Of course they like $. They have to convert pesos back to $. (lose money in exchange) But in Mexico you don't pay the asking price for anything. (always been this way). So if you can get a chica to go (for your price) more likely you will save in pesos (IMHO).

It seems to me that if more guys refused the inflated demands the prices would drop. Unfortunately, that's not how tourists think.

Whenever the girls grouse about pesos, I simply tell them that we are in Mexico. In Mexico we use pesos. Therefore, I have pesos, not dollars.

First of all, the question "should I exchange dollars to pesos to save some money?" cannot be answered exactly, because it depends on many circumstances. I will break my thoughts into yes and no.

-No-

I would say that for first time mongers (or short-term mongering) , the exchange is not necessary because

1. You would not save too much for a (vaguely) short trip.

2. You are not familiar with the regular prices and the corresponding conversions

3. You would know exactly how much you pay when you deal with the familiar dollars

4. You don't have to be confused while carrying the coin pesos that waiters give out as change

5. If you use pesos, then you lose a bit of money if you exchange leftover pesos (assuming that your pocket isn't empty at the end) back to dollars

6. If you are down there with the purpose of blowing cash and getting wild without wanting to save a few bucks, then the exchange is NOT needed.

-Yes-

1. If you are familiar with the historical prices by mongering in Tijuana for quite some time, then negotiating the arriba prices in terms of pesos will save you at least a cost of your next beer.

2. If you know simple algebra (not the derivatives or the double triple integration area under the curve math) and if you like to check how much you have spent like me in between banging chicas, then there is no other greater feeling than the one you get from knowing that you saved a few bucks by using pesos.

3. When the exchange rate is really good (such as 13+ pesos to a dollar) , then you SHOULD use pesos because with simple algebra, you will notice a big difference in the savings.

4. This maybe only me, but psychologically it feels better to give the chicas "1000 pesos" instead of "80 dollars" because the number 1000 just seems nice compared to 80. Please don't taunt me for giving anyone 1000pesos. I only do that occasionally for my favs under circumstances. LOL.

5. Etc.

I hope my input above helps at least one person deciding whether or not to use pesos. For the veterans, please disregard this post because I know ya all know what you're doing.

In January of '09, according to CNN, the average price of gasoline was $1. 62 / gal, down 20 cents from December, '08 and down 47% from January, '08. And, yes Dubya was still prez.

If memory serves, my 2009 EVA Premium Economy ticket to BKK was about $900. This month it was $1700, almost double.

It takes all of 3 minutes to exchange $100 or $200 at the cambio. Even you aren't in the club or bed every minute of every day! :)

You won't be "overcharged" for anything. You may make a bit, you may lose a bit, when you use pesos in the clubs. The clubs watch the Peso. Ollar rate like hawks and adjust the prices accordingly. But often you'll save a buck or two at the hotel. The key is the girls. You start at 600 pesos and grudgingly come up to 700. If they don't like it, forget her. Next!

There was nothing better to do while I waited to recharge my batteries. I walked every street and went into every bar, counting all the visible girls. I didn't get lineups at the massage place, so they didn't get included in my total. I came up with slightly less than 300 girls. I have no idea how many I missed because they were arriba or in the bathroom or out of sight for whatever reason. I think that Rippa's estimate of 500 girls for an average week night is probably pretty close. It is hard to estimate how many are there on a busy night because the area is crowded with men.

There are so many options, there is no reason to overpay. Paying in pesos or dollars is just a matter of personal choice. It doesn't really matter who exchanges the money.
