Thanks Inblr01. You, together with some of the other senior members on this site, are my "heroes". Have picked up valuable tips from all the reports posted on this site.

SG is not really a safe option for me. My wife's entire khandaan (family) is located around the Girish Park and Sovabazar area. So its a risk that someone may see me going into SG.

Where are the better houses in relation to this intersection?

From the posts it seems the best time to visit from both a freshness of staff and lack of Police presence is from 11am till 2pm. This is when I intend to visit.

I am Caucasian and speak neither Hindi or Bengali, is this going to present a problem?

Last time I was there it was Calcutta and is my favourite Indian city. There was a time back in the 1980's when I could visit India for a month every year and was fortunate to see a fair amount of this fascinating and challenging Nation.

At the time I was living in West Australia where successive mineral booms meant that every couple of decades the city was remodelled with very little heritage remaining.
