A good friend of mine was staying in HK with his wife, and took a quick trip to Shenzhen with business colleagues. I understand he paid for his sauna / massage services on his credit card. At 6:00am the next morning his bank rang him and asked him if the transaction was fraudulent. He had the phone on speakerphone and his wife heard the conversation!

The ANZ bank (Australia) looks for dubious credit card transactions, and checks suspicious ones by phone with the cardholder! This transaction was flagged as suspicious because the guy had never had any China transactions before. A good service, but embarrassing in this case!

So I went to the Nanjing Xi Lu Fake Market Spa a couple weeks ago, really had a good time with one of the girls there. Got her info. Sent her a message asking if she was working tomorrow, and she said she was taking some time off, but that I could come over to her apartment. Seems cool, though I'm not sure if she means she's "working from home" or if we will just be hanging out. Either way, my question is. Do you guys think this is safe? Or is this a common scam and will there be thugs waiting for me in her apartment asking me to give them all my money? I realize this varies greatly on a case-by-case basis, but just wondering if any of you have any horror stories of going to a massage girls' home.

If you get a fapio at a sauna you will notice that almost all of them (especially the ones discussed in this forum) will list the charge as a restaurant charge. This is for expensing reasons. So if your credit card calls, it is very unlikely that it will say something like "sauna sex services".

Anyway, if she can doyou at her apartment, she can make more money. She will charge you a little less and still make money. A win for both of you. I would think it would be ok unless other brothers have bad experiences. I would not carry any credit cards and limit the RMB on my to 1000 or so. (in case you both go out for lunch).

If she likes you and this is a "freebie" let me just warn you. Nothing gets more expensive than a freebie if you are not careful. You fall for the girl and she falls for your wallet."buy me this, buy me that." This goes on until you are broke or the bigger head smartens up. Don't ask me how I know.

I support SamCan's advice 100 %, in particular the point to carry only 1, 000 RMB cash and no credit cards. Better yet, split your cash and keep it partially in your wallet and partially elsewhere (pocket? Sock? Money belt?) , in the unlikely event that it is a scam (although I doubt if it is a scam).

Another idea is to keep your passport at your hotel and bring only a photocopy of the face page. The less you have on you, the less there is that can be stolen / lost.

When reading the comments about expensive freebies, I'm reminded of the famous story back in the 1990s when it was revealed that the younger, handsome movie star Charlie Sheen was paying hookers $1, 000 or more to have sex with him. When Charlie was asked why he was paying for sex when he could easily get it for free, his reply was "I don't pay the girls to have sex with me, I pay them to leave afterwards." Point well taken!

Nearly forty years ago I did this for about six months with a hostess at the New Latin Quarter inghtclub in Akasaka Mitsuke (Tokyo)! Then had to get to work by 9:00am! Not any more!

Refusal doesn't stop them; in another 6 months they will send you another text!
I had one like that who only stopped after 4 years when I told her I was married! And the only thing that I had ever bought her was some cheap clothing in Dongmen. I often quietly read the forum and wonder if I live in the same Shanghai as some other guys that post here. Posts about Manhattans, saunas and such all at hugely inflated Laowai prices. I speak reasonable Chinese and can get a 2 hour massage with hand job for 80 rmb with hot girls in 20's. If I want take out then I privately arrange with the girl for about 300 rmb. I live in Pudong and although there's not as much action as in Puxi, it is less pressured and easier to build a relationship with the girls. I chat on weixin in Chinese and had 4 freebies in a week until my regular girlfriend returned and I had to slow down.

My point gentlemen is that there is no great victory in screwing a hooker. The challenge is in my humble opinion with both the price and quality. It's difficult to get both together with seasoned international hookers and so I don't waste my time with them. The odd occasion when chatting to the girls at massage draws a blank is treated simply as free Chinese.

Think out the box!
