As to getting an apartment, I did that 1 1/2 years ago, I just moved into a different place that I like better. If I knew that that was your advice, I certainly would have rethought the whole thing. But now that you mention it, there are a lot of tricky things to circumvent when renting an apartment and I'll write something about it in one of the other forums. Depending on your experiences in Cartagena you might consider doing the same.
