I have had girls in my bed and overheard them saying on the phone "I am on the bus, I will be there in about 20 minutes". Knowing good and damn well, that she is at least an hour and a half away and that doesn't account for the time it will take her to take a shower and get dressed. I am sorry, my time is important and I stress to the GDPs, that when they deal with an American you can't treat us the same way you do brasilians. Time is very important to us and when you waste it, it pisses us off. When I was staying in Brasil for 3 months at a time, I dint mind if a girl was late or didn't show up (Well, I did mind, it pissed me off. But I was willing to let it go and move on). When I am only in Rio for 1 week, one fucked up date, can throw off my entire trip!

now if you are one of those guys who do not mind being disrespected, then more power to you. far be it from me to tell you to change, please allow the females to treat you however they want to. i on the other hand demand respect from people i deal with, especialy if i am putting money in your fucking pocket! i gurantee one thing, these 3 females will not forget this learning experience anytime soon. and the next time they are supposed to come over, i will bet 100reais they will be on time! i have already had 2 of them apologise for their behavior and promise not to stand me up again. 2 out of 3 aint bad, as far as i am concerned, mission accomplished!

Wondering if anyone could help me out with some visa issues. I booked a round trip flight to Rio Sept 21st to Nov 30th. This will be my first time traveling to Brazil. I was under the impression a USA citizen could stay in Brazil for up to 6 months a year. I called a visa agency today called itseasybrazil and they are telling me If I want to be in Brazil for more than 30 days I have to endure an F. B. I. Investigation that can last up to 8 weeks! Are they full of s*t or do I have to change my flight dates? Any advice would be much appreciated!

I don't think the girls arrive late out of disrespect as it's normal behaviour in Brazil.
I can understand your anger as you only had one week in Brazil.

There are many cities in Brazil where the girls are ten times worse than Rio-girls when it comes to arrive in time, e.g Manaus. In Manaus you should be happy if a girl is only 1 hour late. Sometimes there are good excuses; heavy rain, long busride etc. If I date them at my place I use the waiting time to take a nap. If I date them on a public place I use the waiting time to flirt with other women. ;) I can't let a late girl ruin my day.

I think it's a shame Bravo's holiday time got so fucked up, but I agree with Sperto that that's not how Brazilians show disrespect. While Westerners find Brazilian lackadaisical view of time infuriating, the only lessons they might learn is not to trust North Americans. (You could also say North Americans shouldn't trust Brazilians, especially if you're dealing with a couple of lying money-minded putas, but mutual mistrust won't improve anyone's future experience sadly).

Brazilians view time as something flexible. *They put more emphasis on people, relationships. While some North Americans see the Brazilian perception of time and acceptance of tardiness as disrespectful, many Brazilians wonder why North Americans are so hung up on schedules and time keeping rather than to human needs. I listen to the 'connection' carefully when making an arrangement in Brasil. I am listening to see if I think they care, if they want to do what I'm asking or they're saying. On the other hand, in North America, I listen to the actual words that are said.

It's horrible when a holiday ends on a sour note. It can put you off a country. I've travelled with people who declare that such-and-such is 'rude in any country'. But rudeness is cultural, sorry. Better luck next time.

All this discussion of Brazilian tardiness by Gringos reminds me of the Big Bang Theory episode where Sheldon is lecturing Raj on Indian culture. Surely we have a few Brazilians who visit here. What is your take on why Brazilians seem to have no respect for the time of others?

BTW, one of the things I have learned from Brazilians regarding why most are so short-sighted, always looking for the quick payoff and not interested in building repeat business is the experiences they had with hyper-inflation. Had I asked a Gringo I would have gotten 10 different answers.

Luomo was packed with men on Sunday at 7PM. There were about 20 girls and 15 men. I guess its due to lack of other options on Sunday. As planned, I got myself in the right mood downstairs with some cerveja and headed upstairs. People were glued to television all day because of a national soccer match. I was given a half off on entrada. I drank 2 beers with 2 drinks which cost me around R$50. I studied their entire menu for 5 mins and realized that its almost equivalent to 4x4 for beers and vodkas. Now you have to consider these factors in mind that my last visit in Luomo was Aug 2010. Thus, I barely saw 5 girls from last year.

From the new talent, I liked only three garotas with a mix of a sexy blond, a morena, and tall mulatta with a smoking body. For those who live in Rio, I agree that I will get bored on my third trip. Finally, I met a loira from my last visit with a great ass who I chose for the deed. The cabins were full so I had to waited 15-20 mins and ran to the cabin when the loira showed up. By the time I ralised what just occured, it was too late. I don't know who to blame. Either it was due to shortage of cabins or her own intentions to increase my tab. I haven't been to Luomo for a year so I was confused if they made changes to the room.

My bill came up to R$410 or US $260. I noticed that loira booked a 1hr programma for me while I was looking for the 40mins option. There was a jump of R$80, from R$240 (40 mins) , to R$320 (1hr) option. It happened almost every trip in the past in Rio. I come to Rio exhausted from a lot of studying and work related stress, so I don't nickle and dime over spending. Garotas knows how to play their games and by the time I am aware of their con jobs, it's time to catch the flight back home. I came up with a new strategy this trip about writing rules for every Terma, agency and casas.

My next trip in Rio will be in Jan 2012 so I can refresh my memory by reading these rules and act accordingly. For example, my current rule for Luomo is below.

1- Drink 2 beers and a little whiskey downstairs before entering to save the cost of drinks.

2- Since Luomo seems to be the only option on Sunday, I will enter only Sunday between 5. 7PM. Before 5PM is too early for me.

3- Keep the 40 mins option on the back of my head and make sure twice before entering the cabin.

By following all three rules above my bill can never go above R$325. R$35 (entrada) , R$50 max (2 beers and 2 drinks) , R$240 (40 mins) , total = R$325 or $200. After studying all the other options, this will remain my strategy for Sunday until some other options are available. I am working towards making other rules for every Terma from now on, such as, which day to enter and what rules to follow. Today is Tuesday, the Monte Carlo discount coupon page is not working. I have e-mailed them about the problem and left my e-mail address to recieve coupon. If I get a response by 6PM, I am all in or 4x4 is next.

I am in the bunda last because I am not having the same luck lately with the ladies when I was in my early 20's. Most of the girls my age in the last 20's aren't looking to fool around and looking for commitment. If I was having the same luck as you are with the ladies, I would save the plane fare and the hassale to traveling 8000 miles and hit the local club.
