You are right, there ain't no good beaches on Sabang. What I used to do is hire a boat to take me and my lady to one of the many islands close by with a picnic basket and a chilled bottle of white wine. Take some beach blankets and tell the driver when to come back and pick you up. Lossa fun can be had alone on those isolated beach islands.

I might make another trip to Leyte. This time I'd like to do something new -- maybe Tacloban. Here is some of the info I've gathered so far. I would appreciate it if anyone can give me some tips.

Just looking at my paperwork from 2001. Stayed at Leyte Park Hotel and it was rundown then, plus far from town center. Hopefully they fixed it up. Hung out at the hotel's Veranda Cafe and picked up a waitress, name of Riza, maybe still there..she refused any $$$..we couldn't stay at the hotel, so I booked the Hotel Alejandro, Rm 309, for my next next trip. The Leyte Park was 2500p a night.

Must see - as long as you are there - the San Juanico Bridge, built for Imelda, I think, and the huge statue of MacArthur returning to P.I. is somewhere south of Tacloban. The bridge takes you to Samar, where all the Angeles City girls seem to come from. Not much night life when I was there, but this might have changed. And if you take the ferry, which I did once from Cebu, there is a rather dreadful bus ride from Ormoc to Tacloban. But it is cheap and you might get good company on the bus. Have fun!

Thanks Hawaii...LPH lists prices for renovated and not revovated rooms, so I guess they finally have their act together. I imagine that come high season (about now) all rooms have been renovated and prices will be high.

I'll look around a bit.

Don't mean to be rude, but I noticed about 20 years ago that the cutest working women in Luzon happen to be from Samar and Leyte and Mindanao.

My idea was to fly to Tacloban and then bus to Ormoc (a lovely city) and then ferry across to Cebu.

I stayed at Hotel Alejandro last august and loved it.
I will be there again during 26-27-28 december after my Subic exploration. The restaurant serves excellent breakfast. There's also an Italian restaurant nearby with a native Italian cook. Wonderful. The hotel is in town center.
I can't comment on nightlife as I just spend 1 night there, and I was hooked up. Next dec. 26, I will be back with two of my friends and explore the town by night. But according to a local, there are quite a few possibilities.

I love the girls in Sabang Beach, Puerto Galera. Sabang is a great small place with 6 bars, a disco, some nice small pubs, many good massage parlours, restaurants and great scuba diving. But I hate those guys at Batangas Pier who spoil the transfer. They hassle to get you tickets expecting to be paid for doing nothing, carry your luggage for unnecessarily high prices and hassle you to get you a car on the way back only to rip off the poor driver. So I am fighting back. Remove the hassle.

Get your own ticket, pay your own terminal fee and carry your own bags to the boat. You don’t have to pay the Porters despite what they tell you. The boat boys will put your luggage on the boat for free and I am quite happy to tip them. On the way back, I just had a good trip with a friendly driver in a nice new car and he charged a reasonable 2000 pesos from Batangas Pier to Makati and did not ask for extra money at the end of the trip. He also does trips Angeles City, Subic and Bagio City. His details are below, so cut out these scum sucking low lifes middle men at many of the ports around Phil and support the hard working people of Philippines.

As part of my ongoing research project on the world's best dive 'n' monger locales, I am planning a trip to Sabang.

Atlantis gets high marks on diving boards. Can anyone tell me if they are bar girl friendly? If they are not, perhaps you can recommend a nearby hotel that I can stay at while diving with Atlantis?

Tacloban is not the quaint comfortable place like Ormoc. I've had a few locals tell me it is now a 'highly-urbanized' city -- as if that is something to be proud of. Way too many trikes, but they generally are good mannered. Last night a few slowed down as I was walking and asked me if I wanted 'chicks'.

After my DIA freebie went home for the night, I decided to do some research.

Anyway, the bar/p4p area is around a large place called MV Schooner. It looks like a boat from the outside. There is a nautical theme on the inside as weel, including a fire axe up on the stage. Hmmm.

Tricycles in town cost P6, but I paid P20 to get out to MV Schooner. There are actually three paces that I saw, but I only went inside MV Schooner.

Entrance was P50, SML was P70. I was told the charges are 3000 barfine, 300 for first ladies drinks, 200 for the second (does that make any business sense at all).

There were about 12 ladies when I got there at 11pm, and my favorite disappeared almost immediately -- but I didn't see her leave. THere were a few chubby ones, but most were-quite acceptable. I couldn't see any stretch marks, but I'm sure most had children.

At first they danced in a group and then they singled up for dances, went thru the lineup and then back to group.

Girl would dance in bikini, or bikini -like attire for first song. Second song they would have see-thru something or another. Sometimes there was nothing underneath. Third song might be even more revealing, with several showing titties. No tush, although I imagine you could get a peak if you watched closely.

Sometime during their three song routine they would come out and ask someone if they could sit down. I guess that is bar policy, but I didn't know that at first and it caused me a bit of discomfort. I'm the only foreign guy in a place with 20 to 30 Filipino guys, mostly in large groups, and the first two dancers came up to me and asked me if they could sit with me. Hey, as if I don't stick out like a sore thumb already (with my plaid shorts and all). I didn't want any guys getting upset and chasing me around with the fire axe.

The third dancer starts walking toward me and I'm getting worried....but she walked right on by and asked someone else.

Well, certainly not nearly as exciting as EDSA, AC or Mango Ave, but there are dance bars in Tacloban.

Boracay Dec 16-21,

I just spent 5 nights in Boracay. Bringing girls back my hotel was not an option. I had to explore the short time rooms & girls scene. I focused my hunting around Station 2.

Cost for short time rooms varied between 300 to 700 peso. The 300 I would not recommend but it was behind Hey Jude's. 500 was behind the "Summer Place" and 700 was at the Bamboo Bar. Ok shower and clean was the case for 5 and 700.

Girls asking price usually started at 2000 but I paid in average around 1000 (700, 800, 800, 1200, and 1300). All girls on Boracay are freelancers, no bar fee/pimping from what I understood. The best place to pick girls are around Station 2 from Bamboo bar/place to D-mall, plenty of young girls inside bars like bamboo, summerplace, hey jude's, also just walk back and forth and within seconds you will be offered "Massage sir", 500 peso. Then start to negotiate on the extras.

I also checked Cocomangas out but it was the same girls I had seen at the Summer Place the nigth before and music was much louder, more stress, difficult to talk etc.

Another route from Ermita to Sabang, a little cheaper than the private car, is a combined bus-boat service offered by Si-Kat and Island Cruiser.

Si-Kat leaves from Citystate Tower Hotel and Island Cruiser from Lotus Garden Hotel both on A Mabini St. in Ermita. They leave around 8 a.m. arrive at the pier around 11, and arrive in Sabang around 12:30, and cost around 600-700p, or did a year ago. The price includes the ferry ride, but not the pier fee.

They have ticket agents inside the hotel. For the return ride, buy your tickets at the beach booth next to Eddies.

I've been in atlantis several times and have not had any major problems to stay there with girls.
Once or twice the a night guard has tried to ask something but I have just walked pass him without answering.
They have some rooms in beach house, which is even easier to access. I usually take room from that because of view and access.
Atlantis is only place to stay!!!
