It's most natural for Thai ladies to behave according to their culture and not yours. They can try to behave according to your culture. Plus another reason is perhaps certain message parlors have good reason to not one want any one person to actually figure out the exact inventory (or lack thereof), as such knowledge might be bad for business.

In a gogo you are all for the same target, lurkers or not. In a BJ bar some customers might think lurkers can hide some perverts excited to watch and fantasise, sort of voyeurs. It's good for business, because a guy might see several women whom he likes and might plan to come back several times to do all of them. A guy can't want a lady he doesn't get to see. And there is no way a guy can get to see all of the ladies, unless he spends some time sitting around and perhaps does this on different days. Because some part-time ladies might work only on weekends and not on weekdays.

But not every massage place is good about letting guys check out their ladies at their leisure. Eden Club, for example, says on its website that you are supposed to take out the ladies there and not just sit around and oogle the ladies, unless it's your first time there. And I imagine that some of the less famous massage places are also like this. That's why they aren't famous. It's a wrong way of doing business.

Annie's mentions their fully stocked bar on the website. Dr BJ shows a picture of his bar on both his websites. The big soapies on Ratchada mention their bars and restaurants on their websites.
