Otherwise the rest is true, and and I almost fell foul of this. Thankfully, I had to cancel my trip, or I would have faced the same issue leaving Cuba. For anyone who visits the US on an ESTA, rather than a visa, visiting a country which is on the US list of state sponsored terrorism countries (including Cuba) disqualifies you from the ESTA scheme permanently. Therefore you have to then apply for a visa whenever you want to visit the US. In my country, the current wait time for an interview for a visa is over 2 years!

I'm currently seriously contemplating a trip in a few months to Cuba, having gotten sick of denying myself the pleasure of visiting an interesting country for fear of not being able to visit the US (which I've found less and less appealing as the years go by, but it does prove useful for transit to other countries sometimes). I'm hopefully soon to have a Canadian passport, which will also solve the problem.

Urine and swab tests can take around a week, whereas blood tests can take two weeks or more. It's also important to know that many clinics will not contact you if you have a negative test. If you don't hear back from the clinic, it's most likely that your test results have come back negative.

Before getting out of the baggage claim there was supposed to be a desk to buy such sim card. Problem was there was no one there! Another person mentioned there was an Etecsa office outside the terminal across the street.

So, as everyone knows nowadays having no phone is akin as being handicapped. Anyway, I had someone come meet me at the airport, since I was supposed to call him once I got out of the baggage claim area so I could get to their location. No, Habana airport is not like here LAX or prolly any other airport in the US where one can pull up to the curb and pick you up. There they have to park somewhere away from the terminal (guess to keep illegal taxis from picking people up).

Found some hustler trying to "help" me with my bags and he let me use his phone to contact my drive, after that gave him a dollar for his help and was on the way. BTW, suggest to bring a bunch of dollar bills to tip as the circumstance merits.

So, after putting my bags away in my ride's car, went back to the Etecsa office and was told I could not pay for the sim card with USD! I asked and was told I needed to pay with CUP. Since I didn't exchange any USD to CUP I was out of luck getting a card there.

Caveat, you can exchange USD for CUP inside the terminal, problem is you'd only get the official rate, which is 110 to 1 USD instead of the street rate which was 260 to 1.

So, if you're willing to exchange USD to CUP at the airport you can buy the sim then and there either inside the terminal or at the Etecsa office outside, or else wait till you exchange to CUP and get better bang for your bucks. I waited till next day and my apt host loaned me 5000 CUP to buy the sim card and get breakfast and other incidentals.

Etecsa sells packages which include texts, calls and data, forgot how much I paid but I would say it's not going to break your bank. Just make sure you get enough data if you plan to be online, also, in case you need to access websites outside I'd strongly recommend you get a VPN before entering Cuba. I always buy a month's worth of Nord VPN.

Also, my phone is unlocked (android) so if your phone is locked it might not work in Cuba.

As far as street action, around the Inglaterra and parque central area there is plenty of action. Also, like someone mentioned here most private taxis and / or bicycle drivers have contacts for hook up, just ask and have them show you the prospects from their phones, yes, they have photos of the gals.

The advice I CAN offer is how to add credit.

There are a number of foreign sites (I use [URL]www.ding.com[/URL] which is canadian) where you can add CUP to your phone number with your credit card.

And Etesca has regular 'offers' (every three weeks or so), where you get multiple credit for the same amount (the last one was quintuple).

One can only take advantage of these offers through sites like ding.

So if there's an offer while you're there you can buy enough credit cheaply and talk / message / surf as much as you like.

Remember, in Cuba prostitution is illegal, so take that in consideration vs the other countries you mention. It's not point and shoot either, so you have to put in some work.

I should mention that when I travel to Cuba I go mostly for its music and activities that have nothing to do with getting laid. What I always look for is meeting a civie that I could get an ongoing relationship with.
