So true. There's no magic formula, just vigilance... and to never let your guard down.
Well, also not worry about it too much. If it turns out it's a LB, no big deal. Just cut the encounter short. No harm done. Try to be nice about it. It must happen to them a lot so they're probably used to it and realize there's no point in going forward in that case. Think of it the way you would if you had a girl who turned out to be on her period or something. It's not what you're up for, sorry about that. Maybe a small tip for his time if you'd already struck a deal. Do try to avoid bad scenes, some of them can get pretty nasty when things go sour. High heels can quickly turn into dangerous weapons. I shit you not.

Pickpockets
Recently, I got pick-pocketed by a group of kids (actually only one did the 'work' which happened so quickly I did not realize it until about 10 meters on) walking from SC to the 'lower odd sois'. I lost about 2000B which was all the cash I had on me except for some coins.... Fortunately had enough coins to take the taxi back to hotel.
These kids were sitting on and in front of stairs to enter the ASOK Skytrain station.
The kid came at me with bags of some lightweight 'candy?', yelling at me in Thai. I told him to [CodeWord140] off but he kept on following me with this stuff in my face before I knew it, the whole thing was over. I had an umbrella in one hand because it was pouring rain. After realizing my 'loss', I went back to this group of kids (perhaps 15 seconds after the original incident)... I destroyed their 'candy' and took revenge on this kid.
I think the dental treatment for the kid will cost him more than he earned in this event. I told them to call the police and I walked away from the scene.
Be careful out there. This never happened to me before in BKK, maybe it is getting more desperate here.
I recommend you leave all your papers and cash in your hotel safe. Take only as much cash as you are willing to spend on drinks and your entertainment. To minimize the chances of losing it all, separate some of it into different pockets.

Not in this lifetime. I am always explicitly clear with anyone who I even slightly suspect. Tell me now I say because it will get ugly later. No harm - no foul is fine for you but not me because for me wasting my time is slightly worse than wasting my money and it does not sit well!

Soi 7
Went to Soi 7 today for a look see, Beer Garden was scary and the best thing about the Soi were the oysters at the open air food stall (plus got to see two cats doing it while i ate - Dinner AND a Show!) ... i think i did see some interesting talent sitting outside the bar next to the food stall but i didn't feel like negotiating then (and they did seem a bit more prissy than the BG ladies) - i guess they are free lancers too?
Anybody up for going to Cowboy or Nana or even Soi 33... over the weekend? - i hate going to bars alone as i am not the easiest conversationalists with the girls and since i am not a beer drinker i can't just sit there and nurse a drink on my own for a long time... Unless i go to the dentist i should be game Fri/Sat.

Also my cell phone, but since I didn't buy a local sim this time, it wouldn't be too necessary. Unless I am in a first world country and have a car, I don't think this would change.

If I were you, I would be very careful walking along this part of Sukhumvit for the rest of your trip. While we need to be careful, you would appear to be foolish. Beating up a street kid in BKK? You are lucky to be alive IMHO. If some taxi drivers had been driving past and saw you hitting a kid you'd be the one in the hospital me thinks.

I agree it was foolish. I am not sure if anyone would defend these kids.
The 'dental work' comment was perhaps more dramatic than in actuality. Certainly he had a very good scare. When I let him go, he ran up the stairs to get away from me. There were 5 of them in a group and not one of them went to his defense....
It could have been much worse. Any of them could have had a knife and it could have been bad for me.
My original comment was to inform our fellow forum members of this sort of event, what to look out for and in some ways how to protect yourself or at least limit your potential loss.
Don't go back and take them on. Next time they will may be better prepared.
I'm out of Bangkok now and in fact I am a little disappointed with this trip. Perhaps next time I will try the Philippines.

Hey, it was ill-advised and dangerous/foolish but now that its over all you can say is GOOD WORK!! I'm sure the kid will think twice before trying it again.
Of course the flip side is that he may go home and work on his fighting skills. I saw some special on Muay Thai and it the showed kids in Thailand in training programs from age 4. They often practice fighting the same way American kids practice baseball so even kids may kick some farang ass if he's brash enough and if caught even slightly by surprise it spells a bad day for someone.

