" Nonetheless, the melting pot claim came to fruition as America established citizenship by birthright, just soli. Most of the Western hemisphere / Americas did follow suit but it remains a foreign concept in most of the old world.

There are many Americans who retain the old world point of view but I relegate them to a dying perspective. But a pet peeve of mine is when immigrants who obtain American citizenship themselves still don't refer to themselves as American. The American mindset is clear though. Various people with European backgrounds have become automatically accepted as American (Not the case with Europeans in other European countries). Black Americans are also unquestioned. People of Hispanic origin are increasingly becoming American first as their numbers grow. Asians have a bit further to go and they are often their own worst enemies in this process.

That is the reasons for the architecture with columns on monuments and colonial homes. They gave their pets Roman names. It was taught at the Universities, etc. They got the idea of democracy from Plato and Aristotle. They brought over University professors over from Scotland to teach it. I stand corrected. I can see how people consider it an experiment.

Thus the freeing of the slaves lead to an invasion of pregnant Mexicans crossing the border to have one of their kids born as a US citizen in order to make it easier for the rest of their family or to have the US born kid send money back to Mexico when he became old enough to work.
