Only thing with all sources, there is the always the risk of bait and switch. It's the only problem I faced here in 3 years but others (mainly in DXB) have reported cases of mugging and such. So as with this hobby anywhere in the world, always be cautious. I would say it's way safer here than most places, but you still should keep your guard up as you get to grips with the local scene.

Get yourself a burner phone or esim, you will realise it's value even if you are single and don't have to worry about anyone seeing your texts and messages.

Start with the tried, tested and reported here, it will help you settle and see how it works. Am sure you will soon find your way around, and contribute some of your finds and insights.

I asked this because I don't know if there's way to get a sim here without it being bound to your name. I read somewhere (maybe reddit) you can buy a mobile number online from another country but can't seem to find out how to do it.

I started with my sim from back home, it was still my personal number, although of course not registered to my ID here. When I got a local number, I created a second WhatsApp so I can get messages for both numbers on the same phone. It was convenient but you will get unsolicited texts all time of the day and nights, especially when business is quite for WGs like it has been over Christmas and New Year. Terrible thing if you have a wife / partner.

In addition, handlers used to be suspicious, a lot asked me to send a live location to confirm am in the country before they share pictures. Apparently, weirdos who just ask for pictures from overseas with no plan or possiblity to vist is a thing (as if the Internet is short of pictures).
