5 Days in PP - 17 to 22 Dec
Arrived from SG by around 1 pm. Cruised through immigration, baggage claim, SIM card (Metfone for $5, unlimited internet). Booked a Passapp ride to the Point Boutique Hotel on Street 130, checked-in and settled in by 2 pm. Let the games begin.
As I mentioned in some previous posts, killing time in the afternoons in PP (if you are not into art, literature, religion and such noble pursuits) can be challenging or unhealthy (you could sit and drink! So I usually call in some tried and tested girls from my roster to keep company in the sweltering heat till it is conducive to step out in the open. Of course, the occasional walk to the massage shop, or the laundry or a restaurant should be discounted.
So, every afternoon I had one girl from a reliable list I have built up over time. Of course, this time I had the pleasure of meeting 3 other BMs on ground, and we had an absolute blast together. Thanks guys, you know who you are! Now on to the reporting.
For food, here are my picks:
1. O La La on St 136 still has a good menu and though the prices are a tad on the higher side, I find the quality of food quite good.
2. Harry's is great for the specials. Beer is cheap at $1 and it is a great place to watch sports of any kind. The Khmer food at Harry's is terrible though.
3. On the Corner near St 130 (the original) is absolutely fantastic, but the time they take to serve food can be a buzzkill, especially when you are famished.
4. On the Corner 2 near St 144 is also good, and I think they have the most comprehensive menu in that part of town.
5. If you like Asian far, Noodle House on the corner of St 136 and St 5 is fantastic.
6. If you prefer high end cuisine, head to the Independence Monument area; several places there. I visited Ngon and Malis. Google for location. Both are remarkable. Ngon is not really expensive either.
7. If you like craft beer and good bunch of sides / mains / BBQ head to Botanico on St 29 near Independence Monument. Highly recommended.
Now for the bars:
1. Street 136 still rules the roost for being the busiest street for hobbyists. Bars to note are Alaska, Tokyo, Xanadu. Bars to give a pass are all others. I think I saw some of the worst lookers at Pussycat, Sweet Lemon and 69 Bar. Some other bars like I Get You, Sahara, Route 136, Tiger, etc. Have at least 1 decent looking girl, but that is about it. Zero choice. Military Bar is the best place to play pool, don't expect girls here.
2. Street 130 is next on the list. Angry Birds, Intoxica, Honeypot, Dragonfly, Loco, Splash, Blue Bird and OneThreeSix are all quite good. On a couple of nights there was no place to sit at Angry Birds and Intoxica.
3. Street 5 is the biggest loser on this list. We must have peeked into at least a dozen or so bars here. Found one bar with a couple of decent girls. There is one place with twins working in the same bar. Could be interesting.
4. Street 118 and Street 110 are completely passable.
5. Street 104 is no better or worse off than my last visit. Airforce was fantastic on all 3 nights I visited. Boss Bar, OneZeroFour, Top Ten, Nana Bar, Marine Bar all have decent talent, but nothing outstanding.
6. There were a gaggle of other bars we peeked into around the St 172, St 178 and St 51 areas. Nothing to really write home about, except for a totally non-descript bar on St 178, next to Royal Sarowan Hotel, just before hitting Norodom Blvd if approaching from the Riverside. The bar has no name. There are probably half a dozen girls here, most of them a bit mature but very well put together and fairly smart. If you are an older gent looking for some company along with some fun, this might be a good place to poke around.
Other places:
1. Among clubs Pontoon is still alive and kicking. Went there 2 nights, returned with a prize on one of the nights. Among the best picks of this trip.
2. Places like DOS and Paradise were closed, maybe we got there late - 1 am on Thursday.
3. Casa Nightclub & KTV near what Phnom is shut down for good.
4. Wanted to visit Soul Golden KTV, but could not find the time.
5. Did not visit Darlin Darlin this time.
6. The KTVs on Street 118 are a waste of time.
My Hotel:
I will never stay again at Point Boutique. The fridge in the room kept stopping, the aircon takes forever to cool, the balcony is an apology and cannot accommodate a single grown man, the water supply was cut off on one day without warning, etc. Too many fuckups to given them a second chance. No problems, plenty of other places offering better value for the money I paid there. $40 a night.
So that is it. I hope it makes for informative reading for all you fine folks. Keep going!
