I have another trip planned to the Mansion (Casa Blanca II) in August so I've been emailing some of my favorites. Two seperate girls have told me they would no longer go there, one because of "protection" money and the other just said it was a problem going there now. Both said I would need to meet them somewhere else. I blew it off and just figured they had been kicked out of the Mansion. I asked the one girl how would the gangs know she at the Mansion, and she said there was a girl that is at the Mansion a lot reporting them. Have you heard of this crap at the Mansion? I'm not really into supporting the FARC.

Oh I take that back, a friend did take me to one out in the barrios of CTG, but I'd be willing to bet a guaro that the owners weren't connected with FARC. But this is the Medellin thread I suppose.

I know my friends didn't think it wise for me to go to the finca up in the hills of departamento Cauca due to there being FARC sympathizers, but I have to admit this is the first I've heard connecting FARC with the Mansion in Poblado and the Medellin casas.

Interesting twist, but then again you did say "owned", so I presume you are speaking about years ago and that you are also not making a connection between girls at CB1 and the FARC like the poster with the photo from the In Search of Chicas site?

Really folks, if FARC was indeed running businesses in El Poblado, Medellin, Centro, wherever, can someone provide corraboration, confirmation, proof of that information? Please, we have a post by someone (No offense, RentaSpinner) who just posted his 1st post today. After one post and this is not first hand information, a friend of a friend "Told him so". So my question is this, are you fellas that naive to believe anything someone says just like that? Didn't we just have a long discussion of Colombians and Tall Tales elsewhere in this Forum? I am not sure, but my suggestion would be to read between the lines. I would, IMHO, trust, but verify anything anyone tells me, especially if it indeed applies to Colombia and not reported by any official type agency, you know, the State Department, Police botter in that country, a travel warning from any country's embassy, something "Official". Otherwise, take the information with a grain of salt and don't alter plans because of one piece of second-hand rumor.

He is a soft spoken stand up guy that tells it like it is. Before meeting the guy and reading the forum I expected a obnoxious loud rude bad tempered alcoholic. He is nothing like that. I suspect many are jealous of the guy.

I would not mix up FARC and (Drug related) gangs. With the risk of oversimplification, I would say that there are four separated forces, including left-wing guerriras (ie. FARC) , drug / prostitution related cartels, right-wing paramilitaries / militias, and government / military. Government is in wars with guerriras and drug cartels. Paramilitaries are in war wth guerriras. Gov. Military has tacitly supported paramilitary. Some of the paramilitaries are against drug cartels. However, many gov. Officials are receiving money from cartels. There are nuanced relationships, if not clear alliance, between cartels and left-wing guerriras. Some cartels give money to guerriras for transportation and other helps for drug trafficking. Again, the reality must be more complex.

My knowledge of the inner-workings and history of Medellin is sparse, but if you told me that I had to guess which group is more prevalent in Medellin between the FARC and the right-wing paramilitaries, I would say it ain't close, the paramilitaries. Also from what little I know of Medellin, I would think that there's a much, much greater chance of running into a member of a street gang than there is running into a member / supporter of FARC.

Let's see, with both Escobar (didn't he help form paramilitaries) and Uribe being from Medellin, would seem to make sense to me.

At what point what year ownership changed if at all I could not tell you. I will tell you at that time some girls never left so they said, perhaps indentured servants? You can digg into the archives of Poor But Happy and get some details on how girls were kidnapped from the streets taken to these casas and used for entertaining their troops for the weekend then released. Relize 12 years ago Medellin led the world in Murder, kidnapping and was most dangerous place on earth to boot. Look up a 1999 copy of Guiness book of World records you will see. My cousins wife brothers all 4 are in FARC and they are alive and well from Medellin.

With this being the "Medellin Reports" thread, maybe it's best to move this particular discussion to the "General Info" thread? I for one would be interested in exploring further the history and current situation in Medellin. For example, we can compare / contrast the murder rate in 1999 to 1993; the violence / power stuggle between left-wing FARC and the drug gangs supported by the right-wing paramilitaries; the election of Uribe and the increased military presence; the de-mobilization of the former paramilitaries (and whether they were really AUC who handed in weapons) ; the decline in the murder rate from 2002 until around 2007-2008; the upswing; AUC; Don Berna; the "cleansing" leaflets; the Águilas Negras; organized gangs; etc, etc.

Fascinating stuff.

I ussually get a lot of Oriental North Americans at My Place, but lately they've been pouring in almost exclusively. 4 straight in a row. They must have liked something in La Mayorista. Mr. Q keeps comming back, it's his 3rd time. Mr. T-Bomb Tom loved it and wanted me to post for him. He's a muscular oriental guy, I thought he was black when we talked on the phone, ha, ha. He got a kick out of that.

This guy was heavy on the "juice", that's probably why he was so muscular at 44, but he was a ticking time bomb ready to pounce on anybody that looked at him funny, I had to keep him under raps, ha, ha. Kept him close by to make sure he stayed alive, ha, ha. But he was a really nice guy, super generous with everybody, a little too much for my taste. He said he wanted to make me look good. He was very greatful beause I took him to the doctor to get some prescriptions, pharmacies, Fase ll, Mayorca, San Diego Grill, etc. And refused to take any money. In the end he forced me to take $200US for my troubles. He said he would get offended if I didn't. I payed the bill at San Diego Grill in spite of his objections. He was trying to pay for as many as 4girls for me at San Diego Grill If I wanted to, but I don't like to take advantage of my guests' goodwill.

He fell in love with one of La Mayorista girls, a newbie. 18 years old and very sweet. He open an email account for her to keep in touch. He was very happy, a very tough guy, hard to control, loud spoken, but with a very good heart. Hey, T-Bomb Tom you better stop knocking people out, specially in Colombia, ha, ha. Get off the "juice" before you kill someone or get killed, ha, ha. I took some teste a couple months ago when I arrived 2 months ago, as I had done before, but it made me really angry and hot blooded, so I stopped right away and decided no more. I think my metabolism didn't assimilate it that well this last time. No more for me. Keep having fun guys!
