In the past months, I have been travelling up-country. Here some hints for our stormtroopers.

Sakon. Try the Asia hotel. Very cheap and a rather rough place. However, the parking lot has sometimes action at night with the "bungalows" serving as a venue. If you exit the hotel and walk down the small soi you will pass a small house on the right side (about 20-25 meters from the hotel). The lady of the house might offer you her services. Advisable only for those hardened Isaan explorers though.

Surin. Try the barbershop next to the old cinema in the town center. All needs will be met there, though no lookers. It is a local place.

Namrong. Enjoy the entertainment at the busstation. I was surprised by the quality.

Nan. Next to the old busstation in the city center (10 meters off the police post....) you find a kind of karaoke with a first floor entertainment area. Again, local stile.
Near the new busstation on the main road you will find bar action. Exit the busstation to the left towards the town center and then on you right hand side. the bars had 1-2 lookers. They tried to overcharge.

Loei. Plenty of action. clubs in the center, located very compact (expensive to I passed). The local hotel massages seems to prefer local or asian customers. I did not explore the bus station area properly.

Saraburi. The street leading from the road to korat to the city center has plenty of places. No time to explore though.

Try the platform on Surin Rail station. The western end. Afternoons and evenings.

I'm here on Koh Chang now and I would recommend you bring your own. I'm staying in a fairly remote area at Bhumiyama Resort, Lonely Beach. Nearby are a couple of backpacker places with a sprinkling of decent looking European girls. If anything much happens I'll report on it. But it's been raining almost constantly the past two days and most people are just taking cover, not going out.

On the way here I passed by some small clusters of resorts that looked like they may have a little nightlife. But I doubt there will be great selection and I don't know about guest friendliness of hotels.

I came here for the seafaring kind of diving but even that's not going on with the rain and the rough seas.

I have read a lot about other areas here and especially about Chiang Rai. It seems that I have some different experience than most of you had in that town. Stayed in a hotel east of the clocktower, Saen Phu Hotel, 700bath including breakfast, and a noisy disco in the basement. Buy a bottle of J-Walker Black and within minutes you can order some additional glasses for the girls surrounding you. Good command of Enlish made it easy to negociate for a 1000 LT. Only thing is to leave discrete with her to your room as all those local girls know each other. All the girls I met had ordinairy jobs like hairdresser, maids, shopgirls etc.

During the day time I went south from clock tower passing the massage parlours at the left hand side where all the girls outside yell at you "massage sir". Just smile and find out which one spoeaks a little English. If she also looks OK, I told them that I want special massage only. It seems that they do not understand "full service". They start asking 1500Bath but even with the best lookers I could negociate to 1000bath for 2 hours massage including BBBJ and good fucking. And also those girls are willing to come to your hotel during the day, but that cost quite some more. Meeting them after work was not really a problem.

So have your try.

Have been out in Isaan for several weeks now, thought I'd update some previous info and add some new stuff:

Udon Thani. Thailand's 3rd largest city. Decent enough place for a few days. Not a whole lot to do, but great food, nice folks, good accomodation value. There are a lot of older farangs with wives from Udon, not exactly a young mongers market. Across from Robinsons in a small alley running parallel to the mall is a strip of beer bars, supposedly to be demolished in the not too distant future. 80% of the gals there I wouldn't have gone home with if they paid me, but there were a few cuties. Didn't feel much rapport though, gals seemed to be a bit put off if you were just passing through Udon. Ended up scoring a freebie, so didn't partake, but barfines are 300, and I presume a minimum of 1000 baht will be necessary on top of that. Better yet are the Lao brothels on Adulyadej Road. From Robinsons walk north, hang a left at the first intersection, and the next right is Adulyadej. Another few hundred meters brings you to the first of many sois (on your right) that are packed with houses. About a 15 minute walk from Robinsons. If you must take a tuk tuk, pay no more than 30-40 baht, and have him drop you at the 7-11 or at the top of the sois, where the tuk tuks all wait. Prices are not 500 baht as quoted in other reports, but roughly 300. Most of the houses are pretty seedy, K-11 material, but there are some cute gals. First place I went, out on the corner of Adulyadej, saw one hottie, they asked 350, I presume 50 went to taking us by motorcycle down the soi to her room. Basic shack room with a scoop bath inside. Tipped the gal 100 as she got well into the session. I speak Thai so know my way around. Don't expect any gal in this area to speak English. Next night, went to the first house on the left down soi 3. Rooms here were very nice, aircon and fan, clean, spacious, decent bathroom with shower. Rate was 320, lineup of gals not great, but a few lookers. Third night, went to the soi before soi 3 (no number marked? ), went to the first or second house on the right. Beautiful gal, 300 was the damage. Again, small shack room, scoop bath outside of the room.

On the sois between Meechai and whatever street the Mekong is on, there are a few options. From the Danish Bakery/Restaurant/Bar (which looks to have ladies), on Meechai, walk down towards the river. Hotel on left has ladies, in my book all of them dogs. A couple of karaoke places looked just as bad. Decided to pass and get a good night's sleep.

