Was it of public interest. A very thin maybe. As Pushkin13 said, its the oldest known profession. Prostitutes had to pay 8 asses (monetary unit) a month in Palmyra to the Roman Tax collector about 2000 years ago.

Sorry to be the guy that registers only for their first post to be a plea for help, but I could use some!

I'm staying in Pudong in Shanghai (Marriott Pudong East) for two weeks for work, and was hoping to go out and do some mongering. Unfortunately I've read enough (maybe too much) about horror stories etc. 23K bills and the like, so I'm maybe a little too cautious, and it screwed me over tonight (I think).

I'm interested in going to a BBS, as I really don't want to start with a spa first, as I'd rather deal with the not-so-nice before the nice, otherwise I doubt I'll go to a BBS at all. I read a report that there were a few places on the northern side of Yinshan Road, next to the largeish hotel, so thought I'd try there.

After a whole load of reading I thought I was ready, only left the hotel with 300 yuan, no wallet, no phone etc.

I'll detail my night briefly, I left my hotel at 7:30PM to go and get some condoms from the family mart just down the road (no idea if the BBS places supply them, but thought I'd be safe) , was planning on heading out to Yinshan Road after this, but needed to take a leak so made my way back to the hotel. On the way back I was approached by a tout offering sexy ladies etc, and politely declined and he walked off. Hurrah. Continued back to the hotel, and saw a few massage / spa places on the way back, namely a Congen, Shannana, and Bamboo7. After the tout I put my thoughts of a BBS aside, as I figured there'd be less chance of getting scammed at a spa, but upon doing some reading it didn't appear any of these places offered what I was after. So I committed myself to going to Yinshan Road. I wandered back out of the hotel, heading towards Yinshan Road.

Upon arriving, I walked on the Southern end of the street, keeping an eye on the northern end for the BBSs, about half way down I saw a few of the barbershop spinny-pole-things and thought I'd finally found them, but from a distance all I could see was guys. And they were actually cutting hair (nothing like the frosted windows / women on couches I'd been told to expect). I continued down to the end of the street heading towards Yunshan road, and saw a few other places that looked hopeful, but again didn't resemble the picture I had in my mind, one had a whole load of clothes for sale, and the other was empty.

I crossed the street to the northern side, and walked back the opposite way, heading towards Zaozhuang Road, I took a closer look at the places that caught my eye the first time, but upon closer inspection I was no more convinced. I eventually got near Zaozhuang and saw 3-4 girls on a couch in a shop, but no signs of anything spinning, and the writing on the store indicated it was a massage place. Not a BBS, also it was right next to a Harley bike store, which was filled with a whole load of guys that could very easily be considered "muscle", so I skipped this. I patrolled up and down the northern end of the street twice more, and didn't get any obvious invitations in from anyone, so I headed back to the hotel, defeated.

I'm 22, so I was wondering if they may have thought I looked a bit young, but I'm really not sure.

I'm 100% happy to report back if I manage to get something, but at the moment I'm a little defeated. I'd really like somewhere in walking distance of my hotel, so I can escape if necessary and know where I need to run to.

So a TL; DR, are there any BBS's near Marriott Pudong East? Is Yinshan Road still a goer? Why do (what I think are) BBS places no longer look like BBS's?

Any help is appreciated.

Who knows. Anyway, on Yinshan Road I would say there are probably more MPs than BBSs, and the BBSs you need to look a little harder to find. Just search the forum for Jinqao, you should find something.

Okay so I actually have something to report now!

Sorry for the long story, but I feel like I should share in case anyone is in the same position as I was and is unsure, even despite the large amount of knowledge you can gain from the site.

I wandered off to Jintai Road tonight at around 18:45, got there by about 19:05, I walked from the Zaozhuang Road end of the road towards the other end, on the Southern end of the street, all the shops are on the Northern end, so I thought I'd scout from afar.

I found (I think) four BBSs on the street, all in the half closest to Zaozhuang Road. There was no frosted glass, or barber-spinny pole things, but it was pretty obvious what they were, absolutely no signs at all, but 6-8 girls in each (in the two near the middle of the street anyway) , all sitting around, super dressed up and caked in makeup. The ones closest to Zaozhuang Road looked pretty unspectacular. 2-3 girls in each, with a guy sitting in the room with them, so I thought I'd avoid those.

The two mentioned above (with the 6-8 girls) are closish to the middle of the street (on the Northern side) , probably a bit closer to the Zaozhuang Road end, there's only 2-3 shops separating them, a quite long cigarette shop, and a dry cleaner which is a bit smaller, the other one looked like a bike repair shop.

I found a place to scope out these two, as the large majority of the girls in both shops were 7+, I leant against one of the iron fences on the side of the footpath, so I had a pretty good view of both shops, and then just waited. I wanted to see someone else go in first, as I was still pretty paranoid, pretty much no action for 30-40 minutes, and I'm starting to get a bit restless, and then a van rolls up (quite a busy street so this isn't really abnormal) , and a guy pulls out a washing basket full of high heel shoes? He then takes these into the shop on the right, and the girls start trying them on, they swap around a few (couldn't see whether money exchanged hands) , and then the guy takes the basket, goes back to the van, and then drives the 3-4 metres to the next shop and repeats, I have no idea what this was about.

