There are bars in Puerto Plata City that have less expensive chicas than Crystals. I have read that those bars can be hit or miss. Cabanas are short term room rentals, usually for 4 hours, prices vary at Cabanas. I have seen Cabanas advertise for 99 pesos. Nicer rooms at a better Cabana usually the rate is $20 US and up.

If you don't have a rental car, you will have to pay car taxis or take motoconchos (125cc motorcycle taxis).

As a newbie who may not speak Spanish, Crystals and El Bohen are probably the two easiest places, close to the All Inclusive Hotels located at Costa Dorada and Playa Dorada.

I visited Crystals, but I didn't take out. To me it was worth it to visit, to see the chicas they had. $100 US is about 3600 pesos. The cheapest short term price for p4p that you might be able to find is 500 pesos (about $13US). Usually a 500 peso chica will not be very attractive. Average short term price is about 1500 pesos. On a first time visit to Puerto Plata City, whether you can find an attractive chica for 1000-1500 pesos on your own, I don't know. Puerto Plata is a busy city. Driving around in a taxi to different bars and then to a cabana will cost you. Traveling around on a motorcycle taxi will cost you less, but it is not the most comfortable way to get around.

If you have a sense of adventure and don't mind the lack of certain niceties, then head off into Puerto Plata City in search of inexpensive p4p. Charles Pooter, the Man Tour Guy and other guys in the Puerto Plata thread have given the names of bars in Puerto Plata, where less expensive chicas can be found.

I don't know Puerto Plata that well to give you more precise info. When you get to Sosua the pay for play scene is much easier.

I think you will have a good time so relax and enjoy yourself. Do as you plan, relax in the sun and surf at the AI and take a few road trips for the chicas. You will get a lot of info here but you need to sort out what is best for you. As a rep dom newbie doing certain things will be a lot harder for you than a DR vet.

First off I would PM Sir Charles who lives in the Puerto Plata area full time. Sir Charles is always willing to help guys out. Second thing is the Man Tour. I have no personal experience with the Man Tour and probably never will. In your case the Man Tour may be ideal for you. Sure the Man Tour charges a fee but it may be well worth it. You might want to either hook up with Sir Charles or the Man Tour your first time away from the AI.

Sir Charles, if he is available can show you the Puerto Plata scene and get the Man Tour to show you Sosua.

Check out the prices in the supermarket for various sizes. You will be usually find that you pay double (and sometimes more than double) for double the size.

I think that this derives from the historical unreliablility of supply. They are not interested in making a quick buck at reduced profit because they don't know when they will get new stock.

My friend was let down by the wholesaler on refrescos for a large party so we went to the local colmado. He wanted to buy six crates, probably as much as they normally sold in a week but they wouldn't give him any discount. Not only that but they only had four crates and would only sell him three of them "otherwise we won't have any stock left for our regular customers".

Another factor is that many of these people are deeply innumerate. Haven't you noticed how they use calculators for simple calculations (like 5 times 20 pesos) which a five-year-old could do in their head in the US or UK? They can learn the various product prices off by heart but if you suggest a "deal" they are worried you are trying to scam them. After all, a fellow Dominican would!

I spend ALOT of time in Puerto Plata (spent about 22 of the past 30 months in POP) and tend to meet chicas such as a desk rep at Claro, waitresses at various restaurants, a bank teller, cashiers at supermarkets. I've hooked up with chicas from a few of the casetas on the malecon while just going down to chill and have a couple of beers. Been invited to cookouts at "the river" and took chicas home afterwards. So, for me, I meet chicas just during the normal course of a day.

This is because the girls there are from all over the island and living away from home, so they don't have the same problem of everyone knowing their business as the local girls in Sosua.

But here is another tip. If you ask around for a girl who likes to go with girls in Sosua, you may not get any takers right away. But don't be surprised if the next day some girl comes up to you and says that she has heard you like lesbian scenes and offers her services.
