Any ATM, actually, provided you use a DEBIT card and not the CREDIT card function (which adds 4% fee on top of all other fees you may have with debit card), is more convenient than a bank or exchange boot.

Thanks for any comments.[/QUOTE]Once again: NO UPPER CLASS HOTEL IN CARTAGENA (OR MEDELLIN) IS GIRL-FRIENDLY. Period. Colombians like sex and meet girls, but they don't take them to the hotel where they stay, and don't want to see others bringing guests.

Make a search here and there for posts (not only from me) elaborating widely on this topic and providing further information, pros, cons, lovel hotels, rented apartments, etc.

The only problem I had was with a Venezuelan who did not have a recent stamp on her passport, but I can't stand the stupid hours.

I had them come in as early as 10 am 7 or 8 pm & I'm pretty sure later than that would not have been a problem!

In the past we've rented condos from Mery and also managed to slip some girls into Hotel Dann. This time, we were hoping for a decent hotel experience (ie: Hyatt) but I guess that's not going to happen. However, one strategy we have used is for my GF and the chica to go up to the room by themselves and then I follow a bit later.

Some of my friends in Barranquilla want to go to Santa Marta so I'm looking at spending a few days there as well. I hear the beach is much nicer but since I'll be with them no monkey business hahaha.

The problem with apartments is they require registration for visitors, girlfriend or not. Hotels may just assume she's a local friend of your gf.

When staying in apartments in buildings that I know (Juan's apartments), having the girls produce their cedula and register has certainly benefited me. The building porteros I've come to know are good guys who look out for Juan's clients, especially if you're a personable, good guy yourself.

First, if she's Venezuelan she better have a recent stamp on her passport, or no registration for her. Secondly, you can register visitors yourself but if its an overnight visitor the renter (or apartment sales agent) needs to be physically there with you when you register her. That's a hassle in Cartagena where everyone is late and never shows up on time. The receptionists have been trained in the Palmetto buildings to do everything possible to discourage extranjeros from bringing women into the building.

Back when I was in Cartagena in January the sales guy who rented me the apartment even admitted there was new management who was making it difficult to bring guests back.

The upside is the Palmetto Beach and Palmetto Eliptic are both well maintained. No roaches or anything nasty. I'd love to find nice buildings by the beach without the shitty anti-sex tourist protocols in place.

They have a bad reputation (well-earned) in Cartagena. Apartment owners and admin are trying to discourage them from renting in their buildings by instituting these new rules.