After another 5 or so minutes, a guy walks into the shop on the right, and the girls all start taking turns lining up against the back door and he takes their photo? Initially I thought the guy was a cop or something (he had a jacket with a badge on it) , again no idea what this was about. Eventually he left, and the first real customer arrived! He walks in and one of the girls stand up, they talk for a bit, and then he goes into the back room with her, this happened quite a few times, but I never saw the guy come out afterwards (the girl would reappear after 10 mins or so) , eventually they did though, and I saw one of the girls slipping some 100 yuan notes into her purse, and redoing her makeup. So by this point I'm convinced this place is legit. I have no idea how many rooms are in the back though, so I'm keeping count of how many guys have gone in vs came out, I found out later that there was 4-5 rooms.

I then spent the next 15-20 minutes trying to pluck up enough courage to walk into the store, whilst keeping an eye out for cops (did I mention I was paranoid?). I decide that when the next guy comes out of the back area I'm going for it. He does about 5 mins later, so I walk up and open the door, I can't even imagine what I looked like (deer in the headlights seems like an apt metaphor though) , none of the girls knew a lot of English. I basically asked if white was okay (as I'm a westerner) , and didn't really get a response, then one of the girls says something that sounds like "5 mins" and puts up 5 fingers, I take this to mean that all the back rooms are full (even though I just saw a guy walk out) , so I get ready to head out and wait, but then she changes it to "4 mins" and holds up 4 fingers. I clicked after about 5 seconds of them having no idea what I'm saying, and them having no idea what I'm saying, they were actually talking price.

I asked for 200, and was countered with 300, I pushed for 200 again but was told no, so I relented. This honestly felt like a job interview, there were about 6 girls in the front area, and all of them are staring at me like I'm an alien, and I want desperately to get into the back room. Only 3 of them were talking to me though, the others just stared. Anyway, they then asked for the money up front, which I was quite wary of, I said they could have it after, but again they persisted. I only had 500 on me (100 in each shoe. LOL!) .200 in one pocket, and 100 in another. I pulled out the three hundred from my pockets and handed it over to the girl that was doing most of the negotiating, she was a solid 7-8 so I was more than happy to have her. She was also wearing a nurses uniform, which I didn't really notice till we were in the back room.

I get lead to the back hall way, and see there's 4-5 doors in it, we pass the first one with a single bed, and she leads me into the second one with a double bed. As expected these places aren't hotel rooms, there were a few boxes in the one I was in, but there was aircon, and it wasn't "shit" by any standards. She runs off down the hall and comes back with a bag, that contains condoms / a plastic bag / lube / wet wipes. We then get down to business. Of note though, as I'm taking one of my shoes off, the 100 yuan note falls to the floor (I don't notice this) , she actually stops me, points to the 100 yuan note, says "you dropped" and lets me pick it up before we continue. This wasn't what I'd expected at all. Anyway, I get a HJ until I'm sporting a semi, and then she tries to stick the condom on, and the condom is preeeeetty small. She's very careful about getting it on properly, which I took to be a good sign (no way in hell I'm bare backing her) , she then gives my a brief covered BJ, before sitting on the bed. I haven't had sex with a condom for a loooong time, so the sensation took a bit to get used to, a couple of times I started to go soft so she had to give me a HJ for a bit, the small condom isn't helping things either. The girl is pretty good though, granted I've got nothing to compare her to as far as bought sex goes, but she was pretty into it. After about 20 minutes I finish up, and she quickly gets dressed and ducks out of the room as I start putting my pants on. Just as I'm finishing putting my shoes on, she opens the door, says "bye bye" in the cutest voice imaginable, and guides me to the front room, I quickly walk out, and start on my way home.

I'm going to go back tomorrow and try a different girl, there was one there that was a 9-10, so I'm going to see if I can get her.

Welcome to Shanghai. It can definitely be intimidating the first time you arrive here. I can remember my first visits back in 2005, did not know what I was doing at all, but the forum here held a lot of insights and led me to many nice spas with red rope (ribbon) service. If you can't find BBS's close to your hotel you should not deprive yourself. Just jump into the spas.

For BBS's close to you, I guess you'll need to get details from mongers on Pudong side. If, however, you happen to find yourself on Puxi side in Hongmei Lu area there are some BBS's around there. One particular intersection. Hongzhong Road and Chengjiaqiao Branch road. Within about 50-100 meters of that intersection there are about 3-4 BBSs that are used to seeing westerners (at least there were a year ago when I still lived in area).

Here is googlemaps coordinates (LE FOR SURE knows of these places. They are massively obvious)

I am 99. 99% sure there are similar areas in Pudong, just don't know where. Dig around, it may be hidden in all of the posts.

Some BBS and MP on Yinshan Road are obscured by foliage, so if you're re-coning from the opposite side of the street you may not see them.

To go to Jintai Road, when you're walking to Yinshan Road, don't turn, keep walking straight on Zaozhuang Road and make the next right onto Jintai Road, the BBS will (mostly) be on your left). Those BBS are VERY visible. If you want a true down market experience, continue on Jintai and make a right one block before Jinqiao Road (sorry, I don't know the street name, but the location is very clear on Google Map). Work your way back in the neighborhood and you will see many BBS. It's easier to do at night as the lights (and the girls saying 'hello' and knocking on the windows) will guide you to the BBS's.

Remember to walk in like you own the joint and don't be afraid to walk out if the price doesn't suit you. Happy Hunting!

It's all on automatic so all you have to do is follow somebody with a headset around until there's a bunch of girls lined up and choose the best one. At a sauna, it's over an hour of service, it's usually a pretty clean room with a big shower and a soapy slip and slide along with the FS you will get on the bed.
