Phuket Reports

I am new to forum, but not t Asia and Thailand. Hope I can help with my latest experience. Just finishing a wonderful two weeks at Summer Breeze Hotel in Patong. It is my 10th stay there over the past five years. It is very clean, inexpensive, GF, and has a super staff. Also important to me, has room safe. It is only about 250 yards from hotel to middle of Soi Bangla. Easy walk even when quite incoherent. Night man is terrific (Somsak), and can always sort things out for you. Am already booking another trip to Summer Breeze in March. For me, the only place to stay.

Okay, so I'm staying in Patong at the moment. Gorgeous, it has rained only once in the past week. Anyway, I'm staying in a VERY cheap guesthouse here, 2 blocks fromt the beach. Fan room, rather small, 250 baht per night. A few nights ago a snagged a hot little bargirl and took her back home, and the desk lady came out and asked her for her ID. I've never seen nor heard of this practice. It was about 4 am, we were extremely quiet, so I've no clue how she even knew we were walking in.

Last night, I chatted up a different girl, took her out for some drinking and dancing, and afterwards went to my place. She is not a working girl - just a lovely Thai lady who happens to be really great in bed. Anyway, the same thing happens - the lady asks for her ID card, and my lady friend was quite annoyed at this.

I've stayed at many a guesthouse in Patong and Samui, and this is the first I've heard of this. Why the hell do they take the girl's ID card??

For your protection.

They probably have had complaints of things being stolen and use the ID as insurance and protection for hotel/guesthouse guests.

This is for YOUR protection, your guest is much less likely to be tempted to pinch anything from you if she knows hotel has her ID. All bar girls are used to giving up theie ID's. It is not meant as an insult...just a fact of life.

Okay, good to know. It's just strange because I've never had the desk ask for her ID, and the girl was a bit annoyed (she was not a bar girl or any kind of "working girl").

On another note, the going rate in Patong at the moment for bargirls are 1000 for ST, 1500-2000 for LT. Barfines are 200. And my haggling hasn't seemed to work to bring the price down, yet. I don't remember it being this expensive last year when I was here around August. But I guess the girls are hurting for customers, thus they will charge more. I thought it would be the opposite.

Thanks for the list Craig Less. Unfortunately, all of those places are basically inexpensive guest houses. Nothing wrong with that, but I was looking for something like a 4* full service moderately luxurious place. I've already booked the Deevana Patong, so I will have to take my chances with that, unless I get more info.

Charge 500 baht.

Also quite a long way from Soi Bangla. If I were you, I would book only for one night and then look around.

That sucks. 500 is not too bad for an overnight, but I was hoping that the Spa Wing, at least, was pretty nice from the photos.

Well, I'm still here. Phuket. Extended my trip again, what a surprize. Anyway, Nov. prices start high season , but can still get room for under 25 US. website [url]www.summerbreezehotel.com[/url] . Try that, and if full, you can walk in many places on Soi San Sabai. Should still be plenty available in Nov.

Nov prices start of high season, so most all hotels here are more expensive. You call still get a room at Summer Breeze for under 1000 baht. Website: summerbreezehotel.com. If they are booked, you can still walk in most places on Soi San Sabai and get a decent room close to the action.

Although I will be there for the "important things at nite" , still wish to be a standard tourist during the day time(at least for a day or two. Really for taking pictures so I could say to everyone back home-this is what I "really did"in Phuket. The other shit only U guys will know when I report back after my trip there). Any thoughts on what I should see besides the lying on the beach and swim? Heard of those famous places such as "The Beach". Movie by that name starring Dicaprio. Never saw the movie as I heard its a movie women likes. and "James Bond Isle? Heard of this too but dont know if its near Patong beach and is Phuket town worth a visit?

Many things to do in Phuket during day. All the beaches are great on Phuket itself, or you can take day trips to Phi Phi Island or James Bond Island or Krabi. Many paces to go and quite cheap. Well worth the money. Thats the main reason why I like Phuket over Pattaya. In Pattaya, only one thing to do. That one thing is great, but I still like to have options and break up my day a little. All in all, if there is a paradise, I think it is Phuket.

Phuket is a wonderful place and ideal for motorbike trips. Get a descent map of that Province and enjoy, but please stay away from the big bikes, a Honda Dream at B100-150 a day is good enough. I always rent mine in Phuket town and never had any trouble at all.
James bond Island is very touristy because it is BEAUTIFUL! Every travel-agent has trips to JBI - don't miss out! Panwa peninsula, in the SE of Phuket, is nice and quiet, has some wonderful beaches, a silly viewpoint, creeks and lots of small, almost empty, roads. Laem Prompthep is the 'romantic sunse place to be' if you want to really make an impression on your (bar)girl.
And eventho Phuket is the richest of Thailands provinces, Phuket town still has hotelrooms from B200...
