I tried both happy mail and kirara cafe today and figured it may be of interest for some people. To be clear, I'm Japanese American and I speak passable Japanese for casual situations so I've never experienced the rejections others on this board may be getting. For those who are foreigners who can speak/read/write Japanese though, I don't think these options are necessarily closed to you. Believe somebody else has posted about Kirara in the past about their successes.So. I wanted to get laid this weekend so I started looking around for options. I wasn't looking necessarily for a cheap lay (I'm generally pretty picky). I started looking at happy mail because I remember seeing ads here and there around Shibuya. Its essentially supposed to be a match making site. I was hoping to find a sex friend (sefure) but it became pretty obvious after responding to a few posts on the message boards that at least the girls posting in the "adult" sections are generally pros. Most also do not have their photos up and also will not share it even if you ask them. Meaning I can go in/out multiple times in a day if I don't see what I want. The setup is guys are in one room and girls in another separated by a magic mirror. When you see a girl you like you tell the attendant and he'll arrange a 1 on 1 talk time with the girl where you have 10 mins to seal the deal. If both you and the girl agree to date then you have to pay another 3k yen to take the girl out. In general the girl will expect to get an allowance of 5k. 10k for dating you. If you decide to take her to a hotel after the date it'll cost you a lot more.When I went today the place (around 7pm) it was bad. There were 6 guys in the room and only 1 girl in the other room. The girl was cute however and apparently newly signing up as a member. Unsurprisingly when the attendant came with her profile most of the guys (including me) raised our hands to have a personal chat time. The system in that case is fair where the guys would select a card from a stack and order is determined based on that. I wasn't so lucky this time with the draw and the guy who first talked to her decided to take her out on a date. I then waited what felt like ages till the next girl came (but passed on). Then around 8pm my luck changed and 3 girls came into the store at once. 2 out of the three was very very cute (the type of girls you see walking around Shibuya). I picked a 23 year old girl and proceeded to have the 1 on 1 talk. At which point we agreed on what we will do (karaoke) and how much was the allowance (10k). We then left the store together, singed Karaoke for an hour. Part of which was negotiating the cost to get laid. We then proceeded to a nearby love hotel and did the deed. I also have to agree with PP's assessment. Even the most objective observer of Japan has to acknowledge that a certain level of racism, or perhaps just willful ignorance(?), exist here in regards to non-japanese. There are many wonderful things about this place though, so accepting a certain base level of racism just becomes part of the bargain or trade off of living here. Just calling it as it is doesn't necessarily equal a bad attitude.

A tip for anyone who is a regular user of Grimpeur and doesn't like carrying around a point card for 'security reasons': the shop guys will keep track of your points behind the counter if you give them your 'name' each time you take out a girl. Recommended.ES

I think it was changed to make it so fucking hard that gaijin would never want to live here and try to understand it. :) I picked up Spanish and Brasilian Porto like a breeze; Japanese is a pain. Perhaps the ease of the Latin-based languages contributes to the conquest of the country, and the quick conquest of the women. I've been meaning to try a deai cafe for a while but every time I decide to go there, I get distracted. I'm just curious, though, how does the initial conversation between you and the girl go? And don't forget, the main source and motivation for learning English is so that you can pass the foreign language section of the entrance examination to your university of choice. There is no speaking test on that exam, and only a small listening section. JETs and private English teachers are usually up to their armpits in pussy, especially if they are halfway decent looking and can speak a fair amount of Japanese. I know my success rate went up exponentially when I was one. However if I knew a place where I could get LT J-GFE, I would definitely charge a LOT more than 5K yen. I think the thing that pushed my fluency the fastest, though, was when I worked as an interpreter/translator. Japan, on the other hand, was completely closed to foreigners for a length of time longer than the United States has been in existence. That means the language went through a lot of critical development isolated from everything else. That's what makes it so hard to learn. Regarding the prices, it's a function of the wealth of Japan. Latin America is not noted for its wealth. You can go to the Philippines, Thailand, or Indonesia and get just about all the things you describe in Latin America for the same price.

I studied in set classes and practiced in bars (alcohol helps remove the shyness at fucking up in Nihongo) and lived up north where people don't speak English much. Most places like restaurants and stores in Japan will take you in just fine. It's the sex industry that's really discriminating. There are MANY places that won't take foreigners, hell if you go check out a few websites for soaps or hotel healths you'll see on the website that it says no foreigners in the rules. There are also many places that will take foreigners, but several girls within those stores who refuse service to foreigners. Your appearance has nothing to do with it either. In day to day life you probably do get treated rather well. It's mostly the sex-industry that has a problem with you. You're actually more likely to be discriminated against than others simply because you DO have blonde hair and blue eyes. Don't believe me? Try walking into random soaps in yoshiwara. Many of them will ask you to leave.In this economy though, things are easing up a bit. One store that politely refused me last year was more than willing to set me up with a girl not too long ago. For those of us that speak Japanese, there are tons of places around that will take us in as well. All I'm saying is that there is discrimination, and if you haven't experienced it, you're either sticking to places the board recommended or you're just not paying attention.
