Moving to San Diego might be expensive. Tijuana is not. I knew a manager at a San Diego McDonalds. The more you are able to talk about movies and events to the chicas in Spanish, the better you will do with them. Remember, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. I. e. Dress and look like an upper class Mexican as much as possible in long sleeved shirt, pants, and boots. Look around Tijuana and copy the classy looking locals, without looking rich (no Rolexes and other mugger bait).

Living in Tijuana but working at a McDonalds in the states as a career LOL. My issue is that I need to live somewhere in the states for work. San Diego is as close as it gets and honestly money will not be a problem for me, need to have plenty of money if I want to go to Tijuana frequently right. And yes I agree eventually I will need to learn Spanish. Will go through some online courses and after spending so much time in Mexico I think it will be enough to fluently pick it up. For clothes how is black slacks, v-neck shirt, and boots? I don't wear watches or expensive shet to be honest.

Between San Diego and San Ysidro you have the municipalities of Imperial Beach, Chula Vista & National City. Chula Vista is the seventh largest city in Southern California.

That's just not close to true. They do not need to see a gringo twice to know what they are there for. And if you are there for the chicas they know you have money. There are plenty of "regular" visitors on this board that go there every weekend without anything significant occurring.

Probably true. If you go every weekend after a few months you will be recognized as a regular.

This statement is so patently false I begin to wonder if the OP has ever even been to Tijuana and Zona Norte. Gringos are literally everywhere. Chinos and Mexicans with lesser numbers of Black and Middle Eastern mongers. Mongering has an international appeal that transcends cultural and socio-economic boundaries. You will definitely notice this fact during your visits to Zona Norte.

The gloom and doom reports from a poster about security risks in Tijuana are inaccurate and way too pessimistic.

I have been going to Tijuana almost every weekend for 18 years and have not been robbed, threatened or had anything stolen from me, ever. I used to park in the US and walked / cabbed over, but in the past few years driving over and back with SENTRI / GE has been far quicker and safer. I got stopped a few times by policias, but they could never steal anything from me. Just hold your wallet and all cash / valuables in your hands while they search and they could do nothing.

Remember due to their crime situations, Mexican policias operates under different rules than the US. They can stop people and cars for search if they have their probable causes. They stop a lot of California cars because Mexicans would drive with expired US registrations to avoid Mexico's taxes. I have seen them check registrations and quickly let cars go within 1 minutes without searches.

As long as you exercise caution like in any big cities in the US, don't get falling-down drunk on the streets and don't get cornered in dead-end alleys, rateros won't be able to rob you.

Girls in La Zona are mostly good and honest. Club girls' standard service include CBJ and sex in many positions. Only a few would do DFK, DATY or BBFS if they know the guys. With street girls you need to spell the deals out in details. If you leave out any services, they may be tempted to ask for more money in the room.

People outside of La Zona are mostly nice, warm, good, honest, helpful, dignified, more so than people in big US cities.

I've been going to Zone Norte for more than 10 years, left the scene for two years and then came back, the girls will recognize you if they see you with their friends and obviously if you enjoy their company and keep repeating, most will tell their friends to go and take a ficha from you. The Captain was spot on with that post. Don't be blind to the risks. And anything is possible. I take the doom and gloomers at face value. They speak to their experiences and maybe I'd feel that same way.

There is no doubt in my mind that in general, Mexicans would like to separate me from my greenbacks. But I also believe most would do that by legitiimate means. Speaking for myself, there is no doubt in my mind that they don't love me for my looks. They want my money. But they offer goods, or in the best cases, services! LOL.

I will say this. I find Mexicans that I've met to be honest, hard working, good people. Proud. Would they love to sell me a trinket? Of course. But as someone who only visits every few months, I've become very familiar with many vendors on Revolucion. They are generally good people. I have very friendly conversations with several of them each day I'm there. I mention this only to say that you always need to be aware and be cautious. But I also think you don't need to be a standoffish jerk. There is a fine line there. But going about life thinking everyone is trying to rip you off is miserable. If I felt that way, I would not return!
