There is nothing "all-out" about the campaign; Parque Lleras is literally completely open for business. Prostitution in Medellin is here to stay. Many can argue it is now the lifeblood of tourism to that area, but there is a disturbing truth we need to understand; there are a lot of men who are coming to Medellin to engage in underage prostitution. For a long time, Medellin has been known for very lax standards in this area. There are many countries with vibrant, raucous sex tourism scenes that are much better at policing that sort of sick stuff and it is my belief that Medellin is going through the growing pain of trying to control all of that. We have seen countless times over the past decade about supposed crackdowns on prostitution that amount to nothing but a few arrests of mongers who are engaging in egregious underage prostitution. It's really not that different than places like Rio where you have girl-friendly hotels and ones that aren't. Attacking AirBnb is logical but I would also say that places like Energy Living have tons of listing that claim "no sex tourism" while allowing it because they have the guards checking IDs. Things are getting restricted, but it didn't really feel that crazy to me. I'd be more worried if you saw a long-term shut down of Lleras or other sex hubs that lasts longer than a month or two.

In Thailand and the Philippines, the locals welcome you with open arms, and you don't have to be worried about getting drugged or robbed by locals who rejoice when gringos are murdered. Yes there are tolerated zones that are propped up because some businesses fought back but the general sentiment among local is disgust and resentment.

It's not just 'no sex tourists' signs at the airport or airbnbs. It's not just the mayor making speeches practically every week vowing to stop gringos. It is now a deep source of frustration for the locals who are blaming all of the gentrification on foreigners whether it has to do with them or not. The hatred that locals have for foreigners is what allows them to drug and kill tourists without remorse. I'm so tired of people on youtube who want you to sign up for their Patreon and others on these forms that completely downplay the negatives. Tell the truth, let people make their own informed decisions. If this form was honest, every other post would be a story about somebody getting robbed or drugged because it literally happens every day in this city.

2 major streamers just got drugged on stream and people only know about it because it happened on camera. Thats daily life in the city.

We all know it is not and a tourist that is not picking up hookers has pretty much zero chance of being drugged. You seem to already know everything anyway. I have lived in Pattaya for 16 years and something I have never watched is a youtuber talking about Pattaya. Maybe the youtubers that you say are downplaying the negatives are smart enough not to get entrapped in the negatives and figure their viewers are as well.

It seems unlikely any of us are acquainted with enough people and what they are thinking to know what the "locals point of view" is. In a city of more than 2 million people it's just not realistic and that doesn't even account for the factor of individual circumstances. My personal opinion is anyone who takes pleasure in the death or misfortune of other people has emotional struggles to overcome. My advice is to not spend time and energy getting caught up in it. Conduct yourself respectably, engage with women honorably exercise reasonable caution, and you will have done what you could and should do to ensure good times. It's a slippery slope to be focused on what ifs and what abouts.

Of course, who knows how Colombia might choose to respond or how things might shape up. Probably not until Colombia imposes paid visa requirement like the new president did with many other countries. But look at Brazil which is not looking too good and Brazil is a far larger and much more developed country.

I'm not going to pretend to understand the phenomenon. We've all seen it for years on this web site. There is a doom and gloom focused perspective that seems to lie in wait for any current events that can spike the fear factor. I feel like we are all responsible to help each other by reasoning with each other. I make an honest effort but I don't insist.
