It is a great place to come and yes I would recormend it to all my frends.But like everywhere you have to play nice and think before you act.

I had lots of fun there and met some nice locals.Just be yourself you can get whatever you want here just remember you gotta prove nothing.They all look at us like movie stars and that's the fact jack.

i am curious if you know more about the case than the public does, or whether you just assume our soldiers are innocent. i urge you to read up on the conduct of us forces in iraq (including the recent [url=http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord123][CodeWord123][/url] and killing of the 15 yo iraqi girl and her parents and 7 year old sister) before passing judgment. or the okinawa incidents that have caused so much hatred (and local pressure on tokyo to ask us to leave). or, going back a bit further, the my lai massacre in vietnam.

if you do have inside information about the case, then i apologize for presuming your reasons for exonerating the soldiers, but i hope you base your judgment on more than merely the status of victim and accused (filipina bargirl vs. us soldiers).

it's extremely difficult to get an accurate picture of the case from the local media here. the only "facts" on which anyone seems to agree is that she was drinking with these guys and got into their van willingly. after that, it's anyone's guess what happened. however, all of the ingredients for disaster were present: young horny guys, plenty of whisky, lovely and available women, and a socio-political atmosphere that makes it easy and tempting to make accusations. i have no idea what actually happened, but i sense from the sensationalism in the papers, that this is not going to come ot well for the american servicemen because a "not guilty" verdict would reinforce that public perception that americans still control the country. the saddest thing for me is that these guys probably are not getting a fair trial.

i don't know if they're guilty of anything but stupidity and bad judgment, or if they actually raped the young women and i don't think anyone will ever know.my best guess is that they will be found guilty and that some kind of a deal will be struck and ultimately, they will wind up back in the states as i doubt seriously that the us military would permit any of its soldiers to spend any time in a prison in the philippines. in a sense, this case speaks to the frailty of a viable "rule of law" here, where virtually all controversial cases become the fodder for media circuses and where the judicial system itself is so corrupt.

on the other hand, the filipino paranoia about american hegemony is not entirely unfounded. for example, about two years ago in davao, an american man checked into a small hotel in the city. he attempted to build some sort of explosive device, made some mistakes in its construction, and blew off one of his own legs and destroyed part of the hotel. these facts do not appear to be in dispute. despite the facts however, "agents of the us government" were allowed to spirit this guy out of the country, thereby circumventing philippines law. the mayor of davao was justifiably furious, and asked whether, had the situation been reversed. filipino authorities would have been permitted to spirit a felon out of the us. there's no doubt at all that this happened, and it merely added to the often ridiculous paranoia about the "power" of the us in the pi.

in a perfect world, the american soliders would be judged impartially, on the basis of evidence, and a fair judgment would be rendered. this ain't gonna happen here, and their guilt or innocence appears less important to the outcome than does the preservation of philippines honor.

Hello friends, I haven't used the philippines thread for a while.

There have been some very angry posts in the Photo Gallery about going bareback, I guess all of you have seen them. Since I don't contribute pictures I'll post my commentary here.

Viral and bacterial infections ARE a very serious problem and we should do what we can to avoid them, and to avoid spreading them.

Attacking other members who say they go bareback is not nice and will not prevent them from doing so. They will either keep their barebacking behaviour a secret or they will attack you back, calling you a "religious fundamentalist" or a "preacher" or something of the kind. Your self-righteous attitude will be viewed with contempt.

So the best we can do is educate ourselves and each other, without getting into fighting words.

For example, I recently heard that 3 to 4 million people now die each year from HIV, resulting in 10 million new orphans every year. Don't know how accurate that is, but yes, a very serious international health problem.

If you like barebacking please don't give me an angry reply, I'm not telling you not to. What you do is your business! But I think the wise thing to do is to avoid the temptation and always wear a condom.

If you have AOL you can log in and then go to the site.The other option (that I use when traveling) is "eatmoreblueberries" dot com. It is a proxie server. You can then put the url of any site in the box on the site and viola, your in!

I purchase a Global sim card last dec at Harrison plaza at Malate cost is around 6 usd with 50 free text you can reload min 50 peso at a time if you
don't used the sim card for a 4 month period it will be terminated but not sure
if you can buy a new sim and keep the number .

If they resell your number you can't get it back. Sometimes even though it was expired it has not been reused so they will give it to you. Just go check it out when you get there.

to add to the drama, the prosecution's "star" witness (who had recanted his [url=http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord123][CodeWord123][/url] testimony) yesterday refused to testify in court, claiming his right not to incriminate himself. the [url=http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord123][CodeWord123][/url] victim had tried, unsuccessfully, to have the van driver included in the list of defendents, claiming him as a participant in the whole sordid affair.

remember, that the philippines does not have a jury system, and all cases are tried by judges alone, who are solely responsible for determining guilt or innocence.this makes the outcome of trials more subject to political/public pressure than might be the case elsewhere. i have no idea what the outcome of the trial may be, but given the propensity here to endlessly appeal every verdict, and given the huge hierarchy of courts in which appeals may be lodged, the whole thing may drag on for years.