Khon Kaen: weird place. Seems to be where a lot of expats met the wife and got taken to the cleaners. Bangkok+ prices too. Near the Kosa Hotel (Oasis Plaza) is a nightlife area. Eric's Bar full of expats, and another handful of bars there. One cute gal in all. No barfines allowed in Khon Kaen, basically, you need to stay a bit and get to know the gal and then you'll be an item (and on the road to ruin). From Eric's Bar, walk past the Sofitel, soon you will come to the Thai entertainment section. Lots of whiskey clubs, all with shows and gals. Speaking thai might be real helpful, and you'll need to spend some cash. Violin Karaoke had a whole bevy of good looking gals out front, but I wasn't up for wasting the cash. Good news though, walking north from this Thai strip, turn right on Sri Chan (first intersection), then left at the first possible turn (you will see a shrine with tree lights on it up ahead, very dark street). When you reach the shrine, on your left will be a small soi with 3-4 houses of I'll repute. Gals go for 400 baht, the odd diamond in the rough might be found, but again, rather seedy and only for the experienced. Continuing north from the shrine, you'll shortly come to Seven's Corner, nice corner bar with gals, good cheer (sign outside says "don't waste water, drink beer). Again, if you stay a few days, and chat well, you'll be on the road to ruin. Chok dee.

Nong Khai: I have to agree on your assessment of the hotel around the corner from the bakery. Not only are the women dogs, the rooms are even worse. The Thai/Lao places just NE of the bus terminal are a better place to look for gals.
Sala ku is awesum. A must see!

Just thought I'd add to what I just wrote, as I've had a few more explorations. Doesn't take long in Khon Kaen to hook up with the bar gals, they treat you as an old friend pretty fast.

Ubon Ratchatani. The Rock Disco in the Nevada Hotel last night had hands down the most stunning women I have seen anywhere at anytime in the Kingdom. Absolutely packed, and 80% of them drunk and loony off their asses. Got a ton of smiles, one gal walked up and said, "hi, I'm single, are you? " Another grabbed my friend's crotch, another asked if we were looking for girlfriends. I recently reported about a certain dark soi near the Serm Thai Department store in Maha Sarakham. Subsequent visits allow me to offer better directions - using the Taxila Hotel as your landmark, turn left out of the hotel parking lot without crossing the canal and then left again at the first soi.

In several visits since my last report I have found that there are often some decent looking women in this small soi, contrary to my first impression. Alas, the best looking would still seem average in Pattaya.

The choice varies greatly from night to night, depending upon who feels like coming in and who is already out with a customer. Some nights there are as few as six girls in the whole soi, and on a few good nights I have seen perhaps a dozen. There are two seperate groups of working girls here, one about 50 yards further down the soi than the other, and both are on the left side. Most of the girls refuse oral, but a few are willing, while some of those who refuse this service offer the best full service. Most seemed happy with 500 baht short time.

In addition, I have discovered a sort of brothel hotel in another part of downtown. Again using the Taxila as the landmark, one would proceed left from the parking lot, but this time using the road on the other side of the canal. Then turn right at the main lights on the Kalasin road. Proceed straight through the roundabout and then right on the soi after the next set of lights after the roundabout. Within a block you will see a few very unattractive older women sitting out on a wooden seating platform to your right.

Over a period of several nights I drove past this group, and stared at them. There was no reaction until just recently, when they finally called out as I passed at around 1:00AM. I stopped, and found that besides the 3-4 sitting in front, there were another 4-6 inside. However all were quite hideous and elderly. I was quoted 300, but then the mamasan figure chimed in and bumped it up to 500. I'm sure one could hold to the 300 figure easily enough with bargaining. I really can't recommend this venue to anyone other than the most desperate, though I have to admit that the middle aged lady I took did provide a decent bbbj.

Lastly, a friend and I did a fairly thorough perusal of some kareoke joints further out along the Kalasin highway, just accross the river. I have never been a fan of the kareoke, and have actually never been able to figure out if one were allowed to take women out from them for short time. The first two establishments had quite a few attractive girls in their early 20's, dressed in a very daring and revealing fashion for Isaan. However the third place, further down and on the right, seemed a rip-off joint with only two old unattractive ladies.

As always in such places, the drinks were expensive, and the girls were not at all forthcoming. We were eventually quoted 1500 baht for short time, a price so ridiculous that I find it hard to believe it was meant seriously. Has anyone else had much experience with these types of places? Is Isaan noted for being generally more expensive than Pattaya?

One further note of interest is that if one proceeds just a bit further out of town on this Kalasin highway past the kareokes, one will see a short time hotel on the left. This place is called the Happy Inn, though I cannot recall if there is an English sign. The rooms are clean and are only 160 baht short time.

Stayed some days on Ko Samet (a small island in the gulf of Thailand close to Rayong).

Samet is an awsome island to relax. Beaches and water extremely clean, not too many people, no cars, most beautiful landscape. Reminds me on Samui years ago. Many backpackers there, too.

