Ah, you must mean Madam Fluke's. Yes, she's decidedly a good-looking woman, no doubt about that. And I know what you mean about the money: sometime's it's just worth it no matter where you are -- though I'm not looking to rush over and drop 8000baht at the moment :)

Gentlemen,
I'd like to take just a moment and introduce myself, Shamas O'Dognasty. I post on the Louisville Kentucky and San Jose Costa Rica boards extensively.
I'm planning a trip to Thailand in mid April and plan to spend some time in Chiang Mai.
From my travels I've learned to stay away from the high end places. It seems like the higher the prices, the more business like the girls are and you don't get any more, usually less than you do from the mid range places.
In San Jose so many of the guys rave about the Del Ray which is the high end monger watering hole in town. Mi amigos and self have found so many places that are so much cheaper and the service is so much better. This is my quest in Thailand.
I've spent some time reading the posting here and will try to read all of them over the next week.
Thanks to all for sharing your info and I'll be posting for more info shortly.

Shamas - have a good time laddie. My personal preference in Thailand was actually to spend more.
It was not my experience that higher-end ladies were more mercenary - that occurred at all stratas of the trade.
Chiang Mai? I liked places like Madame Fluke's (see below) because they were so obviously Asian fleshpots. The asian men want to be serviced, they don't want to play romantic, they want a beautiful and submissive woman. Therefore I went to places that catered more to the asians.
When I go back in April, I will be in Rachada in BKK.
The Girlfriend Experience is a matter of chemistry and seduction. I just try to find a woman who actually likes to fuck. It can be done.
I would like to try San Jose some day. Thailand is Buddhist, so the game is different.

I'll be in BKK from 13 apr for 2 wks. I'm going to take a three day trip to CM during this time, I've already booked a room at the Royal Asia Lodge. I'll proberly stay at the Riverside hotel in CM.
If you want some info on SJO I'll gladly provide. The places I visit there are 1/3 the cost of most of the gringo watering holes and a few of the girls are very pretty and have great attitudes. One big + for SJO, BBBJ are an art form there.

joe_zop,
seems your enjoying yourself over there! hate to be a "bug"..but have you had a peek at the "pt place apartments" yet? ok....have fun over there!
-
Sorry, Chikan, I never made it over there to get inside, but from the outside they looked more than nice. When I came back to CM, things were ridiculously booked because of the holidays, and I wasn't able to find another apartment at all. Ended up staying at the Tapae Place Hotel for 550b a night, which was ok enough, but not what I'd have preferred.
I'll post more about CM later -- I'm in the last couple days of my trip, and have a bunch of work to get done before I scoot home.
-
joe zop - I liked the Tapae Place - that's the one with the very popular western-style eaterie attached, right? I brought home many a visitor and they just smiled...good location too - but get a back room.
-
Yes, it was decent enough -- a bit worn in places, but definitely in a great location and visitor friendly. (If anything at times a bit too friendly, if you know what I mean.) The eatery is so-so, and they did jack up their prices around the holidays, unlike a number of other places, but I'd stay there again. I'd pick it over say the Downtown Inn, which it probably resembles in class -- better all around and less expensive, imho, and situated so that both the night market and old city the beer bar areas are within walking distance. The only downside can be that Tapae Road gets shut down for the walking street on Sundays, so it can be a pain to get transport then, but on the other hand you've got that wonderful circus right near your doorstep.
And seeing as I did promise to post a followup here on the CM scene and my experiences I'll get to work on that.

Cheers everybody.....
As a first-timer in severe LOS-euphoria I ended up overpaying young cunning BKK-beauties. I have decided that I will not do it again (I still feel like an idiot......)
Could anyone please give me guidance on what to pay on my upcoming trip to CM (freelancers, beer bar girls, gogo girls and tipping in MP's).
Thanks.

Hmm, there's a lot of variation in Chiang Mai. Here's my take on it, but others may have a slightly different perspective:
Streetwalkers: 200-400
Beer Bars and freelancers: Short-time 300-600, Long time 500-1000 (with some holding out for more, of course)
Go-Gos: ST 400-800, (with many asking for 1000) LT 600-1200 (some will demand 1500-2000, and will refuse to go for less. Unless you're smitten, move on. Often moving on to another in the same place will change the price, but sometimes it's then a matter of principle and nothing doing. Depends on how busy it is and the lady.)
Tips at massage parlors are usually 200-400baht. By and large all tips here keep the girls happy as the big price is what's up front, and that varies depending on where you're going, ranging from 80-1500baht, generally. Tips vary if you're looking for stuff like anal, of course, as the worker is obviously looking for more.
Can't tell you the Karaoke prices, as I never wandered into one in CM, knowing they're pricy.
Be forewarned -- Chiang Mai ladies are not as easy or open as those you'll find in Bangkok or Pattaya. A large number are looking for longer-term relationships and play games accordingly. But if you're careful and selective there are very truly some gems to be found.
-
Thank you very much, joe_zop.....
I will print out your authoritative guidelines and carry one copy in my wallet, one in each of my pockets and one in my brain. I will spare my heart though... (and only overpay special gems from now on...)
Thanks again.

My buddy and I are going to Chiang Rai in April. Can anyone tell me whats it like there? We have been to Phuket and Koh Samui and just love those places. We are just looking for something differnt.
-
Chiang Rai is very different from either of those places, needless to say, since it's in the far north as opposed to in the beach and ocean areas you mention. As far as sanuking action, there's some there, but it's nothing like the scale you'll find in any of the major areas in LOS. Chiang Rai is essentially a smaller version of Chiang Mai, wanting to be a major tourist destination but not really completely pulling it off though it still gets a fair amount of traffic, rather sleepy, with some gorgeous surroundings, nice restaurants, and laid-back atmosphere. Most of the action I found was down around the night market area, but I didn't get the chance to really wander around all that much during the brief periods I was there. That said, I had drinks with a group of ex-pats who swore up and down that it was the best place in LOS, bar none, and that was why they'd settled there. Three of them were married to Thai women they'd met there, two of who were ex-bar girls. It's on my list of places to stay a longer time and explore more, as the two encounters I did have there were excellent. I think your happiness with the place will depend on your temperment and what you're looking for -- if you're expecting anything like the Patong or even Lamai areas, let alone Nana or Patpong, forget it, and if you're expecting hooking up to be as simple as walking down the street and heading over to women who call to you, again, you'll be disappointed. If you're looking for something more mellow and subdued then you might like it.
