If you are going for Carnaval, do you really want to be staying out by the beach? Many hotels will not even have rooms left for all of Carnaval. In case it helps, this hotel is [B][U]not[/U] [/B]luxurious, but I am fairly sure you will be able to get a room and at a low cost. It's on the West of Centro / north of Lapa, and within very easy reach of Sambodrome (two or three bus stops) and Centro termas (a few minutes walk max).

For Copacabana, although three times what you'll pay at the Centro hotel I just mentioned, the Real Palace on Duvivier is showing Carnaval period dates available at USD$328 booking through Agoda. Com. Average business standard hotel that many American travellers would expect. (The hotel site seems to be saying no rooms available, but Agoda may have block-booked - I've used Agoda many times and found them reliable.)

I don't have the time or energy to put up with this anymore. If you want to spend the rest of your natural life eating the same sandwich over and over, more power to you. It's not that I can't afford but I'm smart enough to understand that Brazil prices are similar to every high class mongering destination in the world. I had the best and one of the worst sessions in Brazil too. Why don't explore the world instead of eating the same meal over an over. More power to you if that's your style but Brazil prices are no different than Amsterdam or German FKK clubs so I am willing to take my chances.