Right you are. Took these in Pattaya last week and I don't think these kids are even 4 yet.
Well I know this is a fun post, but never assume you (talking to everyone in general) have any reliable way to pic a LB, for certain all of the time. Always be careful and admit you could get fooled by a less obvious one.
I know a real girl (albeit undesirable one - pretty but bad character) who has a beauty complex and flicks hair very often when nervous. O.K. I didn't count the number of times per minute. But O.K. any hair flicker is a no go! ;)
Actually all known methods don't really work (and are only suspicion indicators) except for maybe DNA testing, but even that could be faked. I am yet to try detailed pussy exam on a LB, so I don't know how good the fakes can be.
Wendella's advice was pretty good. Get very familar with lady boys to reduce likelihood of being fooled.
The voice, the voice, they can't fake the voice.
Well that was a smart thing to do.... NOT.
As Pita123 said, it was foolish adn very dangerous to have not only ruined the kids candy but hit them. In these situations, it isn't the Police you should be worried about but the mob for who these kids probably work.
Hitting Thai People (let alone kids) could end up in you being dead.
no need to argue about this. There is plemty of information nowadays available in the internet for Chinese medicine aswel some scientic report done from pharmaceutical.
Its not a question to believe in it or not. By a simply tongue diagnostic they can tell you if the Chinese medicine is working for you or not. If you have no deficiency on ying and yang overall the Chinese medicine is not working then same for every one. Thats why you need a diagnostic first.
The Chinese medicine is a complementary medicine to the western one.
A overall antiaging medicine for those with ying and yang deficiency or need to improve the ying and yang.
Ying and yang. Tralala. Tralala. Ok guys now you know there is a Chinese hospital here in Bangkok the best one after shanghai. All the staff you find in the internet anyhow. For example. Typ in. Stay young with Chinese medicine. End of the story.
A tongue diagnostic. Ying and yang. Anti aging.
I'd be interested to see a head to head duel with blood letting and phrenology.
I don't see how it's 'complementary' to modern medicine. It was developed before modern medicine. So this is more like the position it was forced to take when medicine started coming up with effective vaccines and treatments that it wasn't capable of delivering. Now that everyone knows it can't do anything about cancer or malaria, it's moved on to untestable claims like youth preservation.
Hopefully this kind of "medicine" is gone before tigers and rhinos are. Prospects don't look good.

Philippines?
The Phils is way, way more dangerous than BKK. I got accosted and robbed outside of LA Cafe in Manila. That area is very dangerous and Manila is a veritable shithole compared to BKK. I think you just had bad luck. And I suppose those who love the Phils say I had bad luck.
I'll take BKK and Thailand over the Phils any day. If I were to go back to the Phils, I'd only go to Angeles. I guess if you had a girl out in the provinces it might be worth it. But certainly not to go to Manila.

Well I guess I'm confident enough of my LB-dar that the situation isn't a big concern for me, not something I worry about.
I'd also ask if I had any doubt -- I did that last time in BKK when picking up a FL in Nana parking lot. She had this Emo-style haircut with long hair covering one eye completely (and black nailpolish), so it was hard to get a good look at her face to make sure. And it was opposite Nana where it was mainly girls but with a couple of LB's (their friends, apparently) in amongst them. She said she was a girl and that turned out to be correct when I checked carefully later. ;)
I'm just saying, if you had somehow ended up back in your room and discovered it only then and there, that a high % of these LB's are pretty streetwise and a lot tougher than they look. And also quick to snap and become suddenly violent. So in that scenario, best to just cut your losses and end it politely. Not risk a bad scene that could quickly get ugly and dangerous.
hello kid
what this doctor did is absolutely unnecessary.
love to read the rest of your trip.
well, im thinking that either he was angry on me that i get a girl and didnt follow up with a merriage or he was to unexperienced. no way he would countinue when im screaming "please stop take it out" if he was serious and listening to the patient. like giotto sad, maybe he was tired about all sad fucks that come and want to test after a night..
now, 2 days after i can [CodeWord134] without pain. well, thats a relief!! the best part with this story is when i ask the nurse if its going to hurt before the doctor enter the room.
- "i dont knowe"
you dont knowe because you dont have a dick or you dont have been in this situation before with a client? (im thinking this).
11.00 now and i just arrived home. first the girl in the restaurant asking wich cologne (you say that about a "man-parfume"?) im using and flirting with me, or, thats what im thinking anyway. then here friend tells me she's only 16 and already married, one year ago. alright!!
trying to get to [CodeWord900] for a quick bj but as the sad fuck i am i cant find the place, not even with taxi-help! how hard could it be from soi 19 to find the place? so i go to pink panther to watch the thaiboxing at 23.00. well, a little fun but the girls is maybe what im there for. try to hook up with a girl but when she says she have a boyfriend my dick goes dead.
cheers!
