soon to return to CM – 6 days to go!
hey thanks all for the directions. I have a motorbike so things are easier - holy it's a far way to walk from Tha Pae gate! Anyways, I've searched enough times so are they the offwhite houses, with balconies overhanging the entrances? They look residential and hardly like brothels - but maybe that's the point.
And if you keep on going, on that soi, away from the general direction of Huay Khew Road, you'll see Kanha Karaoke on your left right? The doi view is located behind you?
