The cars and SUVs have what Tesla calls a "Boombox" function that allows drivers to play sounds while the vehicles are moving, according to data on the the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website Thursday. This violates federal safety standards that require pedestrian warning noises for electric cars, which make little noise when in motion, the agency says.

The problem will be repaired with an over-the-air software update that will disable "Boombox," in drive, reverse or neutral, the agency said.

"The Boombox functionality allows a customer to play preset or custom sounds through the PWS (pedestrian warning system) external speaker when the vehicle is parked or in motion," NHTSA says in documents posted on its website. "While Boombox and the pedestrian alert sound are mutually exclusive sounds, sounds emitted using Boombox could be construed to obscure or prevent the PWS from complying" with safety standards, the agency wrote.

Biden did not stop drilling at all. He paused the grant of new oil leases on Federal lands. He paused it for 2 months. This land would not be drilled for at least 5 years as it requires exploration, permitting, infrastructure and investment review before going into production. Since that time Biden has allowed bidding on that federal land so it is nonsense to state that this has any impact on current production. In the meantime oil production has recovered dramatically from the Trump disaster years and is forecast to rise to record levels next year even without addition of new pipelines and the imaginary forcefield of regulation you wingers keep raising. Personally I don't mind oil prices being so high if it stops people buying vehicles that are way bigger and inefficient that what is required to suit their egos. We have seen oil shocks before and people adjusted to smaller more efficient vehicles, now there is an alternative that permanently will remove oil demand.

Fortunately in the current situation there are options available to manage the grid such that renewables can be accommodated. I am saying that the government should be incentivizing the roll out of EVs and renewable energy so that future generations will not be held to ransom by the politics of despotic oil dictators. No matter what you say oil goes through booms and busts and adds unnecessary risks to the world economic order. I would much prefer to cut military expenditure by $200 b a year and remove forces from the middle east and use that money to provide energy and vehicles that will insulate the country from future shocks. I remember people in California giving us here in Texas shit when we went without power for 2 days. The reason for that was that the wind turbines froze. The nuclear kept going and so did the natural gas. I had electricity for only 12 out of 24 hours for 2 days. It sucked because of the cold, but it was 2 days.

Point is alternate energy fails in extreme conditions typically when you need it most. What kept people warm was going to their cars and using gasoline to warm up and portable propane heaters. There is no storage alternative as good as fossil fuels. Period.
