More on the "wifed up" thing, blah, blah.
Until we get more hot trip reports from such as Coolie High, I thought I'd bore the mongers again with an update on the relationship I have with my novia. Anyone contemplating something similar might find it interesting, in light of the recent changes in Sosua.
Been two years now. 2 weeks in November and a week in January, next a week in March and I have to say it's working well.
First time down there, I flew in and checked out the scene (what a scene!) before I took a small hotel near the action. Now, because it's really convenient, I get a Nolitours Air and AI package at the Casa Marina and bring in the novia. It's a good base, a vacation for the novia, and still relatively cheap, even we do most of our drinking in town, or we go away for a few days to her family.
Here's the deal. She knows a lot of the people who work (legitimately) in Sosua and a lot of the chicas who come in from Choromicas where she has one branch of ther family. She's obviously been active in Sosua in the past, but she's very family oriented and now her prime interest is with her first bambino in the States, her daughter and Mama and brothers in SD. She tells me I come third after her kids.
I know the families well, and I know she's not hooking, doesn't have a Dominicano boyfriend, and only comes to Sosua to meet me, then goes back with the Bambina to SD. I send her money, but less than I spend on say, cigarettes, so I supplement her income from doing hair, nails and other odd jobs she finds. I gave her an old laptop and she was pestering me to get a webcam so we could chat live. Eventually I did and I check in once in a while, unnanounced, and its always the same, she's at home with her bambina watching TV, or cooking and stuff.
A big relief to know she's not being gangbanged by Coolie and Savepro etc, while I'm up here freezing my ass off.
The biggest expense involved by far is my frequent trips to the DR, but that's for me, and being semi-retired, I'd be travelling anyway.
Last year she tried to get a visa to come visit me, but it took a while and didn't get it until November, and we get bad weather up here then, so she's coming in May. She's had my ticket money in her bank for almost a year, so credit to her for that.
In an earlier post, I boasted I'd never been ripped off in the DR, but credit goes to her 'cause she's scout, negotiator, planner, translator, and 24/7 wife all in one.
In the Don Andres bar a guy was talking about visas and I was mildly interested. He produced documents and said he was making money because his cousin was a supervisor at the Consulate in SD. He said he could get a Visa to the States in 2 weeks for 5 mil pesos, guaranteed. Now she'd been trying for months, but with one shake of her head, she told him to get lost. I said,"But babe, we were only talking" She laughed.
On the way back to the hotel, here was VisaMan being taken away by the politur. True story, and the look she gave me was priceless.
So, bottom line, I never really trusted her cause I met her in Sosua, but in two years there's never been an issue. She seems very happy with the trade we make and has included me in her family, especially with the older folks and the males, so there's a real comfort level and a relaxed happy vibe, that I've never found before with my previous relationships. She enjoys our time together, and I have a hard time getting a free couple hours in the afternoon to sniff around, unless its with her brother.
So my advice is try it, you might like it! Keep to an affordable budget, enjoy it for what it is, trust, but verify, and always be willing to walk away cold turkey if ever there's an issue. Its important for the chica to know that.
Can't wait for March.
Lifestyle Holiday Vacation Club. Crown Villas
USA Today had an article on page 4D today, January 21, about the resort. $28 / night!
SS
All I can say is that I've had nothing but positive experiences at LHVC. After I visited some mongering friends who were staying there, I was hooked! 6 bedroom villa, private pool, private cookout area and access to everything. The only time I noticed bracelets being checked was at the gate. I then stayed twice on my own (in a 3 br villa) with Manizales and 3 chicas. Again, no problems; full service, great customer service and access. Hotel workers were at our every beckon call. The last time I stayed there with a chica (or two) , I stayed in a junior suite, which was still awesome, though smaller accommodations. If I remember correctly, the 3 BR villa was like $6-700 dollars (which was split between the two of us) for 5 days or so plus $50 / day per person for the "all inclusive" fee. That's where it gets rough for those looking to bring in chicas. Either way, it was an acceptable cost overall for the great time we had. The thing is, you have to get the spot from an owner versus directly renting from the resort. Whatever membership level the owner has can be transferred to you (possibly minus a very few owner-only perks). This was probably 2-2. 5 years ago and we had access to everything (there were no more golf carts available, otherwise we would have had one of those). I'm just saying, if you're interested, do your own research and don't be discouraged by others; I really enjoyed the place!
