For Maison Gautreaux you could tell taxi drivers "cerca V Centenario hotel". You could even have them drop you off at the V Centenario and walk the half block to the Maison Gautreaux hotel (when you don't have luggage). When I stayed at the Maison Gautreaux hotel and invited women to visit me, I would tell them to meet me at the Intercontinental V Centenario hotel, it is a much easier place for them to find, than a small hotel. Intercontinental has a lobby bar and a casino.

You could look at BoricuaOnline's SDQ monger to get an idea where different places are located. One block west of the street where Maison Gautreaux hotel is located is Avenida Pasteur, where 4 casas are located (a five minute walk from Maison Gautreaux). You can buy a SIM card at the SDQ airport for $5US (Claro takes US dollars at the SDQ airport) or 150 pesos (around $4US) , they will ask to see your passport when you buy a SIM card. Afterwards you add minutes by buying calling cards and entering the code on the back of the card or there are several companies online, whereby you can add minutes with a debit or credit card. Free wifi on the first floor of the SDQ airport near Pizzarela restaurant.

Always ask the price before using any taxi, taxi fares usually around 150 pesos (apolo taxi is a reputable taxi company; 809-537-0000). When calling the States with a Claro cell from Santo Domingo, I usually have to have the 1 in front of the area code (1-212-555-1212). For local calls sometimes the call will not go through if I have 1 in front of the area code (809, 829 are two area codes in the DR).

There is an ATM machine to withdraw cash in the lobby of the V Centenario hotel (also banks and ATM machines at the SDQ airport) and you can ask a cashier in the casino to give you smaller denomination bills for a large denomination bill. With most of the ATMs, I usually use Spanish as the transaction language (in the past some ATM machines would not give cash when English was chosen as the transaction language).

Always pay SWs and freelancers after the deed. Casa chicas you pay the house first (if you have a problem with a casa chica, go back to the casa and complain). Hotel Maison Gautreaux has digital safes in all rooms.
