Similarly, when a flight is oversold, the airline offers people money for their ticket. Again, it's the same seat, but now the airline is offering you hundreds of dollars over the price they sold it to you. And some people will accept the offer while others won't. The seat hasn't changed, but its subjective value has changed. And depending on the situation, a seat in coach could be worth $10,000. Would you pay $10,000 for a seat in coach on the last flight out of a quarantined country during a pandemic without a cure? If you're SJobs, you might pay $10,000 for the last flight in to have all the girls to yourself.
