This amount can certainly add up over the course of a trip when in the past there was no DR bank fee attached.

Absolutely no fees! from them, visa / mc or the Dominican Republic. If they do happen to squeeze some kind of fee past the goalie. They quickly reimburse you. Then hit a Banco Popular and go to town, 5000k plus a shot.. take out 10k a day til satisfied. I opened a few years ago with $500 and use this card religiously. I have used PayPal for years and the only charge was $1 USD charged by PayPal. Now all the DR banks (well at least in SD) want an additional $RD112. The only way to get around the fees would be to open an account in rep dom. For frequent visitors this isn't a bad idea.

If the bank charges you a gringo fee or tax. And it is not credited immediately. Keep the receipt and send to your customer service rep like the bank representative says and she will credit your account. Just like she quoted me. But I have NOT have had to go that route yet.

The new $RD112 is not really a gringo fee, it is universal. I have a rep dom bank account with a debit card. Even when I use a DR issued bank card I am charged this NEW $RD112 fee unless I use the card at the issuing bank.

I don't see what is wrong with a $RD150 ATM charge? That is a whole $4 US which we are paying day in / out in the states already. Even if it was more, what can it be, a whole extra buck more for vacation convenience?

Even if my bank did not rebate me my ATM costs I still would not complain. Anybody who really hates excessive ATM fees should sign up for a Schwab account and gain access to one of their ATM cards. No matter where you use it, the ATM fees are rebated.

At the same time not being able to find an ATM that gives out more than 2K pesos is just plain lame. They are all over the place! I have taken 10K out of both Banco Popular and Playero Supermercado with good consistency. I suggest more ground work after you touchdown. Only then will these piddly issues go away.

Banco Popular was my atm of choice for many trips mainly because it is conveniently located and well lit at night. I liked the new dispensing machines they installed this past year but recurring little problems have caused me to look elsewhere. The nail in the coffin was when the Banco Popular atm at LaSirena in Puerto Plata dinged me for 5000 pesos. Surprisingly, upon my arrival back home and speaking with my bank, I was reimbursed fully but it took 2 months. Another problem with Banco Popular is that it would not debit my account, instead it would do it as a cash advance on my credit card which incurred interest. Not a big deal but annoying. My new debit card with no credit card # attached to it yeilded no cash at all.

Now I use the atm at Banco Santa Cruz kitty corner to Super Super liquor store. It dispenses 10000 pesos no problem with a mix of crispy new bills. I am told by many that ScotiaBank is good as well. It is located a little past Europa hotel heading towards Passion's. Some days, however, ScotiaBank only dispensed 200 peso bills so quite a big wad of bills if withdrawing a large amount of cash.

Another poster mentioned that Banco Reservas does not charge the atm fee on cash withdrawls. Can anyone else confirm this? I believe there is a Banco Reservas atm just across from Super Super heading towards the strip. I will try it on my next trip and see what their daily limit is.

Ok, I am a little confused (but don't worry. I am not too bright and I confuse easy). I usually tend to lurk until I can find out the information (especially since I have nothing to contribute yet) but I do have some questions. You read one report and they talk about how great the new Sosua is. Then you read another report about how its gone to hell and all the hot chicks packed up and left. That all the chicas that are left all look like Alice the goon and you will only have a good time if you have a little black book of sosua. What do I believe? I have just been hearing so many conflicting reports that I am not sure. Worse case scenario I stay at my AI and drink presidentes everyday and pass out in the sun. I just don't want to get my hopes up to have them dashed.

I just booked a trip for the beginning of April. Since I am a newbie at this, and have never been to Sosua before and don't know what I missed (ignorance is bliss?) , I am having a hard time determining if I made a mistake or not. I speak no spanish and I am not a hardcore monger. I am going solo so no wingman either. Am I destined to be "super gringo" and be confined to passions, BB and cristals? Or do you think if I ventured off that path and hit up the bars like classicos that I would still have a good time?

Also I know most people have said the best way to set up a threesome is to pick one chica and let her pick the other. I am looking for a full threesome where they play with each other also. Before trips, transfer some travel money from your bank account to your PayPal account for free and never have to worry about using your bank debit card again.

1st: Do not I repeat do NOT change your plans to come to Sosua. You'll have a good time.

2nd: The reason that there are so many conflicting reports is cause of the OG's and the new comers. Now what I mean by that an OG has been coming to Soaua for plenty of years so the sudden drop off is going to be a shock. Which is rightfully understandable. Now a new comer or a monger that has been to DR plenty of times but doesn't really come to Sosua often when they come it's all good Cus they can't really tell the difference or they don't care cus there's still plenty of honeys it's just not as many as they use to be and it's not a free for all.

3rd: As far as a 3some I'm shooting blanks down there. Now don't get me wrong I've had happy hour plenty of times but having the honeys kiss and play with each other that's a different level I haven't rose to yet. On the last night of my most recent trip I was hanging at the small bar at New Garden about 10 pm when a guy I had met came back from a walk down the strip and he had panic in his eyes. He said there were only a handful of girls down there at most. I tried to explain to him that it was too early. I had two more beers and at about 11:30-12:00 I sauntered on down there and low and behold at Latino's I counted 30 girls and at Classico's about 75 girls. So take the advise that has been given here and take an afternoon nap and head to the scene LATE, there are plenty of girls in Sosua they just come late to avoid the majority of the hassles by the police which are earlier in the evening.

Nevertheless, online you can request a free 2nd debit card in your name or the name of your choice, which would in effect double both your daily ATM and spending limits.

Personally, the biggest annoyance with PayPal is that free money transfers from my bank account to my PayPal account take 3 - 5 business days. Nevertheless, that is how PayPal makes money, on the 3 - 5 day float.
