Kurenda yes, now I remember I read somewhere Samara has a good aeronautical aerospace university and close to shopping center, I saw even an old space ship or satellit, look to the photo here and you know what I mean :)

Thanks for share the story of 2 brazilian girls, you was really lucky, or very good :) cause the chance to score brazilian girls so close to Sibir were almost zero and it reminds me, one more time, that sometimes if you are in the right place at the right moment, you can get something unforgettable ;)

And it is always successfull and quite easy to open doors, once you stop to be a turist and you get in touch with ordinary people, students and so on and not only with girls that party at the night in the clubs.

This is what I regret, I was there not enough time to start to live as one of them with the positive thing that as foreigner in not turistic city in the provincies, you still means something "interesting" for the girls :)

Brazilian girls in Samara was a pure luck and I happened to be at the right place at the right time.

But last year I travelled by train from Moscow to Irkutsk and I shared coupe with brazilian guy from Sao Paolo, his name was Oswaldo. He told me he works fro brazilan company which imports aluminum from russian company Rusal (they are located in Siberia). This brazilian company is located in Vladivostok because they ship aluminum by sea and they have their offices there. The guy told me they have about 150 employees and about half of them are from Brazil including women also. So I guess there must be few of the hot brazilian chicks there. But I don't have more details.

In Samara I even hooked up with few imported french speaking girls. There is a french high school in Samara called "Alianze franceze" or something like that. They have teachers from french speaking countries (France, Belgium and Switzerland. I met 4 of them (two from France, and one each from Belgium and Switzerland) in Polet club where they were regulars getting drunk on those cheap drinks. And it was great in any way possible because it was a summer and they decided to stay in Samara. To practice russian but their knowledge was next to none. I didn't mind it since one of the french girls let me stay in her apartment for a whole month together with her of course.

Now somebody might ask what the hell they were in Sara of all places? Simple they applied with russian government to be teachers in those french schools. And they were hoping they will go to Moscow or St. Petersburg. But russian government gave them the list of 5 cities (total privinces) to choose one fo them or they will not work. So they choose Samara becuase as I was explained Samara was the biggest of them (and they thought becuase of the size Samara is great place) and also becuase Samara is no the river. But in Russia most cities are on the river.

Sorry for mistake Kurenda, I was told it is a piece from spaceship or satellit from the owner of the flat and so far it looks strange and so big, I believed him.

Alliance Francaise is not only a french high school. It's an organization whose mission is to promote french language and culture outside France. Its primary concern is teaching french as a second language and organizing cultural events. There's about 1150 locations in 130 different countries. In a place like Brasil, which is keen on french culture, there's some 80 Alliances throughout the country (six only in Rio de Janeiro!) ...when I used to travel extensively there, Alliances Francaises were among my favorite hunting grounds ... there was always plenty of meninas eager to talk with a cosmopolitan french traveller. :)

Anyhow Russian elites have always been exceedingly "francophile", so I'm not surprised that there's a significant number of Alliances in Russia.

Not literally, but going to KAZAN soon and not a single post about the city.

Proposal it's simple for me. I don't stay in hotels and I don't rent apartments.
I know a lots of people in Russia (some for many years) in many cities, and I always stay with them. Meaning I'm sleeping in their apartments and eat at their tables.
So about apartment rentals try internet search, but for Novosibirsk I know about this which may help.

Thanks for the link. It seems it isn't easy to find apartment rentals in provincial Russia.

Last year I made an internet search for Krasnodar and couldn't find nothing, which was the reason why I chosed Tashkent, where arranging apartments is very easy.

In great majority of provincial places in Russia no matter how big they are it's tricky to find appartment for a short term stay.

The reason is simple. In each town there is usally some big hotel with certain comfort and quality and there are people behind this hotel. Owners/investitors who are usually local oligarchs, meyer, gubernator, etc.

And their opinion is that anybody coming to their city (especially foreigners) MUST stay in their hotel and leave the money. NOT in some other place. So if there is agency provinding apartment rental this people will do everything to kill the competition. This include arson of offices and apartments, threats, physicall attacks, anything you can imagine. Most usually they are very successfull in their attempts to remove accomodation competition (and any other of course).

It is possible that I will have to go to Anadyr in Chukotka, one of the points furtherest east (north east) in Russia, and a little town of 11,000 for a few days. Anybody know anything about mongering there? It seems likely to be pretty barren, given the small population and isolation. But at least Mamba has some listings for it, although some of those appear fake/phishing. The upside is that racially it seems diverse - i.e. has a lot of Russians, rather than just Inuit/Chukchi.

How about getting there? I recall a discussion here recently about the lack of western flights from the US to Russia - does everything really have to start in Moscow?
Hell, you can almost walk to Alaska from there!

Some flights I found looked to come direct from Moscow and others routed through Khabarovsk - anyone know that city?
At least with a population of 500,000 it must have some mongering available...

Sure, you will find very few places with English-language advertisements or web pages, but in every town you can find apartments (even in small towns I've been in with 100,000 or fewer people). Usually there will be agency numbers to call for apartments posted at the train station. In bigger towns there will be babushki at the train station too asking for renters. If all else fails go to a kiosk and ask for the paper "iz ruk v ruki" which has local versions for almost all towns and in the classifieds you will find apartments for rent.

Latexian you are right about what you said.

But only if you have russian knowledge.

For a foreigner not speaking russian it will not be easy to get apartment in provincial Russia uless having some local support.

GT I've been to Anadyr three times. Every time with military plane.

The only way to go there is by plane from Moscow to Petropavlovsk Kamchatski.

And from there you can get local small plane, boat or by road.

OK no real road but any direction where off road truck can go.

Or from some city on the east russian coast like Khabarovsk or Vladivostok using local airline.

Anadyr is basically military town bulid to serve soviet airforce base named Ugolny. This base was closed some 10 years ago and all military personel and their families are mostly gone. 11 000 population? In my opinion much less maybe 2000-3000 less.

The alternative way to go there is by cargo ship from Alaska. They come and go. Main cargo being vodka. I was at Anadyr airport back in 1997 when Il-76 cargo plane crashed there and everybody run to save the precious cargo - 40 000 bottles of vodka.

Mongering in Andayr? That would be interesting since great majority of population there seem to be male. They for sure have some local skanks.

Each time I was in Anadyr it was during winter so it was cold and dark.

I went to few drinking holes with locals and they showed me few "pros" but they all were of the type not even for free and touch her only with long pole.

But stranger things happen in life so it can be possible to sponsor a girl there. But keep in mind the place is so small and isolated that everybody will know some foreigner arrived. This can be both good and bad. Two times in Andyr they tried to rob me but I offered them my watch and they run away.

Khabarovsk is large city on Amur river but it seems they have tight control because of the large military industrial complex there and also because of the space center being build there. Not many people know about this city even Havier Solana on his recent meeting with Medved didn't know where he was so president Medvedev gave him map of Russian for next time. Sure there can be some mongering availalbe. But when I was in Khabarovsk I was amazed with huge numbers of chinese sw so many of them that police was loading them in truck and sending them over the border. Their price was very low since most of them wanted money to spend in local casinos.

I've never been to Khabarovsk, but roughly 90% of the Russian working girls I met in Asia were from there. Not only were they too embarrassed to ply their trade in their home town, but they also said they could make far more money outside Russia. I could believe this for Japan and Korea, as both have sky-high p4p prices, but didn't expect it for China, where p4p is roughly half the price it is here in Moscow.
