Well do your homework and read reports in last 6 months and you will have a pretty good indication how it all is in Angeles. The major difference from Philippines verse Thailand is that in the Philippines the girls are more girlfriend related where they try to get you hook to support them after you leave. Some want to come to USA and generally you are there ticket out of the third world country. Its a different kind of game here cuz in Thailand the girls don't want to leave There country and they just want your money! How far away from Fields Ave and all the action is the SM Mall and is it really worth going to?

Does AC have a curfew for their bars like Bangkok now has or are the bars and clubs more or less open 24/7?

I notice that every once in a while mongers complain that the Japanese and Koreans are jacking up expectations by giving big tips. I feel your pain, but I can't exactly agree that they're stupid.

I have to argue that it's a cultural and societal thing. Most of the Asian mongers are married, and Asians have much shorter vacations. Often just one full week a year, taken with the wife, and then a couple of three or four-day "secret" vacations with other mongers. So the time they spend in Angeles is their one big opportunity to enjoy life and feel like a million bucks.

An easy way to feel good is to give a big tip. A big tip being anything above US$20 or 1, 000 pesos. Since prostitution isn't common or even legal in most Western countries, you Westerns might not realize it, but P4P is prevalent, but incredibly expensive in Japan and Korea. Even a 15-minute quickie in Seoul, where I live, costs US$70 these days. However, the more common experience is a Karaoke-type establishment where just for the company and alcohol a group of 4 guys usually end up playing US$1, 000 (not a typo). And that's before the sex.

Sex, one time, no stay over, will cost several hundred US dollars. Tipping is not common in Asia, but if they were to tip one of these girls, even US$50 wouldn't make much of a difference to them.

And of course, everything else in Japan or Korea can be light years more expensive than in the good ole US. A decent (not impressive) date with dinner, drinks, and a movie for two, will easily run US$100-150. With US$50 or 60 tacked on for the two-hour stay at the love motel.

In other words, a US$20 tip to a hot Filipina whom you barfined for US$25-30 for the whole night is absolutely no big deal on your one or two wild trips a year.

I explain this because I feel it is a source of continual, although low-level, tension between Westerners and Asians. I'm just hoping to clear the air a bit.

Ironically, Americans who come from a country where tipping is mandatory, complain about large trips given by men from countries where tipping is not common.

Think of it this way. Since Japan and Korea don't have tipping cultures, and they have so little personal direct contact with other cultures, they have no idea how outsized their tips are, that it can cause problems for other mongers, or that there's anything wrong with it.

All of that said, it's pretty easy to avoid too many problems. Filipinas know Japanese and Korean are the big tippers. They don't really expect such large tips from foreigners on a regular basis. They're just using their previous large tips as pressure, in the hopes of another big tip. Also, the girls are generally young and ignorant, so they don't understand the huge difference in culture between Western and Eastern.

So when a Filipina asks you for a big tip, mentioning how her Japanese boyfriend gives her 2, 000 pesos each time he visits her, just say, "Well, I'm American, and I'm different. " It never feels quite good, but life is a series of compromises, and you can't really blame a girl from trying, can you?

And take pity on me, since I'm American, but also Korean. I expect to tip American, but I'm expected to tip Korean.

You can go to the ATMs in SM ...they are reliable. Take out what you need for a few days. The mall is about a 10 minute walk from check-point(Field Ave.)

Bring cash with you....do not change too much at the airport (rate is lower). Go to Normas and change your money. Put your money, passport and valuables in the hotel safe.

No curfew on bars , normally open 6pm-3am/7pm-4am mainly Field Ave. The Perimeter bars open earlier.

As you are going in the low/rainy season you can negotiate with the hotels regarding room rates. There are many girls, you just have a problem of deciding which one to go with.

If you read the posts carefully (#777, #782)--there is mention of one person who paid a tip of 200 Euros after being with the girl for one week. No one mentions Koreans or Japanese as being stupid.

No one is against tipping as it is up to the customer. However, giving a girl 200 Euros after one week would be (IMHO) a little excessive.

When you mention Japan/Korea and customs in those countries regarding regarding mongering and tipping and then talk of AC, you are comparing apples with oranges.

There are ATM's, just not right in the Fields bar area. There are ATM's say 6 blocks away. Also, the mall has ATM's also. The mall is say 3/10ths of a mile from Fields and it is clearly visable from Checkpoint (like a jeepnet station). I don't think anyone here cares whether a Mall is "worth going to" and I am not doing mall reviews this week.

Dollhouse is the only bar, as far as I know, that stays open 24/7.

Just go, man. You are getting a little too analytical. Everything is relatively close. 110 bars and 1000+ girls, the rest is of little importance.
