Sorry guys for being a bit off topic but I need to unlock a SAMSUNG phone. I am in Bangkok presently and was quoted 700 baht at a stall in The Tunnel next to the Bier Garden. I want to know if this is a reasonable price and also what price can I successfully bargain down to, 500 baht maybe?
or maybe I can get a better deal in Pattaya, where I will be after Christmas?

Way too much, I think 4th floor MBK is the cell phone area that I went to. Hundreds of stalls that will all unlock phones. I did not do samsung but other brands so that might affect price but I was way way under that price. I'd hop the BTS before you pay that.
The same cell phone shop in the tunnel next to the Biergarten on Soi 7 unlocked a buddy of mine's Nokia phone for 500 around 3 weeks ago. I told him that I was sure he could get it done for 350 or so if he shopped around - such as at MBK. But realistically, 150 baht is $4.50 and he decided that it wasn't worth his time and effort to save under $5. But even at a local, conveniently located place, you shouldn't pay more than 500 baht.

Samsung is much more expensive than nokia, however trying to save 200THB sound a bit desperate for a one-time-investment as this.

Heading to thailand on the 23rd. Didn't even know about the election/alcohol ban until after I decided to go, bought tickets and perused this site. Good to know.
My question is regarding the cell phones. I have an LG Chocolate. If I bring my phone with me can it be unlocked, used in Thailand and then brought back to the U.S. and used again without further modifications or would it need to be worked on again when I come back? Thanks.

If you happen to use T-Mobile in the U. S. And have had a plan with them for at least 60 days, they will unlock the phone for you free of charge. T-Mobile told me that I can now install prepaid SIM cards overseas (no problem) and just put my T-Mobile one back in if/as needed (for example, to use the WiFi service I have. With free international calls! ). I haven't tried it yet, but will when I arrive in Bangkok next week.
If you use Verizon, I don't believe they will unlock their phones. You would have to find someone else who knows how to do it. Not sure about other carriers. Hopefully, others on the board have additional insight.

Angels Disco has been dying a slow death for a few years now. The place used to be Freelancer Heaven a few years back but the managers have done their best to kill it off with astonishingly stupid pricing as they tested the elasticity of demand and snapped it. They kept moving up the entry fee until they hit 400 baht and basically a large pct. of guys just stopped going. That's almost the price of a bar fine. Drinks aren't cheap either - 200 baht for a beer. So why not just go to a go go bar instead and pull out a girl. But with the guys not going - and it again amazes me that the manager is so shortsighted that he doesn't see loads of guys walk up every night - see the price to get in and walk away - the girls stopped coming and that made even fewer guys come and so on - till now most nights are pretty dead - though Friday night still is pretty good.
Many of the girls I know from a few years ago now work at the CM2 Disco or at Conrad's Disco - or they wait till the late night discos get going. They also tend to get paid much more at these places they tell me - often 3000 baht for ST. So for the most part the few girls who still go to Nana aren't the best looking (though they do get some cuties from time to time) or they can't afford the entry fee that they get charged at the other 2 discos. Recently the managers have slowly started trying to rev it up again by allowing hotel guests to get in free - which is when I started going back again - but this hasn't helped much yet. What they have to do is lower the entry fee to free - they would get so much more money through people buying drinks then they do now from entry fees. And training the staff to be somewhat polite would not be a bad thing either - rudest damn girls of any place I go.
But this also brings up an issue that I discuss with friends but no one really has an answer - where have all the good looking freelancers gone? A few years ago the Nana Disco was packed, the Nana parking lot was packed, Thermae was packed, the Beer Garden was packed, Sukhumvit was packed, the Grace was packed. None of these places are that great any more - so where did they go? Nobody seems to know - are there just a lot fewer girls in the biz than there was five years ago? Or are they so spread out now?

IMHO, the quality at the Biergarten during the 1st half of December was noticeably better than I can remember it being during the past few years. Admittedly, the caliber of freelancers on Sukhumvit and the Nana Car Park has declined noticeably during this same time.
I would also observe that I felt that the ratio of providers to customers was higher in Pattaya this past week than I can ever remember it being in what is supposedly peak season. I had heard the talk about the beach road being cleared out of freelancers, but I did not experience this, and found two absolutely delightful, adorable FLs on Beach road, each of whom I repeated with multiple times, and paid 500-600 baht for each ST encounter there.

It depends. Is it a GSM or CDMA phone? - LG makes different versions for different carriers - for example, if yours is a Verizon phone, it's CDMA, and you can't use it in Thailand, period. If it's a GSM phone, what are the frequency bands that it supports, as not all bands can be used in both the U.S. and Thailand. We really can't deduce anything unless we know what carrier service you use in the U.S., as that is what dictatates the characteristics of a phone bought in the U.S.
As a general rule, phones that are sold through U.S. carriers are NOT compatible with many of the international GSM frequencies. But some are - they are called Quad Band GSM world phones - but unless you specifically sought out such a thing when you acquired your U.S. cell phone, it is highly unlikely that you would have one of these.

If your US phone can't just accept a Thai SIM card, then just buy a real cheap Nokia that does, 2nd hand in MBK centre or similar and by a top up SIM card from DTAC or 12Call. Saves a lot of stuffing around.
I have 3 phones. The Australian one that still works in Thailand, my Thai phone for GF and official business in Thailand, and finally my Monger phone that is switched off when GF around, but used for mongering activities only.
The monger-phone is a really cheap one.
FWIW, I bought a brand new Nokia from the Nokia store at Big C Pattaya a few months ago. I paid B1300. While shopping, I noticed some used phones being sold as new so be careful. The Nokia has no bells and whistles but it works fine. I also used it in Singapore with a Singapore Sim card as well.

I want to recommend a legitimate massage place for those of you who are running low on gas and staying near Soi 33 (read Livingstones). Cefle is an upscale, legit, professional place offering a variety of masssage therapys. I chose the 90 minute oil massage for 600 bhat or about $20 us. Absolutely outstanding service. This place is opposite the "Office Bar and Grill" in an alley just offof Soi 33/2. Tiled floors and walls. First level devoted to foot massage. Second level traditional Thai massage in one open space with clothes on. Fourth level nice individual rooms with their own shower for pre and post massage. This is the kind of place you can hit in your "down" time. I could see doing this each day staying at Livingstones.
