I've been planning for a trip to Africa this summer, not sure where to go yet, but after readind this thread, Kenya seems to be a promising place to be. This might seem like a coincidence after what Sir Van Koff asked. I'm just wondering what is the general reception of asian guys in Kenya? Or more specifically a mid-twenties Chinese. I haven't really been to mid-african countries before, so I really don't have the slightest idea about that. Or perhaps you don't normally see many asians hanging around in Kenya eh? Anyway, some guidance from the gurus here will be really appreaciated!

BTW, sometimes I wish I'm white, as you guys will get better receptions no matter where you go in the world, maybe besides places like Korea or Japan. Anyway enough of my ranting.

It has had a makeover, hence the price increase from those who know it of old and you can get a room with a hot shower provided there are no power cuts. Everyone bangs in the Forest Lodge

I like River corners hotel in River road. It's next to the Kipepeo. Surroundings might seem a little rough at night. But they have taxi's in front.

Let me reply as follows:

1. Fairview - an oasis in Nairobi! Generally, girlfriendly. If you are not on budget, book a superior room - there are some superior rooms located in a separate building (outside of the main area, across the small street). There is a separate entrance gate to these rooms directly from the street, far from the main building & reception, so no "walk of shame", no problems at all. But expensive! However, nice rooms, great beds & a huge bathroom, free internet.

2. Madhouse, Florida 2000, Havanna, Black (or Blue?) Diamond and many others.

3. Daytime: Simmers, all shopping malls, everywhere!
4. See point 3: everywhere!
