A CHINESE man was detained after he stabbed a foreigner to death in a hotpot restaurant in the Pudong New Area last night.

The incident happened about 8:30pm at an outlet of the popular Haidilao hotpot restaurant on Zhangyang Road.

The alleged killer, surnamed Wu, hails from east China's Shandong Province. Waiving a knife, he entered the restaurant and rushed toward the table which was occupied by the foreigner and a woman, witnesses said.

The foreigner was then seen lying on the floor in a pool of blood.

Following preliminary investigation, police said Wu suspected the foreigner of having an affair with his wife. No other details were available. The case is still under investigation.

Before travelling Shanghai, I've read reports as far back as 2009; lot's of good information and many thanks to all contributors.

Thought it would be good to tell others of this place again. On west Nanjing road, about 250 m east of jingan temple metro station is the Portman Ritz Carlton hotel; it is sitting back from the road a little and has many businesses alongside it's entrance. One a Starbucks.

Walking toward the hotel on the western side, just past the entrance to the underground garage, is a staircase leading to the upper part. Go up and you're faces by a dental center and a medical place; on the left of these, right at the corner, you see a green cross, the sign for a pharmacy.

It is just a small place and a young woman greeted me from behind her desk, asking what she could help me with; her english was pretty good.
