I'm a non-paying member of PinaLove (PL); I am able to still read all my pre-downgrade messages, as well as the post-downgrade ones, and my photos are still there. I didn't have any favourites yet. I am no longer able to see who sent interests. Will I pay to join PL? No. Far fewer girls there than on FC it seems to me. I simply updated my PL profile with this message: "I am no longer able to see interest messages. If you are interested to meet me just send me a simple "Hi" message and we'll take it from there."

When I first joined a few weeks ago (pre-downgrade) my profile couldn't be seen at all. I contacted PL and to its credit the issue was resolved in less than a day.

Interesting article about the phenomenon of 'catfishing' or making a false profile to lure unsuspecting chat mates.

Each episode deals with someone who was CF'd, and the guilty even discuss what they have done on camera. I think it also happened to a famous college or professional football player in the US.

He had a 'relationship' with a girl for 3 years roughly and when she 'died' he said so on national TV which led to outbursts of grief etc and pity / sorrow for him.

Turns out once someone asked a few simple questions the 'girl' was a fan (male) who I think fancied him and created the profile to be 'close' to him. Player had never met etc just online and he thought it was real. Just like many pinays etc. For the college played it was major embarrassment and looked very silly on National TV after it was epxosed.

Some of us have fake Facebook to check the girl etc and this can prove useful for some. But to use it in the way RK article described is very bad and evil.

Through the day I've been receiving messages from panicked Pinays about an outbreak of a horrific flesh eating disease in Pangasinan. And it's spreading like wildfire!!! A one poor thing texted me: "I will pray all day and all night. We need to do that." Which of course was done during the Black Death resulting in... more death. I mention it here so you can reassure (or further terrorise if you see fit) your girl who intends to stay at home and pray rather than visit you.

I would only be paranoid about "catfishing" if I was doing something that was outrageous and calculated to rip-off or demean a woman's name or esteem.

For example, the Ohio guy that I posted about recently who arranged online to meet a woman in the Mall of Asia in Manila at a pre-determined time but, of course, couldn't keep the appointment because he was sitting in his mother's basement in Ohio.

These sort of online activities are disgusting and calculated to treat women like dogs. I am sure karma will rear its head for guys who tell serious lies like that.

I certainly don't condone Catfishing, but I see no harm in using a bogus FB profile for window shopping or keeping in touch with contacts.

IMHO I think many of the Catfishing "victims" are as pathetic as the scammers. To communicate via web chat / email and fall in love with someone before meeting them in person is one thing and can be kind of romantic in a way. But, haven't those "victims" ever heard of cam2cam? I'd be very suspicious of any one who repeatedly denied being seen via cam. It's hard to claim to ignorance too as reports of dating site and social network scams have been in the headlines for years. I guess there's a lot of really desperate and love starved people out there who'll toss commonsense to the side.

And I know when you chat a girl in 3rd world country, like the Phils, many net cafe's don't have C2C and some girls chat via their cell phone, but if requested most, if not all, of the girls who are genuine will find a net café or friend with a laptop / computer with a cam and comply with your request to see them via cam before you meet.

Ok, that clears catfishing or me. I think when I look at my FB activity it is me protecting my family chatting to fake girl profiles whom are protecting their families.

I don't do any impersonating or false truths and the best thing is I turn up!

No Filipina in her right mind is going to admit this. Least of all the fact, that she appears to have state she has aids, without even having had hiv. Not really as dramatic as it sounds. Either she's sour, or a previous bf got into her profile.

I believe s / he is a troll. Why does she say she has "aids" (sic). A test would report that she is HIV+ or something even more technical. Her husband at war in Afghanistan? I suspect she copied this from an American web blog. And why report this in public, saying she had many partners? She could contact her past partners personally through her message list. If true, she is part of a tiny (less than 5%) minority of women reported HIV+ in the Philippines. You can google the exact figures.

Update about PL. Some of the ladies that show up blocked for me confirm that their profile is still active. I still have access to many. WTF?

I understand that someone has to make some money here or there, but this is dishonest, and I don't like it.
