I agree with you that there are some nice options along Beach Road, however, they are few and far between at times. For reference, I've included a photo of a BR lady that I met earlier this year.

It all started when I was 16, it's now 15 years on and the desire is as strong as ever.

I type this report from my I phone from brisbane airport after being a casual reader of ISG for 3 years under my dads user name (for picture value) but now I have reached a point where I feel my $20 is long over due. I have chosen this thread because this is where it all began, in a little beer bar opposite dynasty inn with a lovely lady that just wanted to be friends!

It all starts somewhere for all of us and for most never ends ATM I have trouble seeing past it. As my next holiday approaches I will be on paradise again soon!

Lots of banters on this board. This is a quick noobie question. From research it seems that AC is much cheaper than Thailand and Pattaya for that matter. It seems the prices double in Thailand. So why are so many people still heading for Thailand and not AC?

If you could do a SE asian trip and have two weeks to spare for AC and Pattaya, how many days would you devote to each? Obviously you would spend a few days in Pattaya just for the experience. What is so good about Pattaya that is not avaiiable in AC?

Only real advantage that AC has over Pattaya is the fact that English is national language. If this give comforts to people who do not want to learn Thai then by all means go to AC.

I love Filipino food but with more Filipinos working in Thailand now, I'm sure that Filipino food will be there soon.

I'll take Pattaya over AC any day.

The girls in AC are cheaper than in Pattaya but some things are cheaper in Pattaya. Let me clarify that things are not necissarily cheaper in Pattaya on an equivalent basis but the lower threshold of what is considered acceptable for a westerner may be cheaper in Pattaya. For example I stayed in a fine lower level hotel on Walking Street in Pattaya for 500 baht ($16) per night. I could not find a similarly priced (700 PHP) hotel on Fields in AC. There are hotels that cheap in AC but they are probably either far down Perimeter or in a dodgy neighborhood. The jeepneys in AC are 9 peso (20 cents) vs the 20 baht bus (67 cents) in Pattaya but it only goes half as far and is less comfortable (much lower ceiling). Food seemed to be cheaper in Pattaya as well. I typically ate for 300 baht ($10) per day at my Walking Street hotel but spent around 700 pesos ($16) at my Fields hotel. There were also some good buffet deals that I saw around Pattaya that I did not see in AC.

It seems that most of the hotels and restaurants in Pattaya are locally run due to the strict labor laws there. A foreign bar owner, for example, is not allowed to be on the service side of the bar so he is just a figurehead with all of the employees being locals. AC has much more hands-on management from the foreigners so this probably drives up the prices for hotels and food. AC has more western style food as well which probably also drives up the prices. AC needs more luxury hotels than Pattaya too because there is no beach or natural recreation so I think you will spend more time at your hotel than in Pattaya. I found the other mongers more approachable and friendly in Pattaya. I think this is a side-effect of the hotel bars being smaller with the owners sitting with the customers. This makes Pattaya a better place to sit around and drink in. It also seems that Pattaya has a higher percentage of Australians while AC higher Americans. Even as an American though I found the Australians in Pattaya more approachable and more willing to give newbie advice than the Americans in AC so this is a positive for Pattaya. The Australians really seemed to like to sit around and drink and talk (sometimes in incomprehensible drunken Australian unfortunately) whereas the American in AC were for the most part cliquey and reserved.

Going to Pattaya from the airport is also less complicated and cheaper than getting to AC from Manila.

A typical budget might be in Pattaya $16 for hotel, $10 for food, $110 for drinks, bar, and girl = $136 per day while in AC $45 for hotel, $16 for food, $65 for drinks, bar, girl, and tip = $126 per day. In either place I am spending $1600 or roughly $100 per day on airfare. So it comes out to $236 vs $226. Not a big difference and if your main motivation is saving money than stay home as I bet you can beat $226 in your home town.

As to your question of a hypothetical 2 weeks in SE Asia where would I go? This is not hypothetical because I will be making that trip soon and it will be entirely in AC. Of course I will only be in one place because I do not want to sacrifice a day traveling but if it was an easy one hour door to door trip I would probably spend 2 or 3 in Pattaya. My main reason is that I personally find the Pinays to be more attractive. The reason that I would like to spend a few days in Pattaya is because there are things there that you cannot find in AC notably a beach and the Devil's Den and the shows are better. The best way I can describe the difference in feels of the places is AC:Pattaya = Tijuana:Las Vegas.

Either way you really cannot go wrong. If you really cannot decide than check out Cebu Pacific flghts from Bangkok to Clark. You can do a week in each and then you will know. Even though I like AC better I am glad that I experienced Pattaya so that I would not waste any time worrying about what I was missing and like I said, if I had more time I would shoot over to Pattaya once in a while too.

(30 May 2011) Rushed through the meeting in KL and left for KLIA just in time to catch the 3. 15pm for Bangkok. Landed at Bangkok Int Airport at 4. 25pm and waited for the BELL bus which left for Pattaya at 6pm. Arrived at 7. 25pm and reached Pasadena Lodge at around 8pm. Checked in, took a shower and headed down to X-Zone where the first bachelor party was supposed to be held. Reached there and could not find the guys and their phones were not active. Decided to go back to LK Metro area for some drinks and look for my companion for the night.

Walked around a bit and finally settled for "Anna Food & Drinks" (opposite Lek Apartment). Had a drink and talked to a girl (Om. 25yo. 5'5") who had just started working in Pattaya for a week. Bar fined her (300B + 1000B LT) and left for some dinner. On the way to dinner received a call from the guy and we met up at Club Blu.

The friend who was going to be married (aka "Bachelor") was so shocked at the display of the ladies on the window that he just sat there intimidated. We saw it was going no way and decided to advance our plan and guided him down the road to Devel Den (DD). We just paid for the services of two ladies and left him to choose. We went to MASH Agogo for some drinks and went back to pick him up about 2hrs later. What we saw coming out of DD was a different man (he was glowing). The rest of the night was spent at MASH Agogo and later with each of us securing a companion for the night headed back to our respective room at either Areca and Pasadena.

Om and I had a go at it all the way to about 5am. After releasing my 3rd shot and multiple climax from Om we slept until 11am (today). Om left and I met up with the guys and proceeded to Sabai Dee for a soapy massage. Nothing to shout about and now I am drinking coffee opposite Devid Den and typing this report. Might just go to DD as I saw two ladies that is just my type ;-)

Please, no one pay 20 baht for this service. Ten baht only.

It's 10 additional Baht for each city you cross. Example: Pattaya to Jomtien is 20 baht.

The "standard" is just to charge us the normal prices for shared songtaews:) Of course for private ones, we are Farangs.

Mental error on my part. It has been a while. 10 baht for the bus which also makes it cheaper than the jeepney for a longer ride.

Thanks a lot for your report! I have experience in AC and a few other Fils locations, as well as Bangkok and Samui. I have never been to Pattaya and have often wondered what I am "missing". It sounds like a trip is in order, if for no other reason than filling the square and enjoy some of the things it has to offer. I, too enjoy the beach and Thai food, and the ladies are easy on the eyes as well. I am just curious since you didn't mention it, did you try any massages while in town? I enjoy a good massage as a jump start to a fun evening and have found many times that leads a a good GFE experience. TIA.