Samet Villa Resort, Ao Phai, 45 Bungalows, not on the cheap side, A/C, Cable TV, Shower, Beachview, average restaurant, Hotel very well run by a swiss owner.

[b]Food[/b]

Thai food especially seafood excellent. Western food - don't even try it.

[b]Entertainment[/b]

Some bars and restaurants, a outside disco on Silver Sand Beach, 10 pm - 4 am. Fireshows every night.

[b]Girls[/b]

Nil. If you go there bring your own TG(s). There are some available in the bars / disco, but the quality is low, and the competition high.

There are more female than male tourists on the island. If you intend to hunt a western woman - that might be a place to go.

Ubon is a provincial capital with a small town feel in Issan, in the northeast of Thailand. The primary purpose of my trip was to have a tour of the Golden Triangle reagion and cross the border to Laos – however, the border to Laos was closed and I spent more time than planned in Ubon itself.

I had booked the Tohsang Hotel, 251 Palochai Road, Muang. The hotel is a middle class hotel, during my stay all guest were Asian with most being government officials. I was the only Caucasian tourist. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, yet their English is very limited.

The Tosang’s website remarks that “the hotel is located right in the middle of a calm residential area of the provincial capital of Ubon Ratchathani, which is superbly suitable for travelers who call for a peaceful and dignified stay after a hectic and long hard-working day.” I found it interesting that the site claims it is also “located only a few minute-walk away, as well as nightlife and entertainment districts of the city”.

*** The immediate surroundings
Both descriptions are entirely accurate. The hotel is on the outskirts of the city, yet it is possible to walk to the city center in 20 minutes or so.

Also, there were two ‘entertainment’ venues within a ten minute walk, one on Palochai Rd. I had been traveling alone and had chosen the hotel because it seemed to be both solidly middle class and close to gents entertainment places.

I had spend my first evening in the hotel. I was both tired, it was wet season and was pouring down.

The next day, I did venture to the downtown TAT office, just to find out that the Thai government had closed down the border to Laos. I did spend some time exploring the streets and shops, then decided to walk back to the hotel. On the last few meters, I did see place on Palochai Rd that looked like an entertainment center. I decided to give it a visit later in the afternoon. The center is 200m or so down Palochai Rd from Tohsang Hotel , towards the city center.

In the evening, the place seemed to consist of a ‘pub’ with karaoke and pool tables. Next door, there was a rather large massage place, with an equally large fishbowl – and two girls. There was another two sideline girls, one pretty darker skinned dressed entirely in black and one light skinned stunner dressed very colorful who was constantly chatting on her mobile. Then there was one girl behind the counter, the papas and two rather young Thai patrons chatting and looking at the fishbowl girls.
The papasan seemed to be thrilled to see a farang – I am sure he was sure he could charge me ‘frarang’ prices. We started to chat and negogiate. I told him I was interested in the fairer skinned sideline. He started to talk to her; she was still on her mobile and seemed to be uncomfortable. In a nutshell, she did not feel comfortable to go with me – I am very tall and later it turned out her 1st Caucasian. He continuously tried to persuade her; I declined and asked about the other girl.

The dark skin Isaan girl also seemed to be concerned about that tall Caucasian chap. It also turned out that the dark skinned girl did not speak English at all. I had the impression that the papasan very much had to persuade her – he certainly was concerned about me and his ‘farang price’ leaving.

Eventually she obliged – but still seemed concerned to go with me. The room we were going with was tiny compared to some BKK places. It did have a ‘normal’ bathtub, not one of the large round Jacuzzis you would find in BKK. Also, water pressure was low and it look like it was going to take ages to fill the tub.

The good thing about both of these things was that it left me in the small room with the Isaan girl and nothing to do. Combining resources, we found a pen and paper. We started to communicate in sign language, scribbling images and she started to relax. When the tub was filled, I had explained were I was from, that I was in Ubon to go to Laos. She had explained that she was from Isaan, did not speak English and thought I was tall.

Well, nothing really new, but she seemed to be more confident. She got shy for a moment when she undressed. She also seemed to convinced that while I was tall, I deserved good treatment and she became curious. She started to wash me, wash ‘him’ and seemd to be interested in ‘him’. Ranong is a quiet border town in a mountainous part of Thailand. Nearby hot springs are the source for the hot water showers in some of the hotels.
The town certaily has a border town atmosphere, but is not as bustling as for instance Mai Sai.
Burmese pussy is available, but the venues where that commodity is on offer spell slavery more than sexual appetite. Virgin pussy comes at a premium, but only an idiot wants that over experienced pussy.
Three easy ways to get there:
1- Take a train to Chumpon and travel onward by local bus on the next day
2- Get an early Phuket bound aircon bus from Sai Tai and enjoy a daytime trip, arrive around 6 pm
Both trips offer grand views and pas along the Istmus of Kra, where one day a canal is supposed to be.
3- Take an early morning aircon bus from Phuket Town bus terminal.
Other option are available but are less attractive.
