- Sorry you had to wait so long for a cab. Next time take Silver Bird instead of Blue Bird, it's the slightly higher priced branch of the Blue Bird Companies. The fare may be 15-20, 000 rupiah higher, but there's never a long line, the car's more comfortable and the drivers usually speak better English.

I think they pay 8,000 rupiah airport fee (they usually present the receipt to you as you enter the taxi) and the toll is like 12 or 15,000.

BCA and a couple of others.

As far as taxi charges go there is an airport surcharge which varies slightly depending on destination. The person sorting the taxi, I. E. A Bluebird representative will give you a card which details the charge. Around 10, 000 IDR so you need to add that plus the toll charge if the drive paid direct.

On the subject of taxis, you won't come unstuck if you take an Express, Gamya, Taxiku from the airport. All those trips are logged and meters used etc. You may have communication issues though in terms of English.

Express, Gamya, Taxiku and White Horse are fine. Pretty much any other taxis are not fine.

When you enter the front door you are in the general bar with a separate room with a pooltable.

There is a corridor to the rear which leads to the restaurant. To the right there is a sports bar with several large TV's. Behind the sports bar there is a large beer garden. Saterday there was a big party on for the seasons end of the Jakarta International Football competition. Decent live music and a huge amount of stunning ladies in the garden. Unfortunately they were all with a (mostly bule) partner.

Great party though.

Returned home quite late and went to the Netherlands Sunday afternoon.

On my second day I go to the bar in Sparks hotel, tonight they have dancers. The sitting area is really dark, imposssible to get a good look on the ladies asking for LDs there. I don't usually give 30, 000, but at least 5, 000 over the meter price is normal. And taxi drivers outside clubs and bars always expect a bit more. Blue Bird drivers usually don't say anything if you just give them the metered fare, but they won't be very happy. The others are likely to demand it up front.

EDIT: Hehe. I just saw Hilo77's post. Fair enough, but a little bit of thought to the logistics of the operations doesn't go astray. Paying a small tip enables me to think less about taxis and keeps my interactions with them down to a minimum. And I don't care about the color of the taxi, but avoiding really bad ones reduces hassles too. A general rule of thumb is that taxis that are in crappy condition have crappy drivers.
