I spend a lot of my vacation time in Charomicos, (even if I can't spell it)
My chica took me for a walk to the cliff overlooking the river. On the other side of the river below (south side) the land has been cleared and leveled.
She told me that once not too long ago that area was a densely populated barrio. She said there were many sad stories of how they forced out all the local residents, and bulldozed the place flat. The idea was to build a hotel / marina complex, but it never got off the ground.
Geographically it is a natural sheltered harbour, and would be ideal, except for the existing barrio on top of the cliff above.
She said things move slow in the DR but in time it will happen, and the locals don't count for shit to the few people of influence who have always run things their own way, soley for the benefit of their own friends and family.
It was one of nhe few times she had tears in her eyes that didn't somehow end up costing me money.
Socialism. Whether the D. R. Government runs by that name or not. It is what it is. What's best for the masses.

The Russians
One rich Russian will drop more cash in Sosua in a year than you and your wingman will do in a lifetime.
Is this so? What do the Russian's buy? Portraits of Bob Marley? Dominican food? Dominican jewelry? Dominican clothes? Dominican produce? Dominican manufacturing? Dominican weapons? The most expensive thing in town is a TLN. I'm sure their gambling dosen't make up for much. They have better places to gamble.
There is a Russian presence in the DR. It is a drop in the bucket compared to the US presence. It is always going to be that way. Geographic proximity dictates that. These Russians are among the real estate scammers. They have failed before. They are not going to bring very many wealthy Russians here.
The wealthy Russians have better and closer places to go. However if the Russians do want to come to this area they have an old friend right next door, who many people feel is about to open up. If that that old friend does open up the Russians will find much more opportunity there.

Bimmy5 you need to follow the entire thread. Let me see, you got six trips or less and only to Sosua.
Where do they get these experts from?

Most of the land that barrios are built on is not actually owned by any of the people who build there. As long as the people with the title don't have an alternative use they may not go to the trouble of evicting squatters. If a use comes along though, they use their influence with government to get the land cleared. It's the masses be damned, money talks.

There's an awful lot of "mil quinientos" decrements going into that palace.

This Too Shall Pass
Next time you come I'm going to tip the Santigo twins off to kidnap you at the airport, but don't tell Jao and Bq.
BTW where the fuck is Coolie High? I heard that with the Sosua bad news, he won't come out the basement of his house. They say he has the same picture of Sade posted on the walls and can't stop singing love songs.
LMAO. Mr. Gogo I see we got jokes. Naw but with all seriousness I've just been incognegro and reading the forum. Every one is sharing there opinion on the current situation of Sosua and after doing some research and realizing that drastic changes have come to Sosua before one thing sticks out in my mind,"THIS TO SHALL PASS"!
The OGs all the way to the newbies will still hav a good time in Sosua or any part of DR for that matter. I mean seriously if you can't come up on some fine honey dip in DR regardless of the current situation you really shouldn't call your self a monger or a man for that matter. I take the current condition of Sosua for the next 20 years then try to find a decent fine woman in the good ol USA. And I live in Vegas where there's a lot of potential.
Anyway Gents I want to say thanks for naming me ROY in Mr. Gogo forum, keep coming to sosua and pay the BS no nevermind and have yourself a Merry Christmas and a Happy Kwanza LOL.
Peace,
CH

Merry Christmas!
I still have a little 'pull' from my old TS/SCI clearances. Enough to have gotten this intelligence from the TSA:
Santa Claus has been cleared to receive his "TSA Enhanced Pat-Down" from the girls that used to troll for us on Calle Pedro Clitoris . Er, Pedro Clisante.
This, hopefully, will leave him in a good-enough mood to treat ISC mongers as "nice".
Wishing you a Merry Christmas!

I paid for dinner for 4 people at Baileys Restaurant in Sosua years ago, with a bottle of red wine from Chile, Casillero del Diablo, not expensive wine and the bill for dinner and wine was over $100US. If we wanted to smoke some nice cigars at dinner and drink some fine cognac, I could easily have spent over $200US.
You can visit the Sea Horse Ranch page in Russian: http://www.sea-horse-ranch.com/ru/. Sea Horse Ranch is less than ten minutes from Sosua. Current Villa prices start at 1/2 million US dollars and go to 4. 8 million dollars. Current villas for sale can be found here: http://www.sea-horse-ranch.com/eng/sales_all.php
The Dominican Republic from what I understand puts tariffs on many imported products including cars and trucks. A $50k SUV here in the US may cost $60k or more in DR. Wealthy foreigners in the DR are driving around in expensive vehicles. Do some Russians buy expensive vehicles in DR? Or viking ranges and sub zero refrigerators for their villas? I would guess some do.
A Russian guy just bought the New Jersey Nets basketball team and may soon become the boss of the basketball player Carmelo Anthony. Russians are making a ton of money selling oil, petrodollars, and the treasury of the Russian government is not being drained by foreign entanglements.
The biggest scammer in history is a guy who was born in New York City named Madoff.
That said, I do not believe in trickle down economics. Prostitutes are independent contractors and should be allowed to ply their trade. The Dominican Government prefers the big time spenders because there are more opportunities to tax and collect revenues from people who buy homes, expensive cars, eat in expensive restaurants etc.
There are many Germans, Italians, British, Dutch people in DR. Many guys travel from the west coast of the United States to visit the DR. Many people like the vibe in DR. A rich Russian may like the vibe in the DR and decide to buy a villa. Rich Americans have bought villas in Central and South America as well as in far away Thailand. If a person likes a place, travel distance is but one factor.
Socialism. Whether the D. R. Government runs by that name or not. It is what it is. What's best for the masses.
You have things very backwards.
The DR is one of the most capitalistic places you can ever come across.
The DR is tons more capitalistic than the USA.
In the DR everything has its price and the rights of the people play second fiddle to that of the big dollar. The USA protects its people and enacts socialistic laws so they are not abused thus giving a more fair shake to the people who don't have much money to protect themselves.
Incredible how many Americans don't realize the USA is just as much capitalistic as it is socialistic. How did socialism ever become such a bad name anyway? Republican brainwashing I think. Anyway. This is straying from the main subject at hand.

Drink of Choice?
Just wondering-what is everyone's drink of choice while mongering in DR, or mongering period? I guess I'm referring to the day to day grind of hunting during the day and prepping for the night feast of the club game. Of course, most just have a favorite beer or drink that they'll get once they get to their destination. But, I'm talking about that certain home made concoction that they sip on throughout the day to keep the buzz.
For me, I usually carry a 12-20 oz used water bottle filled with 1/3 Hennessey. 1/3 Alize, and 1/3 Red Bull with a 50mg Viagra crushed up and dissolved into it. I call it MY Crunk Juice! It's weird because the Red Bull keeps me awake, but the Hennessey definitely mellows me out. It has about the same effect as Mamajuana; I usually get through 3 bottles of those by the beginning of the late evening if I start at about 11am or so.

The suppliers likely not from the DR. How many others are there like him? He is taking. He is giving nothing to the DR. You think this tiny amont of wealthy people are going to bring changes? They aren't. You bought their line. We have seen this happen.
They could buy up the whole Sosua area and it will be for them. But what's going to happen to the people of Sosua?
The only thing that could Sosua is if business is brought to Sosua. That could happen. This isn't going to do it.
